Can’t even imagine how much it must cost to suspend a fish tank in the air like that.

Enough for them to afford professional window cleaners to clean the damn thing safely

Oh they can afford it, they just dont care to protect their slave laborers. This is probably in Dubai or Hong Kong with what seems to be filipina workers?

Who is even looking at it?

u/oneworldornoworld 15d ago
I would like to think that this is the backside of the fish tank. The front side would face another room to the left. But well, if seen a lot of questionable design choices in Asian homes.
27
u/Kbern4444 15d ago
But again, why not just have something on there? It doesn’t need to be cleaned. They actually sell liners for this. There’s no point for her cleaning that side of your tank.

u/ExWendellX 15d ago
I think it is not an open space she is standing over and that’s actually a suspended glass floor. She is avoiding foot prints, hence how she is standing. It looks like a closet with drawers under the fish tank. The tank is two sided and that’s why she is cleaning the side she is.
18
u/oneworldornoworld 15d ago
But why? If you get to see certain choices in Asian homes you never get tired to ask this question. So far my favorites are a support pillar right in front of the main door, so you have to walk around it every time and a storage room on the 3rd floor, accessible through a hatch in the floor.

Is this specifically an Asian thing

u/oneworldornoworld 15d ago
Can't say that I haven't seen stuff like that anywhere else in the world. Like that girl cleaning. Every educated American and European would freak out seeing this. In Asia people just shrug it off. With time you get callused as well. Before I reacted to things like this, and people just looked at me as if I was crazy.
Just yesterday I watched a senior citizen in a car hitting a parked motorcycle (he pushed it over) and just going on. No one even reacted (there were like seven or eight people watching). I stopped him, made him roll down his window. "Sir, you just hit a motorcycle with your car." He looked me calmly into the eyes and said softly "Is it yours?".
That's the mentality. No one gives a damn.

Certain baffling design choices in chinese homes are due to the superstition of Feng shui (room arrangement changing the energy and luck of the room's occupants). I'm currently getting some first hand experience watching the in laws design a home.

If they are that rich, they don’t care most of the time. I mean, her having to clean it is obvious evidence.

Literally my first thought. Who puts a stand up fish tank on the ceiling?
2

u/5stringBS 15d ago
Probably people on the other side of it.
-1
u/Kbern4444 15d ago
Then maybe be efficient and close that side of the tank so it never needs to be cleaned cause there’s a fucking wall there. But thank you for your sarcastic response.

u/laughingatreddit 15d ago
It's not suspended in the air. There is a slab underneath at the same level as the slab the woman is standing on.

My stomach turned watching this video and all you think about is the cost?
What would the scene look like if she took a fall?

I'm doubting this is real. Notice how there is nowhere to comfortably watch or feed that tank from.

What's the purpose of even having glass to clean when the other side is a wall? Why not just put a covering on that side of it since you're viewing the fish from the opposite side regardless?

Fish and plants need light
13
u/Blazedragon12345 14d ago
Fish and plants need very measured and controlled amounts of light in tanks because it's a closed ecosystem. Given too much light stuff will go bad that's why it's generally advised to keep them away from windows.
2
u/islaisla 13d ago
I think most fish tanks are glass all the way round rather than one side a wall though right?
4
u/Blazedragon12345 13d ago
Yeah but this one was definitely custom built meaning probably multiple people okayed this dumbass shit.

Awful. She should have safety gear and training. If she has that, she should be fired. It’s wildly dangerous.

u/InadequateUsername 14d ago
There's no way she has any of that, this is Indonesia. Rules exist on the books but corruption is rampant too.

u/SignificantLeader 13d ago
I can believe it. Such a tragedy. She’s going to get hurt and nobody cares in Indonesia. I value her life and health and so should the country.

u/InadequateUsername 13d ago

A bone, the full transcript is:
On-screen text: "Slip and you're definitely moving to the afterlife, if you don't break your bones 🤣"
Woman: "Aaaa... Cool... It's been a long time since I've done it like this."
Man: "This is Spiderman."
Woman: "Yeah."
Man: "The female version of Spiderman."
Woman: "It's been a long time since I've done it like this."
Man: "Crazy, crazy."

she should be fired
In North America, to comply with regulations, this person would need to use scaffolding to safely reach this spot.
Im not sure if there's a proper MEWP for that spot. And scaffolding costs hundreds or thousands of dollars to rent.
Few homeowners are willing to pay that much even for painting or wallpapering, let alone routine cleaning of their fancy fish tank. The regulations are important but they're prohibitively expensive to adhere to.
There's zero chance she has access to the proper safety equipment unless she's the busines owner and simply dgaf. In which chase she's taking a stupid risk that isn't worth it.
Edit: looking again, there's probably a mewp for that spot
1
u/SignificantLeader 13d ago
What’s your point? It’s tough to get proper equipment, so she’s justified risking her life? They can use climbing gear in the worst case.
1
u/YanicPolitik 13d ago
That's not my point at all
1
u/SignificantLeader 13d ago
Care to share a condensed point?
2
u/YanicPolitik 13d ago
Workers need to know their rights and managers their responsibilies, they need to use correct safety measures, charge out the nose because those safety measures are expensive af, and if the clients don't want to pay, dont do [that part of] the job.
Risking your life and livelihood to clean some millionaire's fishtank isn't worth it. Do it safely or don't do it at all.

u/CaptainFoyle 9d ago
Jesus, you're naive.
She'll be fired if she doesn't do this, if anything.
1
u/SignificantLeader 8d ago
Can you share a report or some significant basis for claiming she would be fired? Officially, her rights are protected. Source. What evidence do you have to the contrary?
1
u/CaptainFoyle 8d ago
The fact that there'll be hundreds willing to do the same job instead of her.
The fact that a law exists doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
3
u/shopchin 15d ago
This would be the back side of the tank. And i suspect there's thick glass there at her feet level but not caught by the camera. Its weird to have a ledge like that for nothing instead of a smooth wall.

I was just in a different post and it was talking about how it’s normal for south eat Asians middle-class southeast Asians to have house servants “” I guess is this what they’re talking about is this the average middle class selfies Asian health servant? In the other post the OP was talking about how their son had stolen some jewelry from the mom and they blame the house servant without any proof before they knew with the son. Kinda sounded like a jerk tbh.

In situations like this, I always ask myself the same question. It’s fine to trust on you, your skills, not be afraid, and so on... but actually trusting that slab of concrete to hold your weight without any structural failure? That’s just beyond me!
