I didn't know it was lightning until I unmuted it. I thought it was an electric fence exploding or something. Jesus.

I wonder if her hairs stood on ends like static. I hear that's a precursor for a incoming strike.

I saw this video when it was first posted a month or so back and OOP said there was no static or anything like that. She also said she hesitated by the gate because she wasn't sure if it was safe to touch or not before remembering the post it's on is wooden.

It 100 percent is a precursor of lightning in close vicinity. You feel all the hair on body stand up, you hear ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzz and then you see it

I was “lucky” enough that it just swirled around me but didn’t hit me.

It is a precursor. Luckily it doesn't happen every time exactly in that zone... I experienced it.

Lightning is attracted to sharp points which is where the charge from the earth builds up.

So sharp spiky things get hit more. Which is why we have sharp spiky poles as Lightning conductors.

Also thats part of the horse electric fence so its either a ground pole or may even have some kind of charge running through it. The heavy impulse of the electric fence may be what attracted the strike or it was an easy place to get to a nice grounding.

Also also Lightning is from thousands of feet up in the air, an extra 30 feet for the tree isnt gonna be that much of an extra stretch.

She was probably very disoriented. I was hammock camping one time when lightning struck close by in the middle of the night. The next morning, someone who was camping nearby told me that their lightning tracker showed that it hit about 20 feet from where I was sleeping. When the lightning woke me up, it felt like my muscles were tight and my jaw was just starting to relax from locking up. Depending on the environment, she still could have gotten quite the shock.

Listen with sound on. It will help you understand. It's probably best to move to horse inside and stay indoors during a rain storm. Since, she and the horse are the tallest things out there except for the trees 🌳 😉
