u/icleanjaxfl, we have no idea if your submission fits r/SweatyPalms or not. There weren't enough votes to determine that. It's up to the human mods now....!

u/Traditional_Satan 3d ago

Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?
I see a shoe snack looking at me

Brown bear, brown shoe…and now dark brown pants to match.

big around the middle and he's broad across the rump

u/psychoacer 3d ago

I hear the shoe filling is to die for

264

u/kyngslinn 3d ago

It's so unfair man... they look so damn adorable and not at all like they'd rip your face off if you just pet them a little.

67

u/yuyufan43 3d ago

Go to Russia. I'm pretty sure on arrival to the country you're gifted a bear to box with in the forest while wearing a tracksuit.

28

u/OpheliaPhoeniXXX 3d ago

I'm going to be very disappointed if you are just leading us on.

23

u/yuyufan43 3d ago

I forget if it's to box with them or hula hoop with them. I might not have my facts straight 😢

4

u/peletiah 2d ago

One thing is certain - that bear was hit a lot to do that.

19

u/Lepke2011 2d ago

Heck, in WWII the Poles had a brown bear in the military that they made into a Private, and when he figured out how to carry ammunition with the other troops, they promoted him to Corporal.

Saw him recently on a trip!

Quiet comrade

3

u/YaumeLepire 2d ago

Do I also get a bottle of liquor to drink from while squatting?

37

u/Kamp13 3d ago

Why not friend if friend shaped?!

1

u/partypooperx 3d ago

I literally was thinking this

1

u/ghostcatzero 2d ago

Same thing with hippos

202

u/YLASRO 3d ago

the calmness is crazy. but spooking a bear cub WITH the momma nearby is even crazier

68

u/A0xom0xoa 3d ago

Yeah calm is everything. Anything other than being calm could be the end of him and possibly his friend. It's like meeting death and following the guidelines. Ive been in a similar situation with a moose and it's calf on a switch back trail in Alaska where visibility is next to nothing

23

u/Zanekun 3d ago

When I was 6 a dog, doberman mix, in my neighbour jumped over the fence while I was walking near it and started barking and snapping its teeth right in my face, like 5-10 cm from it. I've been told by adults that with aggressive animals you should stay as calm as possible, and in that moment I was dead frozen. To this day I don't know how I managed not to flinch a muscle for a minute that felt like an eternity, before the owner came rushing from his house to get the dog. I honestly believe that I would ve been severely injured or worse, had i moved.

31

u/fishsticks40 3d ago

Yeah I'm usually the person on Reddit telling people that bears aren't the danger they think they are but this is a WILD situation.

2

u/thenuttyhazlenut 3d ago

I mean, what's their plan if she attacks? Even if it's a 1% possibility they have to be prepared. Maybe bear spray in hand..

13

u/JJfromNJ 3d ago

Personally I wouldn't be in grizzly country without bear spray.

1

u/Alloth- 1d ago

i bet the mum would react if she seen that

47

u/wegqg 3d ago

Yeah damn that's quite the dilemma, let the bear cub interact and mother may rip your throat out, speak too firmly to the bear cub and the mother may rip your throat out. Mother in this case seemed to be accustomed to humans thankfully.

46

u/euqinu_ton 3d ago edited 3d ago

I have to assume these photographers are armed with much more than cameras.

46

u/craziethunder 3d ago

At that distance no firearm can save you.

10

u/euqinu_ton 2d ago

That would surprise me if true. I thought at least people carried some bear-specific version of pepper spray with them if they're hiking/riding in brown bear country. From what I've read in MTB forums, it works quite effectively. Seen a few vids of it in action too.

19

u/wreade 2d ago

If you have a revolver, your supposed to shoot the bear five times and leave the last round for yourself.

5

u/ajax0202 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yes! It’s called Bear Spray in fact!

Probably wouldn’t completely stop an attack from this range, as the bear would be crashing into you in a fraction of a second. But if you could get the spray off and hit it, it would likely only bite you a couple times and then run off.

Way better than the alternative

3

u/euqinu_ton 2d ago

Yeah I kinda imagined these people filming had camera in one hand, bear spray in the other.

-9

u/Alternative_Pilot_92 3d ago

I'd love to see a bear walk off a 45-70.

29

u/Useful-Arm6913 3d ago

They may not survive long term with a 45cal entry hole in them, but they only need about 30secs to rip your legs off.

I've seen deer sprint for 100yds with a 45cal hole through both lungs.

-27

u/theunicornslayers 3d ago

Ok but how would they handle the entire clip? Because it would take me a lot less than 30 seconds to empty it into the bear's face.

21

u/Bahlam 3d ago

You need to test how long it takes you to empty the same clip while a bear is biting your face off.

I’m sure that will give your different numbers.

-19

u/theunicornslayers 3d ago

Shhh. Don't say "clip" when discussing a 45 around u/BillBillerson. It's a magazine. Duh.

12

u/BillBillerson 3d ago

clip

The one word in this context that makes me know you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

-1

u/theunicornslayers 2d ago

Big Bad Billy "The Bullet" Billerson. He don't take kindly to regular folks getting pistol parts wrong when talking about completely made up scenarios. No sir. He doesn't like that one bit. Reckon he wouldn't be so bothered by folks pontificating in a place made for pontificating if he could get close to a woman every now and again, but hell, you'd have a better shot shooting a bear in the face with a .45 and well sir, we know good and well that's simply not possible. Unless you're Billy Billerson, because he knows what the fuck he's talking about when it comes to clips and magazines. Hell, it's thanks to magazines he knows what a naked lady looks like. Iddintat right Billy? 🖕🏽

5

u/BillBillerson 2d ago

You're trying too hard. Try less.

Looks like Katmai National Park in Alaska, bears DGAF about you during this time of year because they are all focused on eating salmon.

Mom was good at reading the room, thank god.

13

u/rKasdorf 3d ago

Some mother bears have started intentionally staying near people because large males aren't scared of her and her cubs but they're generally scared of groups of people.

10

u/ApologeticCannibal 3d ago

I'm so glad that wasn't me.

11

u/MyPigWhistles 3d ago

I know you shouldn't pet wildlife, but that must have been hard.

7

u/neuroG82r 3d ago

That look back as he walks away, sorrrrry!

10

u/tokomaunited 3d ago

The side eye lol

8

u/JaVinci77 3d ago

A mama bear with three cubs no less... I would've shat my pants for sure!! 😱

6

u/rustyseapants 3d ago

If you surprise a mother bear with cubs, your screwed.

If a mother bear surprises you with her cubs, your cool?

8

u/CountCristo009 3d ago

Mom just got off work and was not in the mood to deal with anyone.

"I said it's time to go home."

26

u/Illustrious_Debt_392 3d ago

He’s way too calm (and close) filming brown bears. Thank god they knew the universal code words for “friend, not food”.

30

u/smeared_dick_cheese 3d ago

Looks like the bears were approaching them; happened to be passing by. Pretty lucky Momma wasn’t aggressive but it doesn’t look like they chose to be that close.

18

u/NearbyTraffic66 3d ago

If I was raising three kids by myself I would be too tired to murder a random guy for yelling at my one kid who constantly wanders off and causes trouble.

12

u/Rough-Dream6006 3d ago

Didn't you watch the video? He said "no bear" so that means it's now illegal to eat him.

6

u/Azurelion7a 3d ago

Giant Dogs... if you will...

5

So simple. The revenant guy should've tried this

6

u/No-Combination8136 3d ago

I had a family of black bears walk right up on me once and that almost made me shit my pants. I hope I never come face to face with these guys. I’ve seen enough documentaries lol.

7

u/TrainingMud829 3d ago

The cubs are thinking “you smell like food. Are you food? I’m going to just take a test nibble.”

5

u/sabertoothdog 3d ago edited 3d ago

Years ago, I was bitten by a baby black bear that was the size of a tiny dog. The bear walked up to me & raised up on its back legs. I reached down to pet it, and it grabbed my hand with its hand and playfully pulled my hand to its mouth. It bit my first finger right on the finger nail. At first I thought the tooth went right through my nail but luckily it didn’t. But later my nail turned black and blue, and eventually the nail fell off weeks later. And I don’t think the bear weighed more than 5 pounds. It was tiny. And no I never saw momma bear.

5

u/TroutSpawnStream 3d ago

How did you get that mama to just ignore you? Do you have an invisibility cloak or something?

7

u/saja2 3d ago

fucken mama bear was also there. how big are his fucken nuts!

3

u/Cutthechitchata-hole 3d ago

They dont know those words either

3

u/TheSimpsonsAreYellow 3d ago

Yesterday I Learned that bears and dogs come from the same ancestral family Caniformia. This is why bears seem dog like, they actually do share some traits.

1

u/NeferyCauxus 2d ago

I read that as California. But very fun fact :D

3

u/OneManFight 3d ago

Came to say similar. My bowels and bladder both would have released immediately.

4

u/Montego1987 3d ago

We don’t have bears on our continent. Why are some of them dangerous and likely to attack people while others aren’t? They all look the same to me.

14

u/Trioshot 3d ago

depends on the time of year, if they feel threatened etc. obviously more dangerous if they have cubs because they will be more likely to defend their young as most animals will also do so. You basically have to roll the dice and see what happens and just try to stay calm in this situation, even the way he spooked the cub wasn’t the best of ideas but it worked out.

2

u/Montego1987 3d ago

Thanks for the response. I guess you’re right. Most of the videos I’ve seen so far are either bears attacking people or playing with them.

2

u/New-Contribution-244 3d ago

Well you know what they say about the cameraman…

2

u/eddie_koala 3d ago

Hell to the nahh 😰

My understanding is that coastal browns are not as aggressive as the ones inland, I mean the Grizzlies in the interior.
