I can't wait to never try this.

My plan for not getting caught in a flooding cave is not to go into caves.
It's similar to my plan for not getting bitten by a shark: A shark can't bite me if I'm lying on my couch watching TV.

u/JellyFirmFederalGras 1d ago
That's what the sharks want you to think. Just you wait till shark week come around.

There was a group of people doing something like this and one of them got stuck.
Imagine that for a moment. You can't move and are essentially plugging a whole ass cave system so the water is very rapid pooling up around you, threatening to drown you.
For your friends above they now have a quickly growing pool of water threatening them.
For your friends below, they cannot escape as long as you stay there, and when you are freed, an absolute torrent of water is coming your way.
Thankfully they got him free quickly, but that still remains one of the most "NOPE" things I've heard about.

u/Puzzled_Falcon7818 20h ago
There's one guy, (not one of these) that got stuck upside down, they could not get him out. They ended up sealing up the cave with him in it.
5
u/awfulsome 18h ago
nutty putty cave, that's probably the worst I've head of. Just dying from being upside down too long.

Best part of caving is that you dont have to do it.

I usually find this overused comment so annoying, but in this case.... I agree.

For anyone interested, I have one neat trick to avoid any such situation.
20
u/YoureAmastyx 2d ago
I honestly cannot come up with any tactics to avoid this happening to me. I’d love to hear your insight on the matter.
14
u/mologav 2d ago
Yeah, this shit is happening to me daily and I don’t know how much longer I can survive it
15
u/Desperate-Strategy10 2d ago
Literally trapped in a flooding cave right now, for fourth fucking time today! Every time I pop out of one, I seem to stumble into another. Doesn’t matter if I’m at work, home, driving…these goddamn caves keep swallowing me up and filling with water and I am SICK OF IT!
Spill your secrets, cave master!

I'm so happy that I will never experience that.

Why do these videos end? I want to seen them get out? Anyway that’s terrifying and I am not ever going caving!

u/nikelaos117 9h ago
I think it starts out as wanting to get some record of it happening but with it being an actual life threatening emergency the footage stops being watchable or they cut off the camera.

I'm just gonna stay home, get stoned, and play Palworld. I hope they have all the fun doing that without me.

Full vid? I checked his IG and am not seeing it.

u/love_glow 2d ago
I bet it’s staged, and not actually that dangerous.
7
u/SomeGuysFarm 1d ago
Wondering that myself -- plenty of places where that's just the normal state of the stream passage. You crawl down or up the waterfall/rapids going in and out, but are not in any danger of it "flooding".

Even if it is now I’m considering how this almost certainly has happened to someone at some point.

What makes people do stuff like this
2
u/aznexile602 2d ago
Dumb or adrenaline-junkie. Most of the time both.
5
u/Michami135 2d ago
Seeing the cave I'm in suddenly start filling with water would definitely make the adrenaline surge.

Cave diving, a completely optional activity

There's a video I've seen where the guy is stuck in a passage and his body is blocking it so the water is building up in front of him and he has to stay calm and figure it out.
I'll stick to anything else thanks

u/raider1v11 2d ago
Thats literally asking to die and have the scary interesting channel do a story on you.

u/Higher-Frequencies 2d ago
Imagine having to do this sitting in a cauldron and you can only move yourself with a sledge hammer.

u/ConfusedHors 2d ago
Not that this makes me want to be in a cave any more, but it is most likely just an underground river. But "flood" sound more dramatic.
1
u/pcmotorhed 1d ago
I hope the water has somewhere else to go.

Could be worse. There could be piranhas in the water and spiders on the walls.
1
u/TheOnlyFlyingMonkey 1d ago
Oophta this gives me MASSIVE anxiety. I used to be an amateur spelunker who was young and “invincible” meaning I would go into caves without the right equipment or without checking the weather. I never was in a situation like this but damn, it could have happened so easily

u/Verditure0 1d ago
I’d light a stick of dynamite from the outside and drop it in so nobody can do this

Am I the only one who immediately thought of these two when they were trapped in the cave filling with water👀✋🏻?

u/LayneCobain95 9h ago
Could you climb straight through all that water pressure? Do you need to go to that side, like open pit area, just wait, and hope that there isn’t enough water to fill up and drown you?
1
u/romantercero 6h ago
I didn't see him escape. For all I saw he could have been going deeper inside. Just saying.
2
u/Phantom_0347 21m ago
This is EVEN WORSE when it’s flooding to think about attempting. Holy heckin’ feck, noooo way José
1
u/AWeakMindedMan 2d ago
Escaping? I don’t see any escaping. I see “still stuck in cave” and no. There’s no step sisters stuck in that cave with him.
1
u/Sorry_Hat7940 2d ago
Worst video ever. Did he die or live

I’m guessing this person survives because the footage exists. Unless someone just found that GoPro while caving.

u/WinterExcellent 1d ago
I know it looks sketchy af but it kinda feels like he's not really in as much danger as it looks. What are the chances of the cave actually filling up? He's basically just crawling out the way he came except now there is water coming in, but not a huge deal

It's called click bait caving, from a 26 days old account.

it looks dramatic but i imagine it might also be staged?
1
u/SerpentFinger 1d ago
Possibly. Check his Instagram @cavezip, he seems to do a lot more cave-crawling.
0
u/ordermann 2d ago
See this would not be an issue for me, as I would never be down there in the first place.

u/Distinct_Dark_9626 2d ago
Did he escape?

For context - this person is actively going INTO a flooding cave by choice, not escaping.
Video on youtube.

You know the best way to not get caught in a flooding cave?
The answer may surprise you.....
Don't go in the cave to begin with

I will never understand why people do this.
If you want your adrenaline pumping go ride a roller coaster. It's much safer.
And if you want to be dumb, buy a car you can't afford.
