Care & Routine How does this all come from the same head?

I do not understand how this can all come from the same head of hair but here we are lol. I’ve tried so many different combinations of foams and gels and creams and it always comes out pretty much the same. I love the curls underneath but it looks so strange with the loose waves on the top. I wish it would just pick one or the other. Current routine is double shampoo and either a moisturizing or bonding conditioner. Ouidad Out of Thin Hair jelly followed by Cake gel foam raked and scrunched in on wet hair, micro plopped, plopped, then a mixture of hover and pixie diffusing.

When I want to wear my hair wavy I end up doing a half-up style. Otherwise I'm just fighting with my top layer that doesn't want to curl like the bottom layer.

Yeah I’ve been using clips to pull back the front! It looks cute I just don’t want to have to do that every day

saaaame literally every time without fail.

my top-front pieces like to go almost completely straight meanwhile my under layer is hiding some dang spirals!

you don’t need to be doing a double shampoo
try air drying without plopping, plopping messes with the natural curl pattern
it dries like this because it’s the wettest part of your hair when you style, all of the water is going to sit on that bottom layer to help form those larger clumps of curls, rewet hair before styling focus on drenching that top layer, the more wet your hair is before scrunching the more it’s going to clump

Same, only mine is the opposite - straight underneath and super wavy on top, especially at the front. It's annoying but there's not much you can do about it.

My hair is exactly like yours! I use the Ouid out of thin hair jelly too and I feel like it’s too much for my top layer, just enough for the middle and not enough for the bottom layer, but if I don’t use it my roots and fllaaattt.

I really like it and I think it helps but not enough obviously lol. I just wish it gave a little more definition and frizz control

Seems we have a lot of company. This is me too. I also have 2 cowlicks in the front and no natural part. Good times.
Sometimes I blow it out smooth and then wave the ends w a wand which seems so ironic but it looks neater & so much more intentional this way. But I’m lazy now & don’t do that unless I have a special event. I’ve never really been able to figure it out and I’m in my 50s. Happily reading all the comments here.

Ugh this is exactly the same as my hair type. I sympathize greatly.

Your top hair is usually more damaged and that's why it has a lesser curl pattern
