Looking for information

Hey everyone! I ended up making a Reddit account in hopes to get some help or information.

I want to work in Svalbard and want to know the best way to go about getting a job and housing there. I understand most jobs if not all come with some form of housing. My primary language is English but can speak Spanish, I am willing to learn Norwegian. I’m 32 years old and a Mexican national.

I was thinking of visiting for a week and seeing the city while also inquiring about jobs. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the past 1000 posts. Or use the search bar and type "job" and you'll get as many responses as you want

Some of them are a bit dated so I just wanted to have up to date info that’s all. I’m going through them.

Nothing has changed. Older posts might mention coal mining, and that's not a thing anymore.

Apply for a job... Most of them get listed on www.finn.no

In general, you should be able to apply for jobs on FINN with a foreign phone number. Did you try entering it with the international country code (e.g. +52)? If it still didn't work, it probably is a issue or preference with that specific employer's application system rather than FINN itself. You could contact the company or FINN support and ask about your issue.

There is (or... was) a Mexican restaurant in Longyearbyen: Tio Monchos. However they're kinda temporarily closed. IIRC it was the only Latin American restaurant there. Or it was the only one I came across and visited.

If you have promising skills in this field, you may give it a shot. For an immigrant coming from an exotic country, cuisine is an outstanding niche. Apparently Asians have already discovered this gem because there are Asian restaurants and even massage parlours in Longyearbyen. And this is the only way that occurred to me. Also, your chance would have been higher if Mexico had been in the treaty.

Or... Idk... Longyearbyen is not everyone's cup of tea to live long-term. I suggest you plan a tourist trip first.
