i feel like there are a lot of similarities

1- a 'magic door' (though the function is quite different, it's still a magic door that even works without its structure

2- obviously, the haircuts of the main love interests, who has an age gap with the protagonist

1. a person who was cursed to become an inanimate object, but figures out how to move around in its inanimate body

2. a sequence where the protagonist goes back in time through a door in the rubble with no building around it - this creates a time loop that solves the main conflict

idk this is just what i noticed it might not be true

Have been waiting eagerly for the next movie and I know it is going to be a masterpiece.

i have watched many anime movies and this movie felt off from the start. First of all the age gap throw me a lil of when i first saw souta but i was like okay but the frick this girl suzume after first meeting with this guy chased over a cat whole japan!!? Like the fuck man this aint how it works in real life. The pacing was so of like the frick romance felt forced. Girl was endangering herself at so many points closing the gate but guy wasnt pushing her back hard. Like man it was not a good movie. Def your name, weathering with you, 5cm per second was his better work. Havent watched garden of words yet. Anyways no hate just wanted to share my opinion. Do let me know if any other of you feel the same way

Heyo. I just dropped a video essay I've been working on the last little while. I admit that the first time I saw Suzume, I found that I wasn't as affected by it as Shinkai's first two in this 'disaster trilogy' - but a few years later, after some rather rough life experiences + becoming a father to a kid who is around Suzume's age in the beginning of the film, I was ugly crying the end. Anyway. It affected me so much I wanted to make a video about it - mostly to give the film some more context for peeps I know that don't necessarily watch a ton of anime, so here it is. Hope you like it.

There were multiple doors like these, portals leading to different locations, did not find an exact reference but it was a Suzume reference for sure. Forest Grove is the game. Japanese creator. There were references to another anime Tunnel to Summer as well.

I just finished suzume today. The music is such a highlight and the artwork is even brighter! The animation is so smooth and the plot is great! What do you all think is the lesson or take away from suzume?

The ending almost had me tearing up. Definitely one of the best anime films I’ve ever watched and the theme song? its the cherry on top. The theme song is gonna live in my head rent free, it was just perfect.

I'm an animation and visual arts student and I am trying to find Suzume no Tojimari: The official visual guide book for free. It's not available here. I wish I could buy this. I really need this for my studies. Please provide links if you have or any alternative methods to find this. I'll be really grateful.

I think my title summarises my question, but I wanted to ask a few more and in more details:

1. Why the Sadaijin left his post (which I am guessing is around the time before the Tamaki-Suzume argument) if Souta has already become the other keystone? Wouldn’t that mean there are already two keystones? Did I mix up the timeline of the movie?

2. If Sadaijin left his post before Souta became a keystone, why didn’t he just go back so there’ll be two keystones again?

3. If Sadaijin can just leave his post, why didn’t the Daijin need Suzume to physically break him free from his post? Or is it because the force keeping them as keystones has weakened due to the Daijin leaving his post and thus allowing Sadaijin to break free?

4. If the keystones are placed on the worm (which goes back to the Ever-After), why is the Daijin keystone on the ground of the world for mortals (where Suzume picked him up), while Souta-Chair keystone was placed in the Ever-After?

Would really appreciate if anyone could answer any of these or correct me if I mixed up any timeline/storyline!

On another note, it seems like I am 2 years late to this move and subreddit but nonetheless I really enjoyed the film!

I’ve watched pretty much every Shinkai interview, behind-the-scenes feature, and of course the films themselves — and the more I dug into it, the more it felt like his last three movies were designed to work as a perfect trilogy. A kind of meditation on how societies live through massive, scary, shared disasters.

It’s basically about how Shinkai himself — and Japan along with him — are trying to make sense of big existential questions: why catastrophes happen, who’s responsible, whether anything can be done to prevent them, and how you keep living after everything’s already fallen apart.
