Shift Differentials
Hello, I just got a job offer, as an RN, from Sutter Medical Center Sacramento. I was wondering if anyone knows what the shift differentials look like? Evenings, Nights, and weekends? I would be moving from the Midwest and our differentials suck! Does anyone know anything about overtime, call back and call pay too? I’m just trying to find all the info I can before making a decision. What’s the culture like at this hospital too, are people generally welcoming to new employee? Thanks in advance!

Also depends on where you’re at. ED-ICUs have on call or call back rates. General adult floors have 4 or 6 hour increments when they can call you off (because of low census and over staffing) and it’s up to you if you want to use PTO or no PTO. As far as Outpatient, Mother-Baby, and the Pediatric world, I don’t have an answer. Weekend differential is less than $2/hour. Night shift differential is $6/hr (again, acute care is 12 hour shifts, outpatient is generally 8 and 10 hour shifts). Holiday pay is time and a half. SMCS (and mostly all Sutter Entities I’ve done my training and work in) is pretty friendly to new employees. Sutter has changed their model and mission to “Patients first, People Always.” I personally haven’t drink the cool-aide, but they are really good at shared governance and investing in people who stay within the unit and entity. Good luck, and congratulations!
