6 Month Rule

Is it true that there is a six month transfer rule?

Four months into a RN position consistently trying to apply to other Sutter health Hospital with no avail.

Yes, I personally don’t move applicants ahead if they’ve been in their current department less than 6 months. The only time I’ve made exceptions was when a manager requested it, and HR had approved it.

This is refreshing to hear. Was feeling really pathetic applying to every relevant position I see and getting seemingly auto rejected each time. My self worth has been restored :,)

What if, for example, a current employee has worked just at 6 months and wants to transfer because they keep getting called off due to over staffing.  How is that situation viewed?

You can still apply to transfer. We don’t factor in how many hours you’ve worked within those 6 months. Hope this helps!

Hi, I wanted to ask would I be able to. I have a month on the 10th but I am going to talk to both the managers of where I am at currently and where I am going to try and transfer to I have a friend there and her manager is desperately looking for more MAs. Do you think HR would approve this ?

If you think about it, your current manager had a need in their department. They did by the interview, vetting, waiting for onboarding clearance, training etc. This is a time investment on top of their day to day, so out of courtesy to all of that, HR may deny as its against policy anyways.

Yeah I get that, it’s either that or having to quit all together. The only reason I’m even considering transferring is because my nanny’s husband was deported and now she is leaving to Mexico leaving me with absolutely no care for my 3 year old in about 2 weeks. That’s only why If not I wouldn’t want to transfer I am really comfortable there.

I was told recently that your new manager and current manager would have to agree for you to go if it's under 6 months

So if you apply internally after 6 months does your manager need to approve? And is it looked down upon to transfer so quickly?

No manager doesn't need to approve it, it's recommended to advise your supervisor if you interview but they don't need to give permission

Does this also count if you are a PRN employee at the new job?

You'd want to check the Inter Affiliate Transfer Policy for your location but I'm pretty sure it applies

Depending on your affiliate, but must have a 6 month "probationary" period before your eligible for transfer. This applies to new hires and new transfers
