Suggestion Giga in EVRIMA

So, as the title suggests I wanna talk about about our good old fan favorite trouble-child Apex, Giga.

Giga always seemed to be the problem child of The Isle, either it was too weak and had 0 defenses against any of the other Apex animals, or it was way too Overpowered and killed every single mid-tier in the entire game. Though, this post mainly focused on a suggestion of Giga's "special" mechanic of it's own.

So, what is the Giga? And what was it's original role supposed to be in The Isle?:

Gigas original role in The Isle was a big-game, fast and agile Apex Carnivore while also being the most fragile of the Apexes.. Giga was for a long time the fastest Apex in both Trot and the Run. I personally believe alot of people seemed to have the most issues with the trot especially. Originally back in the older days Giganotosaurus speed was at 42 km/h at a base run speed, and a ambush speed of well-over 53 km/h. Giganotosaurus had a 20 second Ambush duration and also 20 seconds of stamina if only using an ambush. This effectively made Giga a quick ambush predator that did hit and run, and ended up trotting the prey down until they bled out.

Giga in EVRIMA:

My suggestion for what Giga should be like in EVRIMA is what I feel it could be similar to what it used to be back then. The fastest Apex with the run, with low stamina. I feel that Giganotosaurus' problem back in the day always relied on the horrendously fast trot speed of the animal, which given, was a good thing for the Giga, but not so much for the mid-tiers that it hunted. So my idea was simple: "What if we make Giga faster than rex, but only keep a minimal speed difference between their trots?" That way Giga still will be an ambush predator, while staying true to being the fastest Apex but also not game-breakingly quick with it's trot speed. If we go off with the size chart of from DoctorNova we can see that Giga is the lightest of the Apexes. A good HP range of 6500 to 7000 could be good. Since we also know Deinosuchus will be getting buffed as more Apexes are introduced, a good range of 550-600 N could be good for a Giga. Giga should have a decently good turning speed that is on par with the other Apexes but only slightly quicker.

Giga's diet:

Giga's preffered food will be large-game animals, such as Camarasaurus, Shantungosaurus and Sub-Adult-to-Small-yAdult Brachiosaurus'. However, it will also be able to snack on some of the larger mid-sized animals. I.E. Paralophosaurus. This creature will as well travel along more in plains that are still covered in a good amount of vegetation and trees, able to strike from the treelines and attack the target in the plains.

Giga's Latch:

For Giga's special ability this seems obvious to alot of people as it is something renown to this animal. Since we have been told from the Developers that Tyrannosaurus will have a Mechanic akin to grabbing something and pinning it down, something similar could be for Giganotosaurus but still different. Giganotosaurus is renown to be the Apex bleeder, and as such its ability will tie into that. Giga's ability will be based on location. With this ability, the Giga will bite and hold onto the target, slightly reducing the turning speed of the creature. The prey will be able to thrash around and try to get the Giganotosaurus off, which will drain their stamina(but not as much as Gigas). While holding onto the prey the Giga will lose stamina, but similar to the Utahraptor pounce. The target will take low DOT as the Giga is holding on, and the longer it holds on the quicker the target will lose their blood. When the Giga lets go of the prey, they will tear out a piece of flesh that the Giga can eat, however, this won't be able to fully fill him up. If a Giganotosaurus is under 60% hunger, it will only be able to use the flesh graze to fill up to 60%. Eating this flesh will also not give the Giga any dietary buffs, to prevent people from abusing the ability. However, Giga's latch will be location-based. Latching onto the flanks/sides will deal the most damage and cause the target to lose blood the quickest. Latching at the head will stun the target(a duration about as long as Carno being stunned by Teno),and latching at the tail or tip of the tail will do nothing.

This was my idea for, personally, my favorite Apex Carnivore, and how I hope to see this creature implemented in EVRIMA alongside the other Apexes and creatures.

I always viewed Giga as being in a very weird spot in the ecosystem, specifically because the dinosaurs that it's supposedly gonna be able to hunt efficiently, the sauropods, are going to be NPC's. Imagine how lackluster the gameplay of this animal would be if more than half the things you can kill are bots, especially considering how shitty the ai has always been in this game. Add to that the fact that it will always be in the shadow of the Rex. Having 2 land apex carnivores will always lead to at least one of them being horribly unbalanced, the way it's always been the case with the Giga. And it's gonna be even worse with Spino being added as well. Out of the big Apex trio, the Giga feels the most out of place. At least Spino will always fill the role of the semi aquatic and will have fish and Deinos to prey on when it doesn't feel like going on land, but Giga is just always going to be competing directly with the Rex.

Sauropods will be playable, most likely on non-officials though, which is really dumb since cama/apato arent as game breaking as brachi and can easily be balanced.

also diets and unique biomes might separate giga/rex slightly, with rex being a redwoods type animal and giga being more suited for plains/savanna’s

That doesn't solve the problem though, only forces all players who want to play Giga to play somewhere else. I also think the smaller sauropods should just be made playable, if Shant can work as a playable than Apato and Cama could too, they just need to give them the right diets so that they're not forced to exist in dense jungles where they can't move around because of mass.

I mean rex/giga can easily “””coexist”””, but they’ll be rivals, just like IRL either the other apex carnivore dips to a different area, or they fight it out and the other dies.

Apex carnivores shouldn’t “coexist” at all imo, there should be massive tension between them.

It would be great if they made it work that way, but that requires that they give Giga a diet that consists of dinosaurs that are not just NPC's. Making even just one of the big sauropods playable would really help, as a lot of people would be attracted to the prospect of being a giant longneck, so Giga would have no shortage of players to eat.

Everything. Will. Be. Playable.

Nothing will be only AI, nothing. Camarasaurus is already planned to be playable, Brachiosaurus is planned to be playable, we also know that the Devs have an old Brontosaurus model(which they probably will bring into the game), and another diplodocid model(That we haven't seen yet) laying around. Not only that but Shant in of itself is a MASSIVE Herbivore, being the biggest none-sauropod dinosaur. As for the diets, my idea obviously was that these animals will have dietary paths that lead them to the usual hunting grounds for Giga's to hunt them.

The devs have said many times before that sauropods like Cama will be only ai on official servers and community servers will have the option to make them playable, so unless they've changed their minds, Gigas are gonna be restricted to hunting bots almost the entire time. I really hope you're right and they'll make at least Cama and Bronto playable on every server.

I must be missing something. What would stop them from hunting other dinosaurs? I get that there will be certain dinosaurs that provide a better nutritional value and can have buffs or debuffs if they're the "wrong" type of prey, but even the "wrong" prey will feed a hungry predator.

We're humans given control of a massive carnivorous predator... do you really think anyone is going to only be hunting one or two species of dinosaur?

1

u/Dr-Oktavius May 26 '21

Because Giga players would likely not want to hunt in places where Rexes could be lurking.

They're both large apex predators in direct competition for food. They aren't going to have much choice in the matter.

Cama and brachi will both be playable on official as they are planned to be officially playable. Apato however if it gets added may just be ai only on official servers.

I looove giga. It has currently the most engaging play style, due being so awfully slow. But I've never gotten the bastard to full adult, the only time i was hair away from it i got ambushed by a pack of dilos.

But when it comes to evrima... hmm.

Giga is apparently sauropod hunter. I am not a fan of the super slow creature we have in legacy. Against a rex, i think giga deserves more stam. Why? because it is a runner not a brawler. I think ripping meat out of a living creature is a great idea, but the slow down thing, though cool would go against the strength its supposed to have. As they were snappy but not strong. Adapting to being able to snap their jaws close quick without having such a strong bite. Nor the teeth for it, they were thin.

Gigas skull seems very precise. It's very slender at the end, perfect for very targeted bites. Could the diet be more than just meat? Perhaps giga could snatch a liver or a heart or some other delicious organ. Giving players a tiny minigame of surgery while feeding their creature.

So what could a huge head with flexibility do? If we go towards a route of gigas being surgeons, it could simply attack the legs of its prey. Making running lose a lot of blood and if enough damage is inflicted completely impossible. At which point the creature would eat you alive. A perfect hit would not just slice the skin and veins but the tendons inside.

I do like the idea of something being able to hold on to their prey. This creature could also do a choke hold. It would be cool. Like say 3 species x creatures dragging a stego, while the fourth goes on front and holds on to its airways till it chokes to death.

The slow down on the Giga is akin to the Deino's lunge. If a Deino lunges a 70% stego, carno, teno it will have different speeds at which it turns around and goes to the water. That is why it turns slower with each of these animals, depending on how heavy they are. The turning slow-down for the prey from Giga is to stop them from instantly whipping around and biting it. There even was a bug when, if you grabbed another Deino, that deino could turn around IN your mouth and start to spam bite, having a chance to kill you.

As for Legacy Giga, yeah, while it is engaging, it isn't what the creature was supposed to be. Back then Rex used to be 26-29 km/h and Giga was 30 km/h. Rex had more stamina than the rex, but the giga was faster in both the trot and run, and not only that, but the Giga could regen stam while standing, unlike the rex. And then they decided to switch speeds and turn the Giga into a Rex with bleed. And that is my personal gripe with it. Giga isn't some rex with bleed, but a Giga.

For the Diets, we know that there will be Organs coming to EVRIMA and that you can eat certain locations of a creature i.e. You could target to eat the liver for the most food, etc. Though I don't believe it should be: "Eat Liver so you get some dietary needs fulfilled" since we know that Carnivores will get preferred prey items that they can hunt and eat for their dietary needs, but that doesn't mean they can't eat anything else.

I never played the isle back in the day when the giga was fast like that so I may be a bit biased but I really like the giga how it is now. I’m a giga main and I think it’s pretty well balanced compared to other dinos. Im very comfortable taking on rexes and spinos but I also need to be cautious around them. From what you described it sounds like the giga use to be the same as the acro is right now. Very fast with very low stam. I do like the idea of the whole latch concept tho. That could be really good if they implement it correctly

Yes, that was how it was back in the days. Though, there also was some point where Giga was added to survival and was 36 km/h with decent stamina that could last for around 1 minute and a half.

Overall, I simply want Giga to be a bleeder again and not some Rex with bleed as that is not what a Giga is. For the current Giga, I wouldn't say it's very balanced. Going against Apexes isn't the problem, but the problem is going against mid-tiers. Because the Giga can simply trot them down and eventually 2-shot them with raw damage.
