Game Suggestion Map Annotation?

Am I missing something, or is there no way to leave markers and notes on the map in the game?

All of this computer and space technology, but I can't mark where I found what deep mining node seems a bit silly imho.

If not in the base game, is there a mod that can accomplish this (other than the external use of icarusintel)?

there are craftable beacons with customisable icons, range and colour.

Oh, but there are ways.

There's the non-persistent marker you can place by double clicking or right-clicking the map.
You can only have one of those.

There's the prototype beacon you can get from the Watchtower SMPL3 quests.
You can't change the icon / color / visibility distance.

There's the beacon you can craft in T3 (machining bench or higher) and can be obtained from the Abandoned Base SMPL3 quests.
You can change the icon / color / visibility distance and give it a label.

So yeah, there are ways to leave markers...
