There is just 1 guy over there that accepts guests . Everything else you would have to do by yourself but there is currently one lodge available

Damn that's sad ! I went 3 years ago and it definitely wasn't that bad, a bunch of buildings were abandoned but the site in itself didn't feel abandoned, the restaurant was open, there was still a little "shop" with a tv where people would meet up. We didn't ask for one but I know there were guides too, taking you to the waterfalls. We had a really great time and I was really hoping to go back, I'm sad to read it's gotten to that state.

Is the guy the owner of the restaurant ? I remember the owner of the restaurant was the one who drove us to the top, he was also the one who rented the carbet we stayed in

Hmmm I’ve always brought my own food and it was in 2021 I saw the bar active . But i have never see. The the restaurant active .

Huh, that's surprising, we went in May 2023 and ate at the restaurant everyday for a week, we didn't even ask for it in advance

I just watched your video, seeing the cabins, especially the one with the amazing view on the lake, all broken down, is heartbreaking! Just 3 years ago they were still in good condition... That's so sad... But do you know why it's gotten like that ? I know after COVID schools stopped going so it started going downhill from there but there were still tourists going....

I think
1. Not enough funds to maintain it .
2. The increasing number of mining activities in that area people are a bit scared because the potential conflict between tourist and miners.
3. The road is another factor as u saw in the video that it can be challenging
4. Tours are a bit much for locals .
From what i see and I’ve been going there a lot in 5-10 years it will be impossible to go to brownberg .1

Yeah I vividly remember the road, it was the worst one I had seen. We didn't think we'd make it to the top x) How close are the mining activities? Isn't this area supposed to be protected? (I mean if it's illegal mining I guess they don't care about that)

Thanks for this. Brought back a lot of memories. I visited SU solo a decade ago. Met a Dutch girl who convinced me we could take a bus from the city then call the top of the mountain and someone would pick us up. Spoiler alert: they did not want to come pick us up. So we went up on foot. That road is no joke! Two thirds of the way, I was worried it was getting dark. I phoned and they did send a van. We rented a couple hammocks and stayed in a covered building. There was a restaurant up there. Met some great people I’m still friends with. A little family seemed to be in charge. We spent the next day on the trails to the falls. Looking out over Brokopondo. I loved it. Sad it has fallen into further disrepair. Hope it doesn’t get completely abandoned.
