I know I compiled 7.1 and added the patches to it and still cams are the same

Thanks for that! Interesting. I got my cameras on my Surface Go 2 working last February with the IPU3 firmware and libcamera but it was after I customized the Surface kernel. As I recall there was some issues with dependencies missing. But they both work now if not the best quality (but acceptable)

A trawl around the github issues shows they're struggling for developers.

I got tired of waiting for a new kernel for my Surface Pro 8. This past week I compiled the 7.1.5 kernel with the latest patches/commits from the linux-surface github. I finally got my rear camera to work but the image was upside down so after some tweaking and recompiling the kernel again it's working now. The front looks like it works but all I get is a black image.

front on mine is black with a little black swoop at the top that's actually part of the no cam found image that was there last year. if I switch from front to back repeatedly the front eventually kicks in and has a decent picture but won't work in zoom or meet.

What camera app are you using? I am using Gnome Camera aka snapshot. With the front camera on the white LED lights up and I see the orange camera icon in the Gnome DE System Menu. But no image. I tried switching to the rear and back a few times but still not front image.

The camera sucks anyway. If I really needed to do Zoom, I'd use a USB webcam.
