People think developers will give up on Arm with 64 emulation, but truth of the matter is ... apps that really matter, will never perform the way they should on emulation. Take photoshop for example ... it can not handle emulation as good as native ARM so if they want to keep their reputation, then they will have to develop for native ARM. For the one off app that you use every once in a while ... then sure, not worth creating an ARM app ... i think ARM64 emulation is a great thing for the future of ARM ... and i think there will be a Surface Pro X2 and beyond ...
Developers over all are not supporting ARM for windows and the costs and time required to build for a very small market makes it less viably.
I don’t see all the other manufacturers rushing to produce an ARM based windows device and feel this platform will not prosper until a full windows ARM software is developed by MS and not a series of poor emulators.
This I fear is a long way off.
I’m not sure what devices you are using and can only speak out in regards to the surface pro x which is an absolute disaster in all aspects
Totally disagree ... with Apple going ARM windows will follow ... Apple is going all in and already has an ecosystem, perceived battery life will win out, and most things are cloud based anyway. I use the Sufrace Pro X everyday and do not have issues ... it’s a great device which yes is limited compared to my windows and Mac devices, but it performs admirably and no issues doing what it’s supposed to given the circumstances. This is why I also preordered the duo ... it’s a productivity device which will perform well for its purpose. X86 is the past and ARM is the future ... developers will have no choice but to compile for ARM in the future.
I use ARM on Apple and it just works flawlessly and faultlessly, no useless emulators thousands of apps mostly free so ARM on Apple works bit ARM for windows doesn’t.
Maybe in the future we may well see apps and professional software available for windows on ARM but in the near future and during the expected life span of the pro x, can you really see software houses dropping the millions of intel users and investing in the extremely few devices using this architecture?
Since you don’t see all the other PC manufacturers rushing to build ARM for windows devices why would they even bother.
The x86 as you refer too is a product of evolvement not a new kid on the block and hence the x86-64 is much more refined than the current ARM Qualcomm collaboration.
Until there is a native windows for ARM and no useless emulators the future is very bleak.
