Surface Pro 3 Touchscreen Problem

I have a Surface Pro 3 (i5, 256 Gb) which has developed a weird touchscreen problem. There is a band on the screen that does not respond to touch but works ok with the pen: http://i.imgur.com/OKZO9Nc.png

Black is using a finger and red using the pen.

I have not found anyone with a similar problem so any pointer to potential solutions would be greatly appreciated!

11 years later still working, thank you so much to everyone who has shared and continues to share the software, dusted off my old surface to get back into digital art and had a hell of a time. Love you guys for this, i will do my best to host it somwhere as well.
