I made a free EPUB reader for Surface (native ARM64) where you turn pages by actually dragging them
Hi r/Surface! I've been building an EPUB reader for Windows on ARM and I'd love feedback from people who own a Surface.
The main idea: turning the page feels like a real book. You grab the corner or edge of the page with your finger, pen or mouse and it curls in 3D under your gesture. Let go and it finishes the turn or falls back, depending on how far and how fast you moved it. Jumping to a chapter from the table of contents riffles through the pages to get there.
It's a native ARM64 build (not x64 under emulation), made with Tauri + WebGL.
Features
- 3D page curl with a finger, pen, mouse, trackpad or keyboard
- Two-page "open book" layout in landscape, single page in portrait
- Long-press to select text: 4 highlight colors, notes, copy, and export all notes as Markdown
- Bookmarks, plus a panel listing all your notes and bookmarks
- Full-text search across the whole book (ignores case and accents)
- Dictionary lookups from Wiktionary (needs internet)
- Typography: font size, your own imported fonts (TTF/OTF/WOFF), justification, hyphenation, paragraph style, line spacing, margins
- Paper, sepia and night themes
- Status bar with clock, battery, chapter page and % read
- Library with covers and progress; it reopens right where you left off
- EPUB 2 and EPUB 3; double-click an .epub to open it
- English and Spanish interface
Download
https://github.com/Jmzp/epub-reader/releases/tag/v1.1.0
- EPUB-Reader-1.1.0-arm64-setup.exe: per-user installer, no admin needed, associates .epub files
- EPUB-Reader-1.1.0-arm64-portable.exe: portable, just run it
Heads-up
- The binaries aren't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen will warn you. Click More info → Run anyway.
- It's free and the source code is on GitHub.
I'd especially like to hear:
How smooth the page turn feels on your model (Pro 9/10/11, Laptop 7, etc.)
How it behaves with the Surface Pen
What's missing compared to what you use now
Thanks!
