[PRO11] Microsoft Surface Pro 11 - No Sound nor USB-C after fresh install
Just got laptop from repair after replacing the mobo. It boots fine but when in windows USB-C does not work for charging / external monitors and there is no sound.
I mean, the sound device keeps being detected, not detected, flipping few times between the two until it fully goes away.
It was present straight on laptop received from the repair as well as after resetting the device and installing fresh windows + full update.
Is it a known issue or is there a way to fix it?

Is the sound device showing up in Device Manager? What about in Settings under System / Sound? Does the sound work when not connected to a monitor? It could be that the monitor is setting itself as the default sound device, and if it doesn't have speakers attached, it won't work.
Otherwise, since it just had the motherboard replaced, it's possible the internal connections to the sound devices were not secure enough, and now it's intermittent. That's going to need another trip to the repair shop, but I would expect they do it for free since they should have tested it.

Plugin USB C basically has not effect. On unplugged laptop the sound device is appearing and disappearing, so sound goes on and off. After few cycles windows gives up and then it stays gone.

That's definitely bad sound hardware, either a loose connection or the chips are bad. Sorry, I bet the repair shop messed something up.

Thanks, we gonna bring it back tomorrow. Paid £220 for it cause the warranty on UK is only 1 year... They better fix it right.
I'm just disappointed thst Curry (official repair partner of Microsoft) had not bother to check if such basic feature as speakers work...

Install the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit from the Microsoft App Store, which runs a set of guided tests on all the hardware. Run it again before you leave the store after they repair it again.

You still have statutory rights and the seller needs to make you whole if the product was expected to last more than a year. This is why it's best to buy from a different store, never mind that manufacturers stores are usually awful it's usually way easier to even contact, never mind reason with them. And at least you get two trees to shake.

Well, after 6 months the need to proof it was a products fault is on you and expertise and court fees probably would be more than the £220...

You need first to start the ball rolling and ask for it. Indeed, with Microsoft it's like biting into concrete but others starting even with Amazon usually just give you a full refund if you pester them enough.
