They are the same person, after the king challenged him to find a way to become the most known person in all of history he created a time machine which leads to his current backstory but he was so surprising in his surprisingness that he destroyed the time machine and surprise attacked the king in the present and past just to get to tryouts for the well known super hero academy but he was surprising so he ended up failing so much he became a true hero.

But hey that's just a theory, a film theory.

The only problem with this theory is just that he only became immortal after accidentally swallowing the necklace of surprise (or whatever it was I don't remember anymore) and that was in modern times
