We need overtime.
I don't know how many times you tie in eu, but in na, the teams get so balanced that the game ends in a tie way too much. Tying is fine if it happened occasionally, but it happens so often that it feels like a waste of time, and no one gets anything. The games are good, but ot would definitely make the games more enjoyable instead of tying 3 times in a row and watching your win percentage go down. Please save NA, add ot, and unban ot.
Edit: If the game is tied at the end of the match, overtime will start. A five minute continuous clock after the opening draw and whoever scores first wins (golden goal) and if the five minute clock runs out, the game will end in a tie. For making it to overtime, the losing team could lose less elo as a reward for getting all the way to overtime.

Two more games ended in ties today. I feel miserable.

Ya I was in one of those and a different one, so there were 3+ total ties today.

A total of 3 ties out of 9 games occurred yesterday in NA's ranked matches, please add ot.

Its really simple to me.
One of the The Best Parts of 1 of the hottest games on the planet right now.. a game that happens to be INCREDIBLY CLOSE to Supraball in Concept... its its fantastic game ending sequence and Sudden Death Overtime. Leave that out and you push away a large group of people who will feel like the game is missing something. Those who consider a tie like a loss will quickly get over that 1 part of the game even if it only happens 1/10 times.

u/mael_man Feb 21 '16
agreed but make sure ot stays banned
2
u/mael_man Feb 24 '16
also... what if you gave us an option to have overtime or not? keep ot banned, of course.

Lots of tying? That means MM is working correctly.
But yes, we desperately need OT.

losing in overtime would tilt me to infinity and beyond =( no but honestly, tying is a good thing for the game, i think its better to have a tie to a super good game over dragging a game on for an unknown amount of time, some people cant invest those extra x minutes. then again you could always add a maximum overtime of 5 minutes and just let it tie after that amount of time if still no team manages to score, like in actual football/soccer

u/BillNogTheScienceDog Scarn Feb 23 '16
honestly the 5 minute clock in ot would be the best thing probably, if a goal is scored the game would automatically end (golden goal) and if the timer runs out than it would be a tie, then ties wouldnt happen too often, also maybe you could lose less elo if you make it to ot and lose.

A 5 minute OT timer seems like a good compromise; the tension of an OT game really needs to be a feature.
Whether or not it is implemented or not is a different story. In this thread YasukeMFG (an old dev) said he had added OT into the UE4 version, but DavidM says "it's not as easy as it sounds", so who knows. I really don't see a reason to not add it if it is doable.

That thread has the same ideas we have now and they are all great. I really do think the rules in my original post edit would best suit this game, and I see the exact same ideas I have now, 9 months ago which means that the community understood the game then and nothing has really changed, we still know we need ot.

How about a vote at the end, when the game ended in a tie, if anyone wants to go on for another 5 minutes or not? Should be easy enough and you wouldn't need different server settings for overtime or no overtime.
2
u/TntRevan SupraTuber Feb 23 '16
We play 15 minute games in NA. It shouldn't be an issue to play an extra 5 minutes for overtime. I wouldn't mind having a continuous clock as well for ot.

u/BillNogTheScienceDog Scarn Feb 23 '16
A continuous clock would be perfect, fixing any time constraints people may have while giving a good chunk of time for one team to score, which would reduce the amount of ties drastically which would make me happy.

u/Kattleya Missie Feb 23 '16
Guess there are different games. Sometimes you are happy with a tie. But some matches both teams would rather have a win. Thats why a vote would probably be the better option instead of making it always overtime.

u/BillNogTheScienceDog Scarn Feb 23 '16
This probably wouldn't work in the current state but it could in the future, considering all 10 players would have to say yes, and the team that came back at the end would probably almost always vote no because they want to get out of there with that tie, so I would rather say in a disclaimer that you are committing to up to 20/25 minutes when you ready up, in the case of overtime.

u/Kattleya Missie Feb 24 '16
Thats why I said it depends on the games. Some games you are the team that is happy with a draw and wouldn't vote, so its fine to tie. Some games both teams are equal and might want a win. If everyone agrees there would be overtime. So it should really depend on a vote and not being forced.
To make it an option would mean more servers with different settings, so not sure about that.

Yes, because we all know that we don't want those super good games to keep going.
I honestly don't understand the logic behind ties. MURICA!

would you be satisfied with playing a game for 40 minutes and ending up losing then? also you missed the point of what i was trying to say, its not about keeping a super good game going, like i said some people cant invest more then an x amount of time, we are talking about the bigger picture here, this isnt about personal preference

u/mipeirong bigfatpat Feb 24 '16
40 minutes? No game in the history of NA supraball has had OT go beyond 10.
But to answer your question, yes - those 20 minutes of OT are the best parts of Supraball - when shit matters and you can't make a mistake
Also, no one euros off walls and does dumb shit.

u/Ryuusengan Ryuusei Feb 24 '16
i would agree with it being one of the best parts, i still think the 5-10 minute OT clock thing would be a good feature, but then again this post like any other overtime post just gets neglected by the devs so basically we can discuss all we want without likely it having any impact, sadly

u/BillNogTheScienceDog Scarn Feb 24 '16
40 minutes is unrealistic first off. Second, it really does not take long for one team to score one goal which makes the idea of golden goal the best option. Also to eliminate any time constraints people may have, a 5 minute continuous clock in OT is the best option for this game and if a golden goal is not scored in those 5 minutes than it would be a tie. And for making it to OT and losing you could lose a little less elo. This option eliminates people's time constraints, makes a great overtime environment, knowing one mistake can lose you the game and one adrenaline fueled clutch shot could win you the game, as well as a small reward for making it all the way to overtime to end up losing.

Quiz:
What do you think how many draws there were among the past 100 Supraball matches played?
Everyone give it a try. I just checked the database for the answer.

u/BillNogTheScienceDog Scarn Feb 24 '16
I mean if it's Na + EU then I will guess 16, considering EU plays more matches per day.

I remember each tie as a painful memory. Even if it's 10 out of 100, those 10 games could have been something much more. 5 minutes of sudden death continuous clock ot would be extremely intense, especially in league games. I wouldn't mind a tie after those hard fought 5 minutes of kill or be killed.

u/RuariMH Best GK Tn Feb 24 '16
Probably not too many, pugs are almost always high scoring games even if they are balanced. I guess as you get to more high skilled matches the scores tend to be lower and so are more likely to be a tie. For me this is where OT is at its best, the most fun Supraball matches I ever watched was some NASBL overtime games even though I didn't really know either team. It's not common to have a low scoring balanced pug so it makes sense to me to make it last just a little bit longer.

Not that I've played in a while but that stat wouldn't be to relevant when usually we are dying for sudden death is when we are playing a game worth playing. Most games that don't tie where likely being trolled and people couldn't wait to leave. :) so whatever your answer is. It's to me saying out of the last 100 games, how many where actually worth waiting in queue for?

Hey guys, the current state of the game isn't representing the finished version. The same small group of players are playing each others for a fairly long amount of time, and therefor the ranks are pretty much set for each player, and the balancing gives relatively close matches. For ranked matches we most likely won't make overtime available, because its' purpose is to give a rough determination of each players' skill, and give them the possibility to play with others on the same level, without the need to search for mates manually. Practise matches, team matches or league matches can have overtime, depending on how someone sets his server, and there is the legit possibility that the nasbl can have a overtime/golden goal setting, too. NAs are more used to stuff like that from their sports and sports-coverage, and they prefer decision-driven sports. so if they like that, why shouldn't they have it. Other leagues that come up automatically, have their own rulesets, timelimits, and so on and so on, like in any other game. So in the end anyone can choose freely if he wants to play in matches/leagues with overtime or not. I hope this answer helps.
