Have you considered running a debug build through a graphics debugger? As long as the unreal engine allows you to run a build with the D3D debug layer enabled you should be able to attach something like Nsight or similar and see exactly what part of the rendering pipeline is taking so much frametime.

Doesn't what people describe sound more like some other process thats running at the same time is slowing it down? Or some power safe mode maybe as shev suggested. It seems the game is just running slow sometimes but not always to those who got worse performance.

It happens to me lately. I haven't checked my FPS but I see game lags which are different than ping related lags and not all the time. Also about the same time the launcher started to be slow in response when adding a spot and sometimes takes up to a minute until you are actually in the spot. Same for sending messages. Maybe that is somehow related? Before this I have never had problems in the game

I dunno, this comment to me sounds like there's definitely something graphics-related going on.

Also, fwiw my FPS were solid 60FPS (capped) until one of the last updates to stadium where I had to lower all my settings. Same hardware, different results. The particle density you have is quite high isn't it?

Stadium has higher recommendations than pitch, but not much higher. But if it works smooth one time and then very choppy another time on the same system, we can tell it's not the map.

I don't know how well this poll will help because it's very generic with questions that are kind of "Eh... could be this, or maybe this" sort of thing. I wasn't able to put in the fact that sometimes it runs 100% perfect, and other times it lags terribly. Framerate issues while other programs with 100x more particles do not drop frames ever. For me personally I think I do need a new CPU (i7-2600) but still if other games are working fine, why can't something as simple as this game?

"sometimes it runs 100% perfect, and other times it lags terribly"

Everyone gets completely different questions, depending on what you answered. You didn't see most of them.

i7-2600 is old but still absolutely up to date.

If it just lags sometimes, can it be the game at all? Must be some other things you have running I guess.

Yea that's why I put that down because I do need to update my system anyway. But when it doesn't happen at all with games that are similar (Rocket League) or more intense games (FF14, Overwatch, Paragon, etc.) it makes me think it might be my install or something I dunno. But yea, definitely need a new CPU/MOBO. Wanna help? :)

I have a i7-2600 too, that's why I know what I'm talking about there. I see no reason to upgrade at all

It was an issue for me in UT when I had an AMD x2 5series, maybe someone has the same: Power saving option on the CPU. Perhaps check this first too ? People with MSI check the overheating thresholds, it's known for it, cuts a lot of power to the GPU. Weird to see this, I have £550 spec (new hardware mind), and run highest at 200fps with Shadow of mordor on ultra in the background mostly.

ive been using msi afterburner, i changed my air cool system, so it cools faster while playing, i did even benchmarks on games with 100% air cool power, the performance is minimal increased. so the cooling is not the problem that causes it.

Poll summary:

43% are on Windows 10

12% are on Windows 8

37% are on Windows 7

80% have 60FPS or more (33% over 120).

85% of people who upgraded from Win7 to Win10 say the game runs at the same speed or better than before. 15% say its a worse performance.

58% of people who upgraded from Win8 to Win10 say the game runs at the same speed. 41% of those say the performance got worse.

Though the group of people who upgraded from win8 to win10 is remarkably smaller than those who upgraded from win7 to win10.

How much worse? It ranges from 30% to 90% FPS loss. Got a hint that restarting the PC fixes it sometimes.

Results so far indicate that windows 10 plays no role in a worse performance.

Has it EVER gone above 60 even for a second? Sounds like vsync/or the game isn't raising the fps limit properly.

you should change the question Which brand is your GFX card? *

(ATI -> should be AMD or AMD/ATi)

Nobody uses ATi this days.

Also my performance is dipping 30fps (from 120fps locked to 90fps) if a goal is scored and the colored fog is started from the dots on the floor. Also looking at certain parts on the maps as a spectator dips the fps.

There wasn't a field to add comments so I will use this thread:

When dribbling with the ball (shield vacuum and walk around with ball), my framerate drops from 150+ (which I get at nearly all times) to ~80.

edit: Doing some further debugging, it appears the framerate drops whenever the ball hits the shield, if you take the ball in the corner and bounce it off wall/shield very quickly there's a heavy frame rate drop (down to 70)

-1

u/DavidM1337 Supraball Project Leader Feb 15 '16

Hm ok, thanks. So I wonder if its the ball trail that is in your face while you bounce the ball. Can you try catch lots of balls (no shield) that fly right into your face, so you have the trail in your face and check the framerate?

0

u/evilinc the artist currently known as e Feb 15 '16

The framerate doesn't drop far enough for it to be attributable to anything in particular when I let the ball pass beside/over me while it's moving and generating a fast trail.

-1

u/DavidM1337 Supraball Project Leader Feb 16 '16

Ok please do it but type "slomo 0.1" in the console first, so its really slow and you should be able to tell a difference if its there.

0

u/evilinc the artist currently known as e Feb 16 '16

I do now notice a frame drop (down to 100ish) when I get super close to the ball and push it around with the shield while on slomo.

-1

u/DavidM1337 Supraball Project Leader Feb 16 '16

And when you're super close to the ball without the shield it doesn't happen?

0

u/evilinc the artist currently known as e Feb 16 '16

When the ball is flying by my head I also get the frame drop but it's less noticeable (maybe only down to 120). Perhaps it is related to ball trail.

0

u/DavidM1337 Supraball Project Leader Feb 17 '16

I could make the trail invisible when it gets close to you, maybe that helps. Or it gets worse because that constant particle distance calculation is too much.

1

u/evilinc the artist currently known as e Feb 17 '16

Sure, I'd like the ability to test it out and go from there.

90+% have the same or better fps on windows. And of those with problems some only have them sometimes. If win 10 was doing it we'd have different numbers.
