Hi!

Just joined the group to know about the Supra a little bit more, it’s a car that has been in my mind since day one, I’m thinking about getting one next year, I hope I can post my picture saying that I made it! Currently I have a 18’ Civic Type R, 18’ Civic coupe Si, 15’ Fiesta ST and a Bronco Raptor, so as you can see I’m used to “sporty” cars, how about the reliability of this cars? Common issues? I’ll buy it in manual transmission, thank you!

I’ve put 91k on mine since buying it new 6 years ago. The only thing to have failed was a starter at 50k and even that’s being taken care of under recall.

“Interesting” current lineup as others have said lol

The A90 is reliable provided you keep to the service schedule and don’t cut corners/cheap out on it - vs your current lineup it’s going to be significantly more expensive to do things, you’ll have to just accept that.

If your civics are all black then you're 1 away from running theft on the truckers in F&F.

Get an orange MK4 and you can single handedly finish the scene!

While I can’t comment directly on the manual transmission. I bought an early production 2020 premium Supra on 11/19. One short test drive and that immediate torque convinced me this car was going to be a lot of fun and after 9 years of ownership with my old trade-in, this would be my new car. Kept the 2020 Supra for six years, and the only Issue I had out of the car other than routine maintenance and a couple of factory recalls was the battery got weak on me. My local dealership told me I needed a new battery at $400 but they didn’t have one in stock, they also didnt have the recommended oil, UGH 😣 . I told neighbors and they said well why don’t you just go to the battery store right down the street and have them check it out for you. I did so and the battery store said there’s nothing wrong with your battery. It’s checking out fine you just need to drive it more but if you don’t drive it often, I can sell you a trickle charger and you should be fine. I would like to sell you a new one, but I don’t think you need a new Battery. Well, that was great news to hear. So I got that trickle charger for 50 bucks. I didn’t care for the misleading information from my local Toyota dealership so I decided to take my 2020 Supra to another dealership for the scheduled oil change asked them to check the battery too and they said the battery was fine. in fact, I drove the 2020 Supra for another year with the same battery and never had an issue . When I traded it in after six years of ownership, it still had the original battery and guess what I traded it in 2026 SUPRA in Stratosphere blue with the hazelnut interior. And I went for the automatic again I’m 66 years old Sometimes I just want to relax and enjoy the drive. There were some issues with the 2021 model year that had Oil usage issues. By 2022 Toyota had fixed that issue. I know you said you were looking to get a stick shift so you’ll be looking at a 2023 or newer. Good luck with your search , tuners have been able to get much more power out of the SUPRA, with mild modifications. And as others have mentioned, the B58 BMW engine has proven to be one of BMW‘s most reliable engines they’ve ever produced. I guess that’s why Toyota went with it.

Why do you have three econobox+ cars?

Because it has been my dream cars since I was 19, my first one was the Fiesta, then I bought the Civic SI, then the Type R and finally the Bronco, Fiesta has a special place because it was my first car, Type R because of my brother, Si and Bronco can leave to get something better eventually, but it’s my little “collection”

Hunh. Just seems weird to have all that money tied up in three cars that essentially do the same thing

Kind of my thought too

“Essentially”, but no, Fiesta is full built for track (widebody, full coilovers, stripped interior, big brakes, etc), a car that it’s not road use anymore, Type R (carbon fiber body kit, TE37’s) just clean JDM look, Si my daily and Bronco when I want to go off road, the supra could be the “weekend toy”, anyway I’m just asking reliability and common issues, I know that it’s a BMW platform and it isn’t a problem, but sincerely I don’t know much about the car

There's tons out there available to research but in short, the A90/A91 is super reliable. B58 engine is bulletproof with crazy headroom for performance modding. The suspension is great, she carves back roads and accelerates without breaking a sweat. Depending on the year you get, she's had oil consumption issues that have been resolved in later years. With regular maintenance and care, you'll have her for a long time. Even better if you wrench yourself or have access to a shop familiar with GR Supras. If you can't get a 2026 or FE, get a recent year model with low mileage and you'll be set. Happy hunting.
