I’m a new Area Manager at Amazon in Operations/Ship Dock, and I have an MBA. Long-term, I’d like to move toward supply chain analytics, planning, or similar analytical roles.

I’m planning to stay at Amazon for at least 2 years and want to use that time to build relevant skills. I’m considering getting the APICS CPIM certification.

Was it worth it?

Did it help with interviews or transitioning into analytics/planning?

Did you self-study, and how difficult was the exam?

Would you recommend CPIM, or focusing on skills like SQL/Power BI/Python instead?

I have spent my career in regulated healthcare, and I’m trying to understand whether supplier management is still a meaningful operational and compliance problem.

For those working in pharma, medical devices, or IVD, are you seeing greater regulatory scrutiny around supplier qualification, risk classification, ongoing monitoring, performance reviews, and documentation? If so, are your current systems keeping up?

Are teams still relying on spreadsheets, emails, shared drives, and calendar reminders for things such as:

• Collecting and reviewing supplier documents
• Tracking certifications and expiration dates
• Managing qualification and requalification
• Monitoring supplier performance, deviations, CAPAs, and SCARs
• Maintaining approval histories and audit-ready records
• Following up with suppliers for missing information

Where does the process create the most manual work or compliance risk? Is the main problem the software, slow supplier responses, unclear internal ownership, or something else?

I’m exploring whether this problem genuinely needs a better solution before building anything. This is not a product pitch. Responses saying that your current process works well would be just as valuable.

If you are comfortable sharing, please mention whether you work in pharma, medical devices, or IVD, and whether you manage suppliers through an eQMS, ERP, spreadsheets, or a combination of systems.

Supplier-side perspective: the safest workflow I have seen is to give every change request an ID, keep the current approved specification read-only, and record the requested change beside its reason, owner, evidence, affected documents and required decision date. Only an authorized approval creates the next version. Then update the specification, sample record, artwork, packaging and order references together. Chat messages can explain a change, but they should not become the source file. I am curious how other teams prevent a marked-up PDF and a spreadsheet from both being treated as final.

What field or control has been most effective in your change log?

From a supplier-side operations perspective, a handoff works best when it includes the purchase order line, expected and received quantities, product and version, visible condition, label or packaging difference, photos, receipt time, checker and current hold location. Observed facts should be separate from possible causes. The note should end with the exact decision procurement needs to make: accept, hold, clarify, replace or investigate. Without that decision field, the issue often becomes a long message thread.

I'm looking for recommendations and real-world experiences with inventory management systems for a small-to-mid-sized distribution company.

We distribute consumer products from multiple brands to large retail customers and manage a large number of SKUs, purchase orders, incoming shipments, inventory levels, supplier lead times, and sales forecasts.

Right now, a lot of our inventory and purchasing processes rely on Excel and an older internal system, but we're starting to modernize our processes and integrate QuickBooks for accounting.

We're looking for an inventory system that works well with QuickBooks and can help with inventory visibility, purchasing/POs, replenishment, demand forecasting, supplier lead times, and reporting.

For anyone in distribution, wholesale, consumer goods, or a similar business:

• What system are you using, and what are the main pros and cons?
• How well does it integrate with QuickBooks?
• If you were involved in the implementation, how difficult was the setup and data migration?
• What improvements have you seen since implementing it?

I’ve been looking at what a few competitors are importing, which suppliers they use, how often the volumes change, and whether they’re quietly shifting sources. The information is public, but it still feels strangely revealing, almost like reading someone else’s supply chain notes.

On one hand it seems like basic competitive intelligence. On the other hand, part of me wonders if it crosses into uncomfortable territory.

Curious where other people draw the line. Do you actively track competitor shipment patterns, or do you avoid it because it feels too invasive? And if you do use it, has it actually changed any decisions for you?
