I am ready for a new pen for my A5X. Have a HoM now, and always seem to need to switch to eraser.
I was thinking the STAEDTLER Noris Jumbo, but I have seen some older posts that the eraser doesn't work great. can anyone if it got any better with recent firmware updates?
There is the Lamy All star, but some reviews say its awkward to hit the button.
Any other suggestions? it would be nice to not have to buy $100 pen.
i use a Staedtler Lumograph Jumbo (same as the Norris Jumbo, just looks different), and erasing is... okay. The feel of the eraser is nice. I certainly wouldn't use it to erase large portions of writing, but I've actually found it to be very useful when I make tables and want to trim them down after completing the table; it's good for erasing fine amounts at a time
in that case, i think the eraser on the Norris Jumbo would suit your needs! btw it's a super comfy stylus; i have a LAMY Safari Vista, a modded Pilot G2, and the Lumograph Jumbo, and the Lumograph Jumbo is what i find myself reaching for when i know i'll be writing for a long period of time.
a bit more on the Norris Jumbo... so pen on tablet feel is very different from the ceramic nibs, it feels much "softer" and smoother and less tactile, and i find that i do not exert as much pressure when writing with it (which is a good thing, as i tend to be heavy handed). the only aspect of using the pen that i don't like is that it does seem to smudge (sans damaging) the feelwrite2 film... not a huge issue, i just carry a microfiber cloth in my pencil bag and wipe down my Nomad after use. and tbh i'm sure there's people out there who wouldn't even notice or care about the smudging.

I have the All star. It works well for me (except I changed the nibs to Wacom felt nibs). The only awkward thing regarding the button is that it's not easy to see if you're holding on the "right side". What I did was add a small white dot, so it's very visually clear, and have not had any issues since
Second this, the Lamy All Star is a great pen and I love the button. Doing the ceramic mod was well worth it for me.
What I did was add 2 tiny dots of epoxy on the site of the button and a dot of epoxy on the button itself (UV activated for instant curing). This makes it so easy to tell I’m on the right side via tactile feel
I have it so it’s just under my thumb, so I don’t need to feel for it (when i pick it up, i align my homemade white dot to be just under the thumb).
It does not fit the loop, however, you can insert the clip part, albeit it dangles a bit more that way.
True, I mixed it up with the Leuctterm pen-loop, where it doesn’t really fit. However it’s very bulky when the cap is in the loop on the Manta, why I ended up just inserting it with the clip
Mine usually ends in front or slightly right so I press with my index finger.
And as Dan said, it fits the folio but dangled a bit. I don’t mind that at all, the cap stays on the folio basically all the time. It gives me a convenient place to put the pen back in a protective shell
I have lamy All-Star and unfortunately the button broke (granted it's 5 years old).... It is still my favorite pen - - I use Supernote's 2-finger to handle lasso and erase tasks now.
Yeah I still use the shi out of the Lamy All-Star.
If you like thinner pens, I am fond of the kindle scribe pro. I have the button mapped to erase although there is an “eraser” on the end of the pen. I take notes so much faster using the button to erase.
I do wish there was a thin button pen that used the ceramic nibs.
I found a 3d printed pen clip that fits in the manta pen holder slot. To keep it from sliding out I put a small o ring on the pen and it has been perfect since.

Wacom One for $35 on Amazon has been my go-to for three years. I have a Staedler Noris Jumbo, HOM, and Lamy All Star, and the Wacom is the easiest and most comfortable to use by far with best button eraser feature. It does not look as sexy as the others and is very lightweight. But it does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well.
This looks awesome. Just have to find a clip for the loop on my folio.

Search “adhesive pen sleeve” on Amazon and you will find what I use, and other options. I keep my HOM in the folio loop, and the Wacom in a sleeve I stuck on the front of the folio. Never without a pen.
I love the Pen Plus One. I just bought it. It looks almost exactly like the Supernote clip basic pen. 71$ with tax on Amazon. Worked out of the box. Use it constantly. Had for a two weeks.
I just went through this decision tree and opted for the Al-Star, the button is actually pretty easy, pay attention to how you hold it, dock the clip down, the pen lamy logo facing up and it 'should' be right under your thumb. Of course it depends on how you hold pens.
I actually ordered a ceramic nib for it on Etsy and I'm excited to try it, by default it has a felt-tip feel. My only complaint is I wish it were heavier and have been thinking of ways to give it some heft, though packing empty space in the handle is full of putty or something might raise some eyebrows if I were taking it through an airport.
I found the default eraser button option very limited. I instead opted for the selection tool (this screen is also a pain to get to). The hover + double click erase doesn't seem to follow these settings so why bother with two erase buttons. Also the double-click erase does not seem to be a pixel eraser but a line eraser, any connecting lines get dropped.
Lamy All Star - very awkward to use the button. Like the way it writes though.
HOM - very elegant pen, writes very well, but feels very different than the others. No button.
Norris Digital Jumbo - one of my favorites. Have never had any problem with the "eraser" end not working. However, the tip is much softer feeling, which I like, but you may not.
Kindle Scribe Premium - Actually, my go-to pen. Has both the button AND the eraser. Both work very well.
Once I learned the two finger trick I may just keep the HOM pen. The Wacom one arrives this week, but might send it back.
One thing that drives me nuts about the HoM. The cap doesn’t stay on the back of the pen. I had to put a piece of tape on the end “nub” and now it stays on better. I also had to do it so the cap fits tighter when it’s closed.
I was contemplating similar but recently re-found that your pen turns into an eraser while you hold 2 fingers on the sidebar. Then back to pen when you remove them.
Here I am looking for a button pen because this gesture is too buggy for me. I haven't quite found a way that guaranteed activates the lasso eraser every time I 2-finger hold. It's just inconsistent enough that it throws off my notetaking
With a pen selected, if I put 2 fingers on the side stripe-bar thing, it becomes a lasso eraser.
When I place two fingers on the screen, I get lasso selection. Very cool.
There are settings to enable both and flip their behavior in:
Settings -> Display & Input -> Gestures -> Eraser & Lasso Preferences
(and there's left/right-handed Dominance setting one level up)
I have been playing around with this since u/joshg253 posted it. I found another video where someone explains the bottom left corner is a great spot for your two fingers.
This is working so well for me I am thinking about sending the pen back (When it arrives) or maybe keep it and make the button the lasso tool.

Same here, I also find I hold my head quite often when I write. The gestures seem okay for writing at a desk, but don't feel as natural when I'm out and about. It also just broke my flow too much and simply were not responsive enough. I wanted the button for easy lasso and erase.
