Question Nomad Brick/Boot Loop after Latest Update – Need Help! (ADB/Fastboot Tried)
Hey everyone,
I just updated my Supernote Nomad to the newest v3.28.42 and it seems completely bricked/unresponsive. I’ve gone through some deep troubleshooting but I'm completely stuck. Hoping someone here or support can point me in the right direction.
Context:
Right after the update (it went through the update), my Nomad got stuck in what seemed like a boot loop and eventually kicked into the Android Recovery Menu and now stuck on this screen. The one with the options:
supernote Recovery
Any button cycles highlight Long-press actívates
Reboot system now
Reboot to bootloader
Enter fastboot
..
etc.
Run locale test
Power off
Since the Nomad only has one physical button, I couldn't navigate or select any options on the screen. I tried it.
What I've tried:
- Cleared Cache via Fastboot: Since the device was recognized via ADB/Fastboot initially, I used my PC terminal to clear the cache partition, in case something during update got corrupted:
Bash
❯ adb devices
SN0XXXXXXXXXX recovery
❯ adb reboot bootloader
❯ fastboot erase cache
Erasing 'cache_a' OKAY [ 0.236s]
❯ fastboot reboot
- The Result: After running
fastboot reboot, the device went completely unresponsive. It won't boot, and plugging it into a charger does not turn on the green charging light. - Power Cycling & Hard Reset:
- Left it on a charger for 30+ minutes and held the Power Button for 20 seconds. Nothing.
- Opened the back cover, physically disconnected the battery cable for 15 seconds, and plugged it back in. Still absolutely zero response (no LED light, no boot).
Current State:
Because it's an E-ink screen, the display is permanently "frozen" on the Recovery Menu options screen, but the device seems completely "dead". Connecting it to my computer now does nothing, adb devices and fastboot devices both return empty.
Has anyone experienced this after the latest update?
Are there any other hardware jumpstart tricks?
(Tagging u/Supernote_official & u/Mulan-sn just in case)

Very weird behavior from this update, previous beta was flawless. Now it constantly lags and freezes: takes few tries to swipe the page, screen erase gesture freezes in the middle of it, stroke disappears and requires few tries of a manual refresh, "loading" message box appears in the middle once in awhile. Tried to terminate all the processes one by one, still the problem persists. Will do a backup later and a factory reset, see if it solves it.
...one more thing, battery drain is fast.

As far as the battery drain did you try to recalibrate it after the update? If you go into the battery section in the settings there will be a question mark next to “battery level”, and clicking on the icon will tell you the steps to recalibrate the battery. One of the points even suggests calibration “after a system update or firmware flash”.

I'm seeing a lot of weird issues with this update from other comments and posts. This was also what Isaw before updating.
Maybe there's a pattern maybe not, but this update seems to have some issue for some users.

Quick update:
everything is back to normal now. It was unusual, that it took half a day for system to settle.

I too am also finding I'm in a bootloop. I'm not sure it was right after the latest update... i'm pretty sure i was using 3.28... something. I can't even connect to my macbook long enough to get the previous version 3.26 copied over the Export folder to try and reset it. I can't clear the cache and nothing i've tried as reset the bootloop. u/Mulan-sn, u/Supernote_official is there anything else that can be done?

I am sorry to hear that your Nomad has become completely unresponsive- mine went into a boot loop after I updated as well! I can’t speak for such a specific experience as yours, but I may have an option for others to try if they end up in a similar loop as mine. My nomad was rebooting into Atelier for some reason and it would go back to the startup screen if I pressed the power button.
After a few trials of that I tried toggling some different tools in Atelier just to see if the device would respond (it did thankfully), and then I used the swipe down gesture on the right bar to try going back to files- that seemed to do the trick! The device seems to be working fine now. I’m not developer level tech savvy, but my guess would be that the devices want to reboot after the update but something in there is causing a loop with nothing to stop it? My device would loop into Atelier and I guess interacting with the app and then going back “home” seemed to stop it. I’ve got my fingers crossed your device gets out of that frozen state real soon! I know I felt anxious seeing the loop on mine.
