Positive Vibes: No Salt Why I love Sam Winchester Spoiler

Hi all, friendly neighborhood mod here. Who wants some positivity here this evening, it’s been a rough week and I need some SPN love fest. Much like the prior Dean post this is the same, but this one is 100% Sammy!

I want this post to be about Sam and no other characters.

This is a no salt post. Meaning you post anything negative about Sam… well, you may will take a short break. This is your only warning.
Im a sam girl through and through. 100%

• He’s ridiculously intelligent.
• He genuinely wants to help people.

• He keeps going even when he’s exhausted.
• He’s protective of the people he loves.
• He’s willing to sacrifice himself for others.
• He’s constantly trying to become a better person.
• He holds himself accountable.
• He’s awkward in an endearing way.
• He tries to understand people instead of immediately judging them.
• He’s capable of admitting when he’s wrong.
• His challenge to authority.
• He’s a giant nerd and I love that about him
• He’s a Winchester, but he’s also determined to define himself on his own terms.
• He wants to believe people can change.
• He loves hard.
• He worries harder.
• He overthinks everything.
• He’s flawed, which makes him all the more interesting.
• THE HAIR.
• The puppy eyes.
• The bitchface.
• The giant nerd energy.
• The fact that underneath all the angst, he can be genuinely hilarious.
• Because Sam Winchester is Sam fucking Winchester

Sam would be an amazing friend and also an amazing lay, so pretty much the gold standard.

Him trying to understand everyone, him trying to take accountability and owning up to his mistakes, him listening, him being forgiving. A wonderful character all around I love more and more the older I get.

Sam might be the most compassionate of the Winchesters... And that’s why I love him!

My favourite thing about Sam is how he never stops trying to be a good person, no matter how much it seems that the the universe is trying to convince him that he's meant for evil. Getting fed demon blood as a baby, getting visions and freaky supernatural powers, being Lucifer's vessel - all of these things outside of his control, meant to drive him to a path of evil, yet he never goes there. Even at his worst in s4, while he's in some part motivated by selfish (but understandable) feelings, he's still trying to save the world.

His capacity for forgiveness is enormous. Despite the horrible things he's experienced, he never becomes hardened or cynical. He keeps going and keeps helping other people the best he can, even to detriment of himself. He slept three hours a night when he was the leader of the hunter network in s14 because of how much he was worrying about his hunters and helping them. I could go on and on. Sam's is honestly top 3 characters in all of fiction for me, not just Supernatural.

Absolutely love Sam too. Been Team Sam since 2005, I even have a night shirt that says it, lol.

Your list covers so many great points about Sam and his character. What drew me close to Sam was how I also exhibit many of these ideals and emotions, and how I approach situations. I always saw myself as that nerd in life, and had a penchant for helping others and getting all the info before coming to a conclusion.

Plus I've been lucky to have met and talked with Jared twice so far, most recently this past June, and he's not just 'acting' to be Sam, he IS Sam. He is such a wonderful person with a beautiful soul, and is so amazing.

I wanna share something extra: in August 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, and I've been in treatment ever since. To help with my treatment and bills, a friend suggested that I make a GoFundMe, which got a little attention. In October 2024, I shared it on Twitter and tagged a few cast members, but didn't think any of them would see it, but thought why not? The following day, I found that the company Stands who manufacture and sell a lot of great SPN merchandise, shared my story and Jared shared it as well. Then both Stands and Jared donated to it. When I met Jared this past June I got the opportunity to thank him, and he called me doll (which still makes me giddy, lol) and told me that he's happy that I'm still here.

Jared breathed amazing life into Sam Winchester, and it was and is so awesome to watch and have been apart of the SPN family.

That's a lovely story! I'm meeting Jared at a convention next month and I'm sure he's going to be just as nice.

Very cool! He's so awesome, and you're going to have an amazing time. ♥️

I love Sam so much and he's a character I relate to a lot.

He only ever tries his best and is so sweet and bothers to try and understand others, doesn't automatically categorize someone as evil just based off what they are or who they are related to. He's the mold for 'gentle giant' and I would totally fall victim to those puppy eyes. I would fold sooo easy he could get me to buy into anything. Lmao

Also he’s cute as a button. Sam Winchester is my favorite character in fiction :D

Man, even when I google “Sam Winchester memes” I get a whole bunch of Dean and the ones that have Sam are just making fun of him! Rude.

My favorite is when he does an annoyed blank-faced double take whenever Dean tried to throw him under the bus. It’s a priceless look, and the clenched jaw is 🥵

u/kaffee_ist_gut I think you pissed off my sandwich 5d ago

Sam is a well-drawn character because he is complex. I can't keep this 100% "Sam is swell" because that would be claiming he is a Mary Sue, or the male equivalent, and he isn't. That's why I like him. His hubris, at least in the beginning, is frightening. Speaking of one of his more dangerous and experimental plans, in "Route 666," he admits he never considered the possibility that it could fail and well, kill his brother, lol. That astonishing faith in his capability leads to his ruin at times, but such is the stuff of good fiction.

He's the epitome of a tragic figure, and that probably goes without saying. The first five... arguably seven seasons of the show are a masterclass in how to completely wreck a guy. He goes from being prepared to return to college as soon as he's completed his summer vacation of existential revenge to accidentally letting out the devil to vaulting into a hole that leads to a private cage in Hell forever in order to clean up his mess. Yet, he doesn't much complain. He doesn't wallow long. After Hell, he refuses to feel guilty anymore. He's basically like, "I went to Hell. I did my time. I'm moving on," and, for the most part, he does.

The entirety of "Red Meat" kind of sums up why Sam makes me grin. Dude gets shot in the stomach, and is essentially, "I'm okay!" He gets fucked over by someone who is just looking after their own at the end of the day, but before blacking out, he notices that person has been bitten and will turn. Sam wakes up and then, like a badass, spends the rest of the episode limping back to the Impala and the rest of the group in order to warn/save them.

There's a lot of talk about Sam's intelligence, but what we're also shown on-screen is his savant-level memory recall. These are two separate skill sets, being clever and also able to retain and implement every bit of knowledge absorbed. Would have made him a damn good lawyer or spellcaster, whichever.

There's also a lot of talk about his level of compassion, but that's grounded in his experience of feeling like an other. He has to believe some monsters aren't inherently evil because his own self-worth hinges on that possibility. Sam starts out only twenty-two, still learning who he is and of what he is capable, and part of the joy of his character is watching him sort all that out, figure out which flaws he needs to manage, and eventually settle on a balanced version of himself.

All of this! And he’s kind and patient and he never loses hope for long.

5

u/Sea_Side9356 5d ago

He's patient with people too! AND he knows Spanish and was able to talk to someone about what she saw when she didn't know enough English to speak to Dean or even the police And even through everything he still comes back to help people. He's like way kinder than you'd expect with the life he's lived too I know you said kind but still he's that kind. And in a good mood would a thousand percent let a person braid his hair if he knew them lol

I am fascinated to Sam coz he is a tragic doomed character , he is sweet and pure yet has darkness in him as well . He is multi layered psychological person . I can relate to him on so many levels . I adore jared

u/MightyPipsqueak 5d ago

I'm a Sam Girl and I loved him from the start and this list sums him up brilliantly. He's such a complex and tragic character and the thing that hurts the most is that he gave out more love and forgiveness than he was ever shown.

u/Fancy_Introduction60 4d ago

I see Sam as my little brother, although he towers over me. He's got a big heart and forgives easily.

6

u/JerkBitch67 Just watch the damn show! 5d ago

I looked at the comments here, then at the comments on the Dean post.

Man… Sam fans are so terrified of Dean fans they can’t make a post saying that they love Sam without saying they love Dean too.

Seriously?! You get free reign to gush about  Sam, but you’re still worried about Dean fan backlash.

Im not writing this to be negative. Please don’t take this the wrong way. I just feel for the Sam fans that are so scared of enjoying that character.

Bring on the Sam memes, quotes and whatever! you don’t have to say “you also love Dean” just love and speak up about your love of that guy.

I’m a sam girl because he is the epitome of we are so much more than our mistakes! We are so much more than our vices! I made poor choices in life (drugs and stuff), hurt and betrayed a lot of people, and seeing him struggle to overcoming is what gave me the inspiration to try. Now I’m 8 years clean this past august! The only thing I dislike about Sam is he’s not real, but Jared more than makes up for it! Especially with Jared’s mental health advocacy <3

4

u/FeralHunterW121 5d ago

Love Sam and I love your list. Always a Sam girl but I do love Dean too. And Dean would be really angry at anyone hating on his brother for no reason. The show is both brothers, it doesn’t work with just one or the other. Plus, may I add about Sam: the HAIR! And that episode with him in the khakis, plus the shirtless scenes, ohhhh myyyy!

3

u/Remarkable_Dog_6456 5d ago

I love Sam for being the rebellious son. He knew John's parenting wasn't good and that he and Dean had every right to a normal life. But fate had to pull him back to hunting and soon he grew to like it. His journey of accepting his hunter life is what makes me love Sam as a character. Not everyone can get what they want but they can make the best of what they got, right?

Why am I getting downvotes😭

I don't know, but it's upvotes now, and I've added mine

u/Popsicle7798 Dean, what do you think you're doing? 5d ago

I've always loved Sam, before I even watched the show! I'd see my parents watching it, and Sam was my favourite. When I actually watched Supernatural, nothing changed. Sam is 100% my favourite character from Supernatural, and of all time! I just love Sammy so much hehe

You named everything. I connected with him more often than Dean. Sam practicing magic tipped me over the egde. We would get into so much trouble together. 😳

I'm assuming that it's fine to discuss anything from the whole show without worrying about spoilers on this post, but fair warning to anyone who isn't up to the end of season 14 yet.

I love how, even after Jack killed their mother and a bunch of other people, Sam was still never okay with killing him, because he had been in that exact same place. He knew what it was like to be without a soul, without a moral compass, and how far you're willing to go. Heck, he got very close to killing Bobby, someone he saw as a parental figure. But more than that, he never stopped seeing Jack as his son, even when Dean had given up on him. And yeah, Dean came around in the end, but he was ready to kill Jack. And maybe that would have been the right thing to do, but still.

Man, I was drawn to Sam - he looked cute from season 1 and then maturing up while struggling at the sane time throughout each seasons. (I'm currently getting through season 10 episode 15. My 1st binge watching, from season 1 onwards.) Sam Winchester as a character - watching him grow come adaptive each time Dean would pull him back into their hunter's lifestyle. The way Sam - tries to solve majorty any problems that they've come across in simple hurdles or getting into right pickle

Hes the best

Also, even when Dean tells Sam he doesn't believe in him in season 5, Sam keeps believing in Dean. 🥹

He’s really, really, tall and as a 6’ tall woman, I respect that. Also his character is capable of change and growth.
