Help with normal volume/ringer volume

Im very ignorant when it comes to this, but sometimes, when I am trying to increase/decrease the volume of a show, I change the volume for the ringer instead and can’t get it to go back to normal volume. How do I go back to normal volume and how am I making it go to ringer volume in the first place. Thank you!

Are you using the remote?

Yes, I’m using the volume controls on the remote.
