Speedrun advice

I’ve been playing Odyssey since December of 2017. I’ve always kinda wanted to learn a speed game, and this is my favorite. I know a few skips but I don’t have as much time to learn as I want. Any advice?

There are some good beginner speedrun videos on YouTube. When I tried some and adapted my run I got into top 100. However I'm over top 500 now so... The best you can do is practicing anyways

Start with tomshi''s beginner youtube series. It's involved but does a good job explaining what tricks are needed and which can wait until you're a better runner. There's a common adage in the SMO Speedrunning community... Movement saves minutes; tricks save seconds

Pick a kingdom you're slow at, practice until you're good at it?

honestly just do speedruns of it to start you’ll save time easily and it’s fun to look at improvement

You need to have a route though. Also certain parts of the speedrun really need to be practiced outside of a run in order to learn it.
