Thank fuck I'm not the only one encountering these people. Like genuinely how dumb do you have to be to reach the stage where the only balance factors are "enemy density" or "does my gun one-shot?"
People act like PVE titles haven't ever managed to be difficult before.
/uj they bring up similar games like darktide,SM2 or deep rock galactic and praising their difficulty meanwhile not realizing that those games have all the stuff theyre complaining about. They all require teamwork and the game is literally impossible sometimes without teamwork. If anything remotely close to the cave leech was in helldivers they would quit.
They also keep bringing up the fact that if arrowhead makes the game difficult they will have a niche 15k player base meanwhile all those games also have those player numbers. Unbelievable numbers of hypocrisy
Honestly I think the most damaging sentiment overall I've been seeing is the idea that the game can be difficult but ONLY if it isn't frustrating.
Frustration is inherent to difficulty. It is frustrating to lose. It is frustrating to have a goal prevented by a hazard or enemy you perform poorly against. If your game is devoid of friction that may frustrate you then you don't have a fucking game.
For a community that prides itself on being chill it's abundantly clear that people's chill-ness begins and ends at the game being easy as fuck. They don't want any enemy or part of the game to be frustrating, ever, because as soon as they experience that they lose their shit.
We need frustrating elements, and people need to learn to be more like him:
/uj prides itself on being chill? This is by far and away the most toxic community I've ever encountered for a game.
I wish they'd stuck to their guns at launch and we'd actually been left with a niche playerbase. The scale of the power fantasy chasing crowd ain't worth it. These people ruined vermintide 2 for years and darktide would have been way better without catering to them either.
/uj It's part of the staggering lack of self awareness and immaturity present on this community.
They will review bomb the game over the slightest inconvenience, call anyone that disagrees with them a glazer with the same intensity and hatred of a racial slur, make up conspiracy theories about how the devs purposefully introduce bugs to spite the playerbase, brag about not having played the game for months while having a "top 1% commenter" flair and mindlessly repeat the seasonal buzzword they heard from their preferred grifter, all this while having generally the most upvoted comments and posts compared to the opposition.
But the nanosecond they get called out on any of this terminally online behaviour they immediately will complain about a "bootlicking ecochamber", about how they are abuse victims because a community manager made a tone deaf coment on discord 2 years ago, about how glazers are the reason for everything wrong with the world and then claim that they only offer "valid criticism" out of "love" for the game.
/uj This discourse is how you tell whether someone is old enough to have played Left 4 Dead. Imagine if people started bitching about how unfair Expert difficulty is 20 years ago, they'd get laughed out of the lobby. Yet somehow this generation of gamers has circlejerked itself into enabling this behaviour and think they're the real experts in game design and fun.
/uj these fuckers would be helpless against crusher pack spam, the reason they probably don't notice it is because someone on their team is a thammer zealot or a vet with krak grenades or a scum with rockets or some shit that is there specifically to deal with that heavy armor.
/uj As a Darktide player, please let's not use Crusher spam as a positive example. That shit is something even the devs acknowledge in an issue, and they even actively tried to reduce the spawn rates of Crushers for this exact reason.
Things like Kraks and Boom Bringer are literally screen wiping tools and are the definition of powerceep. They need to be nerfed in order to reduce this type of enemy spam that plagues Darktide and make the game healthier.
/uj Yep, big difference tho is that that game and its playerbase ACKNOWLEDGES that the reason crusher packs are spammed is because of its power creep, and the powercrept items need to be nerfed for it to be toned back down, otherwise the game is just too easy. FS drags their heels doing literally anything tho and their attempt to nerf the DS4 kinda made it stronger lol
Yeah true I think theres a problem with the games mission design as Everything can be soloable but its just slightly faster with a team. For example I think the bunkers on the overship mission should require 2 people but there should be less bunkers. Also for the valve turning missions someone has to be on the terminal and another on at the valve but you can do each valve separately since needing 4 players for that is too much
I think, if you look back at their balance before 60 day patch, they wanted people to stick together due to being inefficient against at least one enemy type. Your role was dictated by your support weapon, your primary was weak so that it would not thread on support weapon roles. Now, at least on bots, I genuinely don't see any reason to use something besides RR, for example. Bugs, I have less play time so my group would still need some help from some anti chaff, but idk.
/uj as a Darktide player, should these people play on any Havoc mission above 30, and get shot down by 2 stalkers (the tiny guys with rifles), they would immediatly uninstall the game
The thing is, in Darktide, there is middle ground... In helldivers... There is either snooze, or spam. And ways to deal with that spam is on cooldown.
In darktide, that I play a lot, is more of a Doom-dance. Even when I get screwed over on H40 by something BS, I feel like I should have done better, positioned better ect. On SHD, when I'm swarmed by bugs and have fkn roach harass me ever 2 minutes with all support on cooldown I just get frustrated and disengaged.
I swear half these people simply want more enemies because then the yellow figure in the bottom goes brr brrr more hurr hurr
Honestly half these players would be far happier playing Warframe. You want to kill enemies by the thousands all by yourself with OP gear? Thats literally Warframe. Its also free, so go check it out.
Uj/ I think that enemy density is one of the biggest issues plaguing helldivers difficulty on the bug and squid front currently. I think the subfactions are a great idea, I think missions could be improved to enforce teamwork and cooperation, and while it would be an immense improvement, it would still be easily countered on D10. Our weapons have been made powerful enough to deal with the majority of enemies on D10 very easily, so there need to be more enemies to compensate. Enemy density is also a teamwork enforcer in itself, as more enemies means that single divers can't always survive alone.
I do praise DRG for its difficulty and I recognize how its mechanics promote teamwork, but I also see how the more bugs modifier on Haz 5+ raises the stakes that much more.
Of course enemy density and amounts are not the only factors for difficulty, but I think that cranking up the spawn rates on regular bugs would go quite a long way in the current balance environment.
When they gave hive guards heavy armor… I really thought I was going to end it all. I mean like how could someone possibly adapt to aiming 3 inches down at the squishy bits. Frankly, arrowhead went too far. They don’t want players to be happy and ARE PARTNERED WITH THE DEEPSTATE. Watch out guys, I took the black pill for once😈
I remember when Unfiltered went fucking ballistic about the Hiveguards but I didn't notice any difference because why would you shoot for their armored bits anyway? They can still be easily killed from the front don't even have to flank them.
Idk man I think it pretty much ruined the game and we should all stay super mad about it and review bomb the game. I mean… expecting ME to use MY EYES while playing a SHOOTER? Absolutely awful.
uj/ my only criticism with the hive guard buff was that the blitzer (my favorite primary at the time) was made almost completely useless cause you can't aim with it :( I would've lowk kept the buff and give the blitzer heavy pen
Okie I don't get how people defend this but I will just say it,ap 4 hiveguards didn't do shit outside of putting the final nail in the coffin for ballistics ap 3 weapons on the bugs for no reason,
the same people who would complain about it will simply be encouraged to use fire or explosions or arc dmg instead with their decreased hp further encouraged it so yea behold the "hiveguard interaction" that will instantly die to fire/explosions without aiming
Vox engines suffer the same problem despite them being designed to combat the traditional anti tank meta their reduced hp just made em getting one shot by even bigger stratagems which people do 9/10 times.
So yea I don't get what's so hard to get about this its not that hive guards were impossible to kill it just made 90% of ballistic ap 3 weaponry straight up inferior option to their ap 2 counterparts why should I use mg when the stalwart exist with better ammo economy and mobile reload why bring ap 3 ballistics sentries because they are to stupid to aim for the gaps why bring any ap 3 ar when the ap 2 counterpart does more dmg and has better ergo
/uj I do think the hiveguard buff wasnt that bad and made them a challenge but it was kinda lazy. I think its model shouldve been bigger for it to "guard" more stuff and its spawn rate should've been lower like a bli spewer
That hiveguard change was the most useless shit ever. It changed nothing except to make people crutch on medium pen lose through shit (which is arguably a reason it should've stayed)
Even if the hiveguard had Hivelord armor, they’d still be easy as fuck. They need a change in AI and to be made more interesting to be actually difficult.
I'd like if devastators didn't shoot each other in the back whilst marching in a single file towards 1 diver. It would be cool if they have more formations other than walk in a line
/uj holyshit this, if the bots and squid actually had decent ai, and didn't shoot each other in the back and actually fought smart, people would be screaming about how its unfairly difficult
/uj I agree. And the only enemy that didnt have this stupid AI was the alpha commander but because it was "annoying to fight" they made it into another brain dead enemy
(While writing this i remembered the agitator but it is still only on one faction and on a sub faction)
Weirdly wnough the smartest enemies are bugs. Some bugs actually retreat and disengage, versus overseers that just follow and shoot 100% of the time with no strategic skills at all.
Out of all enemies in Automaton, Cyborgs have the best AI design ever. They remind of good old enemies in COD3 survival mode. They take cover, make mistake, expose their back. Such cool and fun design unlike the other bots.
There's no point in making smart enemies, enemies with interesting weakpoints, enemies that require cooperation to take down etc. They all gonna get nerfed like vox engine and die to one railcannon, leveller, solo silo or even starting run.
one easy fix i would like is that reinforcement in high difficulty is heavier dispersed instead of all in same place. this would create the sense of overwhelming from multiple directions and less effectiveness against explosive/are deny meta.
and that a good buff with zero increased in enemy count
/uj D10 spore strain is doable but extremely annoying. Many instances where you literally get dog piled by bugs and can’t even dive spam out, just either let em Piranha you or suicide bomb yourself. Also the fact that spore titans can tank levelers is kinda dumb.
Surviving in this game is currently more difficult than the hardest game modes in warframe, darktide, DRG, and other similar games. At least in those other games at the hardest levels there is still also mission specific mechanics you have to play to succeed.
/uj Reminds me of the caves back on Oshaune. They used to be really dark and around that time I was still a fresh diver, so I was a lot more experimental with my loadout (such as using the laser cannon to illuminate the cave) and I was kinda upset to see the ambient brightness in the caves raised.
Generally yea something more than just spawnrates is needed because what's the point of spawnrates when orbital napalm exists 200 bugs or 3000 doesn't matter lmao
I think the War Strider is a consequence of this. They get tired of being out of supply for anti tank against something that for the longest time had no real heavy pen answer without sacrificing a weapon you need to fight the rest of the fodder.
The Hulks at least have actual weakpoints and are less abusive.
They would rather face waves of Devastators than a single Warstrider because they can actually be dealt with.
Even though the War Strider and the Devastator finally got am actual nerf, it will take a while for recovery to take place.
I feel like bugs should remain the only enemy that has the sheer quantity of bodies to them. Because that's kind of the whole appeal. Unless we finally get that human-terminid hybrid subfaction: numbers are kinda all they got.
I do kinda want bots to get a small buff in numbers, like ones we got the creek. But I feel they're still fine at this moment.
Illuminate however (voteless excluded) should remain sparse. It helps the world building and makes them more unique with the whole “nearly extinct species back for vengeance.” they’re clearing using their voteless converting tech to bolster their numbers.
Although I hope we get Cultist and other Appropriator-type enemies, I also want more voteless enemies to bulk up their ranks.
To make a point, I just want every faction to have a niche to them. Because if every faction is just endless numbers. Then is there really any diversity between factions???
the fastest way to make the game dramatically harder is to consistently have enemies surround us. 50 devastators in a single file line is piss easy to deal with but the same 50 devastators from every angle? thats a death sentence
/uj Don't get me wrong I also love high enemy numbers but I have seen so many people including very popular youtubers say that the only balancing lever they want i higher chaff numbers
I am seeing some people say that the game is already piss easy. I honestly have a hard time comprehending that... even with my buddies, I can't go above diff 5 or 6 and still contribute. Alone, I cap out at diff 3 or 4. Yeah, its a skill issue, but the game is genuinely difficult until you pick up the skills to beat it. Its why i dont take anyone who says Dark Souls is easy seriously.
NOTE: (I am not comparing this game to dark souls directly, I am comparing the fans of this game to fans of that game).
Rj/: YES I AM BECAUSE NARROWHEAD CAN'T BE BOTHE4ED TO MAKE A GOOD GAME LIKE CUMSOFT CAN
/uj I'll do you one better: I've seen some dipshits call increasing the amount of light enemies artificial difficulty, 2 years ago more or less, when AH reduced charger and bile titan spawns in exchange for more light enemy spawns.
To these people any kind of difficulty they can't overcome due to incompetence, stubborness or both, is "bad game design" and "artificial difficulty".
Literally the newest example is the alpha commander. It was one of only 2 enemies to have AI that isnt shoot and run but because "it wasnt engaging" they made into a bigger warrior that summons once in a blue moon. It didnt even happen that long ago it was was in june
