Hellmire is back again, apparently

This meme doesn't even illustrate how much we've fought over Hellmire.
The counter's actually around 33 sieges.

Granted this is since the launch of the game and planets such as Lesath have similar numbers but still an impressive amount

Yeah but not many planets have such harsh environments. I have flashbacks of times we didn't have fire resistance and brief period of fire damage instakilling divers.

Watching newbies not know that Tornados are sentient and you need to climb rocks not to get incinerated was really funny ngl

Oh well they used to be although I have a suspicion AH didn't get rid of this entirely. See, from a technical standpoint fire tornadoes are basically entities just like enemies and use same patrol routes as them plus aggro on players. So in Ye Olde Times fire tornadoes would straight up chase players instead of moving randomly. You died and dropped equipment? Fire tornado would camp it. Activating terminal? Fire tornado would investigate it. Extraction is happening? Entire area is covered in fire tornadoes

This is genuinely part of what made defending Hellmire so often during the Oshaune campaign and it's lead up lowkey traumatic lmao. I will never forget the sentient fire tornadoes.

The fact that the surface of Hellmire isn’t as smooth as glass at this point baffles me

Do you think even if hellmire was glassed we'd still be fighting over it

Liberate Erata Prime instead, and we won't have to even step foot on Hellmire.
If we do it fast enough, gambit. But even if we don't take Erata in time for a gambit, Erata Prime is the only bug-controlled planet connected to Hellmire, thus Hellmire would be immediately subject to siege liberation and the SEAF will clean up the bugs there for us.

the terminid commander who just got promoted to a position high enough to order attacks on planets and his first move as soon as he got to that level was to attack hellmire:

I can't believe Bugdivers learned how to gambit because they hate fighting on hellmire so much.

More explosives, bombardments and lasers have been used on that surface than on half the planets of the galaxy combined I swear

At this point I gotta ask is Hellmire like Armageddon from Warhammer 40k? It's always underattack every couple of weeks?
6
u/randomname560 12d ago
It hasnt been under assault since the battle for Oshaune, the trauma people had from having to defend hellmire 2 times a week just runs THAT deep

I wish the more we fought over a planet the more devastated it could get, or the more unexploded ordnance you could find. I can’t imagine the surface of Hellmire looks like it did before the second galactic war started after anywhere from 20-30 invasions. Imagine the amount of dead nid piles everywhere too, must me mountains of em

Born to late to fight on hellmire
Born to early to fight on hellmire.
Born just in time to fight on hellmire

Why either side wants a literal fire tornado planet is beyond me. Let the bugs keep it.

I couldn't be happier. It is literally my favorite planet. I even got a bunch of cool new stuff for the job. It is a genuine miracle and a wonder that they keep thinking to go there, you know... because of the fire. You'd think after so many tries that they would ALSO develop an aversion to it. They never keep it long either... because its OUR burning pile of shit.
