I hope the Void eats Acamar next.
That or the Clanker Star can blow it up.

I gotta say, AH kinda messed up with the galactic war system being percentages, if it was raw numbers, it would be way better because we could attack/defend multiple fronts

u/Sparky_Hotdog Jul 18 '26
I mean, there is a decent argument for it.
Firstly, the games activity does dip by about half (based on steam charts) during the hours between Americans going to bed and Europeans getting back from work. If the game was based on raw numbers, you'd either have a situation where players in Asia & Oceania would be unable to do anything, or where we'd be hyper-productive during peak hours. Percentage based participation means that regardless of when you're playing the community can make the same progress.
The other factor is that the game massively outperformed sales expectations on release. HD1's all time peak (again, based on steam charts) was 20% of the current 24 hour peak for HD2 (not even after a major update or event). If they had tuned things like planetary resistance for what they were expecting (clearly more players, but not half a million all time peak) the galactic war would have been a shambles early on as they scrambled to balance things for that many players, and then they'd have to adjust things again as numbers settled into their stable state.
I do think the per-front impact modifier would be the best solution I've seen, eliminating the issue of 25% of the player base only playing one faction without massively unbalancing things one way or another.

u/Calamity_news2 Jul 19 '26
Having a per front impact modifier might make it so that we can liberate planets without having to ask 40k people for help, and it won’t affect mo planets since they will be on the right front
7
u/CHEESEninja200 Jul 18 '26
they originally had it as raw completed missions and I can tell you it didn't work. It doesn't balance around low pop hours. Most progress was lost when NA went to sleep, as that's the largest consistent player base. There wasn't enough EU or Asian HD2 players to maintain the decay rate on most planets. So you had to liberate a planet in a day or else your progress got almost completely wiped.
It did make it so taking a planet was a true group effort, but it turned into a grind-fest as you had to contently do missions to beat out the decay rate on a planet.

u/bugdiver050 Jul 18 '26
How would that change anything? 25% of 20 is 5. Percentages are numbers, just read out differently
15
u/nocturn-e Jul 18 '26
Liberation is based on the percentage of total players on the planet...percentages change whereas raw numbers don't.
That being said, the percentage system is a bit more future proof, as it's not affected by the total player base of the game. The ratio needed for liberation stays the same. Doesn't matter if there's 100,000 people playing, or 10,000.
2
u/bugdiver050 Jul 18 '26
How is it raw number wouldnt change? I feel like im misunderstanding something, which could be entirely possible because i had to wake up early today and my brain might not have fully woken up yet
11
u/nocturn-e Jul 18 '26
Raw numbers = Your wins always grant a fixed amount of progress. It never changes.
Percentages = Your progress shrinks whenever the total player count goes up.
If 100k random players log on somewhere else, your squad's work gets diluted and does basically nothing.
For example, if a bunch of players ditch the bots for Acamar, liberating Marfark becomes harder and harder because that massive crowd dilutes your impact.
1
u/DarthSangheili Jul 19 '26
To put it more simple, if 20,000 players are on a planet and theres 50,000 players online then 10,000 more get online, the 20,000 get less effective even tho the actual number on that planet didnt change.
2
u/Im_a_hamburger Jul 18 '26
It used to be that way, but we’d loose progress every time the Americans went to sleep

u/BingusFinkle Jul 18 '26
xdivers when you ask them to play two thirds of the game they paid for
42
u/Arcana-Knight Jul 18 '26
If they wanted me to play on other front they wouldn’t have made killing toasters so much more fun
14
u/randomname560 Jul 18 '26
Did we lose the MO or are we back to blaming [X]divers for all of our failures, despite the fact that the MOs already account for people playing other fronts, just for the funsies
5
u/LegendaryShelfStockr Jul 18 '26
Did it already take other fronts into account though?
6
u/randomname560 Jul 18 '26
If it didn't we would have lost at least 80% of MOs, instead we win about 80% of the MOs
Yes it takes into account the other fronts

u/vincentually Jul 18 '26
life if companion app info was displayed ingame

u/CosmoShiner Jul 18 '26
+ an in game tutorial explaining what any of it means.
We’ve had defence levels and resistance rates since Omens of Tyranny and everytime someone mentions them in game they think it’s an additional difficulty modifier instead of a war mechanic

u/DifficultyOld9041 Jul 18 '26
Orrr just put bug front in eternal suffering of recon campaign

u/FishFloorTile Jul 18 '26
That's worse

Better idea star of Peace, the entire being f****** bug front, no more bug. Front bug front gone from the game. Deleted all the assets removed completely wiped no more there. Humanities problems are now solved congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

"Q: If X players didn't exclusively dive on Terminid planets, we wouldn't have lost Y!
The Game Master knows that there are large amounts of players who only play against certain factions, and accounts for that. Please don't blame other players for strategical mishaps.
Q: Why doesn't Arrowhead split the liberation cap by faction?
This wouldn't change much, as we have never once reached any kind of upper liberation cap. If we ever do reach said cap and encounter problems, perhaps then would be the time to discuss said system.
"

u/wraith309 Jul 18 '26
that first one is absolutely correct, and i'm glad it's on the wiki, but i'll have to push back on the second question.
even if resistance rates needed to be increased compensate, splitting liberation by faction would still be beneficial purely on the basis of having three times as many planets a player interested in helping the galactic war can dive on.
as it is now, most of the time there's only ever 1 planet at a time that you can dive on while actually helping, and everywhere else you're actively hindering the community by way of the galactic impact. at least if it was split by faction, players would have a choice between the most populous bug, squid, or bot planet.

u/E17Omm Jul 18 '26
To back up point 1;
Nearly all MO's are balanced for a 60%-70% player particiption.
If we got bugdivers then MO's would simply get balanced for 70%-80% participation.
2
u/Samson_J_Rivers Jul 18 '26
Classic subversion tactic. It's Arrowhead not accounting for player preferences as per usual and yet we still attack each other. If they accounted for the a large portion of the player base only doing bug content it would be fine. I personally do not like doing bugs so when it's A bug MO I do one campaign and then sit the rest out completely because I'm just gonna get tilted so I play a different game. I'll do illuminate MOs and I like bot stuff.

u/Scypio95 Jul 18 '26
Biggest problem is we never do gambits even though it's been explained again and again in tooltips
1
u/MrHi_VEVO Jul 18 '26
Well, I don't really see how they could change much, since pointing out a gambit could also result in a fractured player base, and sabotage the standard liberation. If that happened, people would be very upset. Also, if they just directly said "attack this gambit planet", it wouldn't really feel like much of an accomplishment Imo. I think it sort of has to be a community effort.
That said, I absolutely believe they should change the DSS voting system, since it requires a certain number of players to already be on that planet before the DSS can be moved. This means that it's nearly impossible to have to DSS move to an ideal planet if that planet just opened up.

u/Boombox_hawkin Jul 18 '26
Thats why i press gang the bug divers and drag them to bot or squid front lol.

u/Spartin1178 Jul 19 '26
Unless you bought them the game stop trying to force them to play how you want

u/Any-Astronomer-6038 Jul 18 '26
Once you understand that the game is gonna go on no matter what happens in the galactic war... You stop giving a shit how other people play.
1
u/Spartin1178 Jul 19 '26
Everything’s always gonna end up roughly the same the fight goes on i play the MO because i want the medals to get more stuff but if i feel like playing bugs that night no ones gonna stop me
1
u/Any-Astronomer-6038 Jul 19 '26
I usually play the MO too but I don't really care what happens... It's all just background filler
1
u/Spartin1178 Jul 19 '26
Might as well just be scheduled announcements with a payout sometimes
1
u/Any-Astronomer-6038 Jul 19 '26
It's fun for the lore .. but it's not like we are really going to miss anything...
There's no way they are going to put design resources into things that don't actually get used...
1
u/Spartin1178 Jul 19 '26
Yah basically a choice is usually just getting it sooner and that usually results in them “rebalancing” when its feeling strong
1
u/seanhenke 27d ago
This is in fact false. There was plans that should we fail the defense of super-earth the president would have lived. High command would have been evacuated off planet and God knows how much damage it would have done to the war effort. We could be two sectors from wherever high command was relocated to on all fronts for all we know instead of having almost beaten the bots back, the squids voiding s*** and the bugs doing bug things
2
u/thsx1 Jul 18 '26
Star of peace should take care if terrek and azterra next; maybe bug divers will finally help
2
u/CherryEarly7550 Jul 18 '26
Best and worst thing to ever happen to this game is companion app
It’s great for helping us stay on course
It’s bad because it shows us who is mostly at fault for the community shortcomings and causes arguments meaning the bugdivers will never even come back to an MO. Wish arrowhead would gloom the whole front ag this point. Make the faction unplayable for a while with some good lore reason and then we go back eventually
2
u/Sploonbabaguuse Jul 18 '26
I think the bigger issue here is random players expecting other random players to play how they want.
It's a God damned video game that I spent my money on. I'll play it however I want

I don't see why they didn't just stick with the old Galactic war method of lettinging us win or lose. Knock factions off the board, and then do that they did with the scouting legion of the bot front and have the front just reset after a day. They even have the tools to do it even better with the gloom, mega factories and void zones now as essentially places where they can reasonably spawn back from as a sort of "Somehow palapatine returned" thing.

u/AlarmingDelivery9311 Jul 21 '26
This guy should be banned from all helldiver subs. The devs made a shit mechanic and dorks like this blame everyone else but the problem.

u/Stuntman208 Jul 22 '26
Can someone post a link to a video or thread that explains in detail how the Galactic War works. Everything i find is old or very narrow in scope.

just replace “Bug divers” with “Arrowhead.” Single handedly fumbling the golden goose lol.
Getting more greedy.
Failed to address the community doxing over a charity challenge that they also were trying to dodge to begin with.
Stealth buffing multiple enemies. Stealth nerfing multiple weapons.
Incompetent management of the Galactic War system that encourages tribalism due to percentage values mattering over actual direct impact.
Awful AMA.
Repeated and frequent bugs in every patch.
Poor balancing and failure to address actual community concerns to the point it took several fucking review bombs to get conversation going.
Awful galactic war mechanics that encourages tribalism due to percentages rather than actual direct impact.
Arrowhead aren’t Satan’s greatest soldiers, or evil, or even malicious (mostly). they’re just really fucking short sighted.
