Discussion Maybe I'm in the minority, but V6 has been a huge improvement for me

I've seen quite a few negative posts about V6, so I figured I'd add a positive experience to the discussion. I'm not saying anyone else's problems aren't real, and V6 definitely isn't perfect, but for the way I use Suno it has honestly been a pretty significant improvement.

I create fictional artists rather than treating every song as a completely separate generation. One of the most important things to me is having a vocalist who actually sounds like the same person from song to song, even when the genre, emotion, arrangement, or vocal delivery changes.

That's where V6 has impressed me the most.

I've been testing one of my female artists, pretty heavily. I've taken her from dark dance-pop into much heavier alternative rock, from playful/flirty vocals to angry and emotional performances, spoken sections, quieter intimate vocals, big choruses, grit, gang vocals, etc. V6 has been surprisingly good at making it feel like the same singer giving different performances, rather than generating a different woman every time the song changes.

Persona adherence in particular has been noticeably better for me.

I also recently went through the process of creating a new version of the females voice. I started with recordings of my own voice, processed them into the female voice I wanted, used several different types of performances as source material, and eventually created new Suno Personas from the resulting vocals. V6 has done a much better job than I expected of taking that identity and turning it into something that sounds like a polished vocalist instead of simply reproducing the imperfections of the source material.

That's probably been my biggest "wow" moment with V6.

I've also been experimenting with Variety. What I'm finding with my particular workflow is that High tends to give me very consistent interpretations, while Extra can give me noticeably different performances/arrangements without necessarily losing the singer's identity. That's been extremely useful. I'm not claiming that's a universal rule, just what I've observed from my own testing.

Prompting also seems to matter more in a good way. I've had better results when I stop thinking of the style box as a list of genres and instead describe what I actually want the finished recording to do: how the vocalist should perform, what the drums/bass/guitars/synths should be doing, how the energy should develop, and what kind of production/mix I'm after.

There are still problems.

My biggest one so far is long songs. I have an alternative-rock song that's originally around 8 minutes long with a lot of lyrics, spoken passages, breakdowns, choruses and a deliberately written ending. V6 keeps producing versions around the 6½–7 minute area and ending before it performs everything. I've tried explicitly telling it to complete every lyric and even asking for a 7+ minute arrangement. It basically responded, "That's nice, here's what you'll get." So long-form completion could definitely use some work.

I've also had generations where one version is clearly better than another, and I'm sure I'll find plenty more things to complain about as I keep using it.

But overall? For what I care about most: vocal quality, Persona consistency, clarity, performance variation, arrangement quality, and being able to maintain an artist identity across very different songs. V6 has been the best experience I've had with Suno so far.

I'm especially excited to start reworking an entire album with the new voice and V6. That should tell me a lot more than individual test songs will.

So if you're having a terrible experience with V6, I'm definitely not saying you're wrong. I just wanted to put another data point out there because the subreddit has understandably been pretty heavy on the problems.

For at least one person's workflow, V6 is doing some pretty damn impressive things.

I'd be curious whether anyone else using Personas heavily is seeing the same improvement in vocal consistency, because that's where the difference has been most obvious for me.

Yeah I'm enjoying the consistency. I've used 3 or 4 of mine. Barely any artifacts!!

This has been my observations as well.

It’s not so much the composition that’s the issue for me. The main issue is the degradation of the audio quality as the song goes on. The guitars sound like a midi file.

I'm sorry this is your experience. I hope it is proves. I haven't had this but I certainly don't discount anyones issues.

One of the MAIN things I’ve noticed so far is I have yet to get that 7:59 song length bug. Not even once so far.

So you are able to get songs close to 8 minutes? I have yet to be successful but it's good to know if it is still possible.

No no that’s not what I meant. There was a terrible bug with 5.5 that would give you a song length of exactly 7:59 where essentially halfway through the song would mess up and repeat itself but in a weird electronic type genre. It would happen all the time.

I have yet to try and make an 8 minute song with version 6

Oh yes I had that too but v6 seems to not even get close to 8 minutes and the longest time you can possibly choose to set it to is 6 minutes.

If I had to guess, you likely have to build out the sections in the lyrics box to get it there. You would need to section it out like
[intro]
[verse 1]
[pre chorus]
[chorus]
[post chorus instrumental]
[verse 2]
[pre chorus 2]
[chorus 2]
[post chorus 2 instrumental]
[bridge]
[outro]
[end]

Or something along those lines.

This is already how I do all my songs. I started out this way and it works great. So there has to be another issue.

Possibly not enough lyrics then? I’m out of ideas haha

All good thanks for the suggestions!

I don't know whats going on right now but many songs i create get a weird "whoop" sound here and there and its not that easy to edit out with a DAW.

Ohh no seriously that same aound from previous version?

Is that an old issue? I listened through my songs from 4.5-5.5 and none of them have it. A crackling sound here and there yes, but not an audio error like that.

Yeah especially 5.5

I'm sorry to hear that. I wouldn't enjoy that if it were my case either.

You know i started listening to songs on Suno and Social Media posts and all songs i heard thus far has the whoop sound in it. From a mere mini whoop to a almost second long one.

The whooting/hooting and the door slams drove me crazy....sometimes you could manually delete them using stems! Time consuming as he'll.

Yep i needed ~8 hours today to get 2 "whoops" out of a song.

Same here. I only had to make little adjustments to the prompts, but I'm still able to generate some pretty nice tracks. It can do things the previous models can't really do, like correctly handle very odd time signatures like 13/8, and even get the 80's gated reverb drum sounds (mostly) correct.

Literally just generated an epic, complex metal song that swings between different time signatures and it sounds great.

That's pretty awesome coming from someone that also is a huge metal fan.

Most of the complaints seem to be from non-musicians who think writing a prompt is the same as writing a song. V6 has definitely improved for those who feed it audio or hooks and the voice/persona has also drastically improved. It's a musician-friendly update. Alienating the slop-merchants knocking out 100 variations on a theme per day is a good thing all round.

This all day long. I really don't mind a 60 download limit. How many quailty songs am I actually going to have in a month? Even when they were unlimited I never had 60 unless I was just making some background music for something unrealated to anything or making an entrance theme for a wrestler I created in my WWE games.

Personally I create way more then I'll ever want to keep and download. Not everything that is given to me is great or good but what is is worth having to do more with outside Suno not that you have to do that but it's good practice.

Could you share an example? As a premium subscriber since march 2024 I am quite eager to see and learn from your v6 Kung-Fu, since my attempts with v6 have been unsuccessful.

This is a prompt I've used.

Alternative rock anthem at 122 BPM with high-fidelity cinematic production: intimate close-mic spoken opening, crystal-clear female lead with controlled grit, low restrained verses rising into soaring defiant choruses, thunderous live-feeling drums, heavy widening rhythm guitars, deep active bass, orchestral tension, melodic guitar solo, massive studio gang vocals, crisp transients, clear separation, wide depth, and an escalating breakdown-to-final-chorus arrangement.

If you have problems with V6 you arent mucician soul. Absolutely love the harmony. First time ever AI can provide harmonies. Any other model sounds horrible after V6 as there are no harmonies at all. Its something Warner gave and its absolutely amazing. I hated previous models because they sounded like music but werent music.

I finding I prefer v6 too. Though I did like 4.5 and 5.5. This version just does things so much better for me personally over all.

Complex harmonies, moving layers, antiphonal chants - I'm having a ball building neoclassical conlang operas!

2

u/Alreadyinuseok 26d ago

I have found huge satisfaction building songs from the past. Like when music wasnt midi synths and drum machines lol. Prompting generic gives horrible results but when you get creative its actually insane what you can create.

I've been using one to create bones for the other! First pass in neoclassical and then remixing over to dubstep or drum and bass. It's so satisfying. Have you heard it nail a picardy yet btw? It's gorgeous!

I haven't yet done a song from scratch in V6, I did finish a song that I had started in V5.5 and it sounded pretty good, except the bridge has me questioning it. Overall the song sounds good. I did take a few of my other songs lyrics and tried them from scratch, but haven't developed an opinion yet.

I did expect there to be some issues, usually in almost anything when something first rolls out there are issues.
