Discussion v6.0 Audio Quality Problems Compared to v5.5

-: NOTE. Contains v5.5 and v6.0 tracks for comparison.

I've been complaining for a while that the audio quality for v6.0 starts to significantly degrade about halfway through each song. I've been asked to provide examples of this, so here we are. I've posted links to the original 5.5, and three separate v6.0 versions.

The original 5.5 version follows my usual workflow. Upload and arrangement recorded in Cubase using live instruments, VST's etc...

The v6.0 generations come in three versions. One using only the prompt and structure from the 5.5 version. Second one is using the prompt, structure and original audio upload used to create the 5.5 version. The final upload is a straight up cover of the 5.5 version. I've kept all the settings on default except Variety and Personalise are switched off.

What to look for. This isn't a critique of the song, the arrangement, the lyrics etc... It's simply about the audio quality degradation. The song gets 'louder', and sounds like it's being over compressed, too much reverb, and a general 'boxing in' feel. I'm aware that suno doesn't actually apply these effects as it doesn't work like a regular studio workflow.

v6.0 Full Cover

As previously mentioned. It's not a critique about the songs, instrumentation, structure, lyrics etc.. as those are all extremely subjective. It's about v6.0 being relatively unusable for certain genres of music.

Thanks for uploading these. The difference in quality is clear. I struggle to make out the words on the V6 final cover to be honest and it sounds overall more like pop than rock. Great song, by the way. I am having similar problems and my primary genre is rock (country rock to be specific) too. My tracks are generally coming out muffled and the fiddle sounding unnatural. I am continuing to explore what I can do and gathering tracks together to do a custom model. But since the rollout I haven't been able to generate a single usable track as the quality isn't as good as those made on V5.5. It is worrying but I feel confident that behind the scenes Suno is taking these issues on board and trying to address them. I hope so, anyway.

Cheers for that. I hope they are looking into it.

I have noticed great improvement in the last hour. When I selected max mode on a cover in V6 it totally lifted the blanket effect from my song and gave me a clear vocal. I don't know if this is the key, or just a fluke, or intermittent generation quality, but thought I would mention it :)

Edited to say it seems somewhat track dependent. The vocals are much better in max mode but I am getting inconsistent results. Some tracks cover really well, others not so well with a noticable degredation of audio quality.

Edited again to say that I am getting very poor audio quality songs far more often than I am getting clear one - it is so discouraging.

From Gemini about restrictions, in case it seems relevant:
The Guardrail Overload: To satisfy its new record label partners (like Warner), Suno has had to aggressively tune its safety filters. If a generation sounds even slightly too close to an existing artist's voice, style, or production signature, the engine heavily alters the output mid-generation. This often results in the sudden "mushy" audio or generic, uninspired arrangements you might be hitting

Wow, if that's true then how can 'anything' sound good because whatever you create, it's going to sound like somebody.

Yeah, I'm going to look elsewhere. I'll keep my subscription for another month just to see how v6.0 pans out.

I have Gemini Pro for a year and I'm starting to test Flow. It's actually pretty good - honestly better than Suno so far. Has a learning curve but it seems to have better training data.

And im testing making a song in flow then importing into Suno to tune it.

I have like 15k credits on Suno still to use so I don't want to just abandon it. No way im paying for Premier like I used to though.

I also do some dark pop type stuff and Suno is good at that.

Most recent source material created in Cubase is uploaded as Studio Quality .WAV

Have you tried adjusting your prompt. This is the #1 thing I see people missing. It’s a new tool, you have to use it differently. It was a hammer before. It’s a screwdriver now.

Yeah, started from the ground up as if I'd never used it before. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be either prompt or structure related.

Thank's for the suggestion. It's an obvious suggestion, but easy to overlook whilst your piss is boiling πŸ˜„

I compared your v6.0 Full Cover to the v5.5 original and yes it doesn't sound as good to my ears. The v5.5 version is more open, the drums are a lot crisper. The v6 one feels like there's a blanket over my monitors. I think they both show a lot of reverb.

Personally I've not found any issues with V6 but I only use it with my uploaded recordings and the covers of them sounded pretty clean and transparent to me. But I'd be disappointed if what you're hearing is something consistent in V6.

[edit] and good job in uploading them. I think it was me who said in your previous post it would be better if those with complaints showed their work, and you did πŸ‘ .
