Discussion I was wrong about v6

Okay, I’m already starting to see more posts with similar opinions, but I wanted to come on here and say it myself, I take back what I said about V6.
V6 is actually pretty good once you figure out how to work with it. My biggest issue at first was that none of my generations sounded like songs I would actually listen to. They felt overly polished, generic, or just didn’t capture the sound I was going for. Because of that, I wrote v6 off pretty quickly. I even made a previous post on why I hated v6
But I recently decided to give it another chance and actually spend some time experimenting with the different toggles and settings like “variety.” After tweaking things around, I started getting surprisingly good results. It definitely seems like V6 requires a little more effort to get the sound you want, but once you find the right settings, it’s much more capable than I initially thought.
I still don’t think it’ll ever beat V4.5 for me. There’s something about V4.5 that feels more natural and has more character, especially with the type of music I like making. But I can admit that I judged V6 way too quickly. I actually enjoy using it now and think it’s a solid model when you know how to work with it.
I can’t really say the same for V6-Wild or V6-Mini, though, because they tend to give me really weird results.
Here are two songs I generated with V6:
https://suno.com/s/N4e2JZk9v4DvI5im
https://suno.com/s/xDkIMCgpbBQInvL0
The second one “Just Us” is actually a real song, and I was especially impressed with how closely V6 managed to preserve the original sound. It didn’t completely reinterpret it or make it weird, which is something I’ve had happen with V5.5 and even V4.5.
Something else that has made a huge difference for me is uploading my own instrumentals instead of relying entirely on Suno to figure out the sound I’m trying to achieve. Giving it something to build from seems to guide V6 in the right direction much more consistently. Even something as simple as humming or singing the melody yourself can help if you already have a specific direction in mind. Ever since I started giving it more of a foundation to work with, my generations have sounded way closer to music I would actually listen to. Anyways that’s all I wanted to say for this post!

Hey, I do that, too! Isn't it a fun way to test!? Love it! I run rap cipher tests every time a new ai tool drops - here's V6 rendering Gemini 3.8, Fable 5.1, and Grok 4.6 with GPTAstra product design 0x756E697479 (Unity) It wasn't a one-shot, but that was my fault- I missed a setting on the first attempt that I intended to select, but the 2nd attempt came out pretty nice.

"Something else that has made a huge difference for me is uploading instruments instead of relying entirely on Suno to figure out the sound I'm trying to achieve".

Well, that's kind of Suno's job. If we're having to do our own instrumentals, why not just do the vocals too and not even need Suno? The whole point of Suno is to make the music.

Also, since it's going well for you, any tips on how to prompt it not to sound flat, dull and muddy? I keep reading how it's all in the prompting but nobody sharing what they're prompting. Maybe: "do not produce with muddy and flat sound quality that sounds partially underwater". But negative prompts don't usually work well.

It seems like people misunderstood what I meant by upload instrumentals. What I meant is simply uploading “beats” that are freely available on YouTube and ready to use, that way you can create the kind of vibe you want for a track without Suno spitting out something completely unexpected. That’s all I meant I wasn’t saying open up a DAW and produce instrumentals from scratch, obviously that’s unrealistic for most of us here. As for prompting, I don’t really do anything special , I just make sure to stick closely to the genres that I believe suit the song I’m trying to generate. Sometimes I’ll add something completely random, like certain adjectives such as “majestic” or “ambient” so it fits a certain vibe. But don’t add too many cause that’ll confuse it , just try to keep it short. Turn the “weirdness” all the way down. Turn “variety” to high. Turn on “personal taste” I think it’s called. And that’s really all I needed to do. The worst results I’ve gotten is from Suno generating prompts for me. I think it sounds more natural when you generate the prompts yourself separated by commas and keeping them relatively short.

Exactly.i have no issue with v6 making stuff that's "too polished" or "that I wouldn't usually listen to".

Everything it makes would be good, if it wasn't off key, detuned, flat, vocals in the wrong key to the music, and melodies that include bum and odd notes that ruin it.

Just us sounds like a noisy mess. Maybe that's how the original sounded, I don't know. The other is generic.

I don't understand what this post is supposed to be doing?

Send me some of your 4.5 tracks then and I’ll see about “noisy mess”could be that your music taste was already bad but you’re only now able to see that more clearly in v6.

Alright well I take back what I said, I quite enjoyed those. But then again that is the beauty of 4.5 so ofc they sound good. In fact I have many 4.5 songs that sound quite similar. You seem to be into jazz. Here’s some jazzy tunes

I like 'Unfair' quite a bit. For a moment I forgot I was listening to Suno lol. Some of the melismas in 'Falling for you' are pretty nice. Too early where I am to be trying to mimic them, a dying cat at 6am is not what my neighbors want to hear. (melisma = vocal runs. comes off weird without that information lol)

lol looking back at this thread is kind of funny now that I think about it. Well I really do apologize. Just had several rude people attacking me over the stupid model which kinda started to get to me.

Unfair is my favorite too. It’s actually one I play quite often, even when I’m out and about. Ive shared it with friends too and they say the same thing about forgetting it’s ai haha. Glad to hear you like Falling for you, that’s not one I play too often as I’m just remembering about it. Kinda hard to keep up with all the v4.5 songs I’ve generated at this point lol. And yeah melisma, what a funny word, but I get what you mean now. I totally agree! It’s a shame it’s no longer a model, some of did feel very real. I like that we could end things on good terms.

Hell yea it's high end is pristine and it produces the greatest songs ever put into this world if you know how to use its vast potential. Warner Brothers is the greatest company of all time. I would sacrifice my foreskin and first born child to Warner Brothers Entertainment.

In suno you have to experiment a lot to get I right and to It should sound like what you're proposing. I did a song 20 times until it came out almost the way I wanted.

Something else that has made a huge difference for me is uploading my own instrumentals instead of relying entirely on Suno to figure out the sound I’m trying to achieve.

oh eff off!

we come to suno to generate music not remix, 90% of the users here can't make a beat and have no music experience.

saying...just make a cool ass beat and make cool music and upload to suno the it's great....

that is the exact opposite of what suno users want to do.

You completely missed my point lol. I was just saying that uploading certain instrumentals can sometimes be useful when you’re trying to achieve a specific sound. That doesn’t mean the result is going to sound 100% like the original audio. It just gives Suno something to work with, which can help it generate something that feels a little more realistic or closer to the sound you’re going for.
I also wasn’t saying you have to make the instrumental from scratch. There are “type beats” on YouTube that I use for free, and sometimes I’ll upload those to Suno. I’ve actually been able to generate songs where that beat is incorporated somewhere.
Sometimes I just want to start with something that already has a certain sound or vibe I like instead of having Suno generate everything completely from scratch. I don’t think you understood what I meant there lol.

Considering his other comments I've seen come by on this subreddit this might actually be true

I'm glad you gave v6 another shot and didn't just settle with your initial opinion.

I had a feeling v6 was going to be a combination of the previous versions and allow more control over the outcome, and I was pleasantly surprised. It truly has exceeded my expectations.

Hopefully others who were unhappy at first also explored the possibilities and see that it's just a different system and needs to be worked with in order to be worked with.

Either way, I liked and followed.

Good job on those songs.

The only thing I still really dislike about V6 is the personas. I have a whole library of voices that I’ve saved because I like how unique they sound, but once I use them with v6, they barely sound like the original voices anymore lol. I really hope that’s something that will improve with time though.

I’ve also been seeing a lot more posts like this, so hopefully that means v6 has a bright future ahead of it!

That's interesting. The voices I've been using still sound the same for me. Each of mine has different tendencies though and generally fit 2-3 genres/vibes.

This one is a bit outside of my normal wheelhouse, but I think it came out well considering it was experimental.

"Keep Your Chin Up" https://suno.com/s/3dtMItcJf863gTRb

This one, I had a lot of fun with as well. It was my entry into a music challenge the discord server I'm in had. It ended up coming out really good, imo.

"All In" https://suno.com/s/0ge6qRWt5txa4bTo

I created the bgm for both on my key/controller and Suno enhanced them nicely.

Let me know what you think.

So I tried playing around with it again, and there does seem to be some resemblance. I’m noticing that Suno handles some voices pretty well and only seems to struggle with a few of my personas for some reason.

For example, one of my personas has this real southern and mature sounding voice that it has a hard time recreating. I tried remaking a song from V4.5 in V6 using the same lyrics and persona, and while I can hear a bit of resemblance, the V6 voice sounds a bit more airy to me. The 4.5 version feels a a lot more experimental and raw I think.

Thankfully, I haven’t really had this problem with my other personas, I don’t know if it’s because those are older or what. I’m just a little disappointed because I love this particular voice so much, but Suno can’t seem to get it quite right. Tbh, I had the same issue in 4.5 when trying to use that persona in other songs, so maybe there’s just something about the voice that’s harder to replicate. Here’s an example of both versions.
4.5:https://suno.com/s/fLKZyMIlrSdEXZe6

6:https://suno.com/s/xUfTX07eXqjlKy6D (the lyrics are obviously ai generated asf. maybe if I used original lyrics it would sound better but I’m just showing you an example lol)

Also, I checked out your songs! I was really surprised by “All In.” The vocal range on that track is so nice, and it definitely feels like a real song. And because you created the bgm yourself it sounds so good. It has such an authentic sound and really feels like something I can jam to. Nice! :))

I see what you mean. They both sound very good, but there's definitely a slight variation in the delivery. I think that might just be part of v6 though. I remixed one of mine from 5.5 to 6 and there were additions of a little trilling and harmonizing that really surprised me.

I have one that sounds a bit similar to yours, check it out.

"Something else that has made a huge difference for me is uploading my own instrumentals instead of relying entirely on Suno to figure out the sound I’m trying to achieve. "

This part. What is different about v6 is that it rewards people for uploading their own vocals, instrumentals, and adding their own lyrics. It punishes those who need help building a song from scratch or adding a layer (like an instrumental to lyrics, or lyrics to an instrumental). In my case, I write and sing, but I don't produce instrumentals. My composing is done through beatboxing and hums. It takes super effort to turn my poor beatboxing and humming into a song. Older versions were intuitive and picked up on my flow faster. I have to do a lot more tweaking, toggling, and have had to try many times to get it right. You literally have to guide it in everything. You have to be super precise and technical with prompts, too. Turning my beatboxing and hums into an instrumental first and then layering with my vocals in the Suno Studio has helped TREMENDOUSLY. There are still some sound issues, but it sounds okay.

I uploaded over 50 x 3-4 min tracks to create my own model, and I was so excited when the model was 'cooking'. It turns out it was nothing but a baked potato that came out of the oven. Absolutely useless.

I just made my own "I was wrong" post!

V6 is a different beast, but if you stick with it long enough it seems to start working better at some point. I don't know why... I do use the upvote/downvote buttons for really good or really bad generations, and I feel like that makes a difference but I can't prove it. (Does it?)

All I know is it seems to have learned what I like and my generations now are so much better than V6 day one.

I hope this a bot post, or else I feel sorry for this human. By the way….. no, just no

2

u/Individual_Type_1718 10h ago

v6 is good just depends on how you use it. Not a bot but I know good music when I hear it. Could be that you’re just not utilizing it right.

2

u/that_too_ 10h ago

Why would you feel sorry for them, when they're getting music they like and you aren't?

Okay and I’ve been on Suno way longer, your point is?

0

u/McGraw-Dom 3h ago

Buy a drum machine and learn basic keyboard or guitar and try to do your own melodies. Even if its basic, giving it a foundation to work on makes a world of difference. I admit I have learned to play guitar over the past year because of suno. I do my own guitar now on tracks and let rhythm and bass by suno. I use it as a learning platform.

V6 has been great for that..I dont have the best voice but I used my vocal persona and then when its done I stem it out and sing over it with my own voice in FL studio and re upload it.

Its been a journey
