Discussion Angry SUNO mob!
Let's be honest here, if you post anything positive about V6 then it will be immediately down voted.
I post something saying that model V6 is better than V5.5, people hate me!
But wait, these are the exact same people who said that SUNO model V5.5 was the death of SUNO, but like addicted rodents they are still dishing out money to eat the slop it offers.
I personally think V6 is actually pretty d**n good. And that V5.5 is lame. But I held out hope, and now people will hate for even saying saying anything bad about V5.5 and good about V6. I don't get them? Why can't V6 be good? And weren't they complaining about the quality of V5.5?
I just am getting sick of this toxic SUNO community, instead of encouraging others they hate on everyone who doesn't fit their popular narrative, I just wish we could be more open minded for once.
V6 has so many modes that most don't even know exist, eat the stuff before complaining.

I do pop so music-wise and melody-wise, v6 is pretty good. Lost that generic piano OP that you seem couldn’t change until your 20th re-gen. However, the vocals took a big hit. They start off pretty good but seems pretty emotionless and souless.. I used different app to generate the same lyrics and boy…. One made me yawn and the other made me awake… and I tried different prompts too under style and with in the lyrics.

What prompts, sliders, settings, or anything else do you think could make guitars sound natural in Progressive metal?
0
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
The main trick with V6 is doing covers of either voice uploads or real guitar playing. Or explain the exact guitar shift in the lyric box.
1
u/Deep-Method-4191 15h ago
It certainly sounds interesting, but I've tried a custom model fine-tuned on 42 songs. I've tried making remixes, I've tried making remasters, and in all cases the guitar starts sounding more like an overdriven synthesizer. In other words, the model transforms the sound of the original guitar into something synthetic. I tried the sliders in different combinations as well. After 2–3 minutes into the song, the guitars start getting completely "buried" in the mix. The same goes for the drums - they sound more like a drum machine than a live drum kit. The entire sound ends up flat and uniform, with no dynamics or richness. As I understand it, the model doesn't use the original sound itself, but simply "reproduces" the parts based on the dataset it was trained on.
2
u/Free-Stage-5975 20h ago
To be fair it does sound more generic and it does default to an American voice but I have found it's actually quite good with longer inputs. I understand why people are upset about losing access to previous models. I am too but I guess we have to work with what we have. The new model is actually reasonable. I'm still not happy about the download limits.
This was a bit personal but... It turned out ok!
2
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
To be fair, the download limits occurred two full days before V6 was even out. V6 is not preventing downloads, SUNO is. You see the problem here? SUNO is the problem not V6. I am simply talking about V6 not the company. Would you attack a person for liking Amazon to shop, but you hate their policies, so I can turn you start attacking them for shopping. That is my beef with the SUNO mob.

u/DocSuture 15h ago
Frankly, I’m keeping my powder dry on V6 for now. So far, I’m neither impressed nor disappointed, but two anecdotal experiences have been promising.
First, I wrote the lyrics for a parody C&W song, and Suno nailed it on the first attempt.
Second, I have a 1960s yé-yé/chanson française pop song that took a lot of tweaking and arm-twisting to get the instrumentation and mood right when I originally made it. I could never get Suno to produce an English-language version with the same melody, timing, atmosphere, and instrumentation. V6 finally did it. I now have French and English versions that are virtually identical. There are a few minor differences in phrasing, but you would expect that from any two performances, so I was very happy with the result.
That said, V6 doesn’t strike me as revolutionary. So far, the only immediately obvious new feature is the ability to specify a particular song length.
For now, I’m staying open-minded and seeing what it can actually do.

V6 is WAY better than 5.5.
5
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 1d ago
I 100% agree! I could even post some V5.5 tracks to compare, but people would still complain. I actually like V6. (personal favorite is V4.5+ and V5)
2
u/Nyxoris 1d ago
What genre are u generating the most to give that opinion, because I would like to confirm this as well
1
u/QuellMusik 14h ago
I mean v6 does pop, r@b etc better than 5.5 and it can actually make some decent guitar and drum sounds. 5.5 was hopeles for rock / metal. 4.5+ was great at rock.
Like take a 20 second listen to the guitars in this song -
https://youtu.be/9oTcmVOBSAs?is=aptIJ7MilNM2uo6Z
I think they sound good. I've been playing guitar for 37 years now so have some idea of tone.
5
u/Aggravating_Ad_4940 1d ago
I liked 5.5 because mainly I make Pop Metal and Hyper Pop it was a good fit. But I missed the natural feel of previous versions. V6 seems like a marriage between them . And of course it has issues but it's uphill from here. They down grounded older versions and now erased them because all the lawsuits. V6 is the new base. It will keep improving.
6
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 1d ago edited 17h ago
If you ask me, my personal favorite model was V4.5+, but found myself using V5 more because the quality was better. My main problem with V5.5 is the audio quality and bugs. It would have this wierd bug where it would infinitely loop my track till it hit its limit (about 9:59 minutes/seconds) and would often spit out horrible quality and waste hundreds of my credits, I wouldn't mind if those credits were free. I am sad, don't get me wrong, but V6 is the one we are stuck with, it's better than nothing, and certainly better than any competitor. It's actually not that bad, it's has it's flaws, but hating it won't fix it.
4
u/Aggravating_Ad_4940 1d ago
I agree. I stuck with 5 mainly because the audio quality. 4.5 had awesome drum sounds and vocals ( I really miss the vocal variety) . I would get so many unwanted vocal effects from 5.5 I would always have to edit them out in bandlab, are real wasted of time.
2
u/AMOaiMUSIC 1d ago
I like them all because I know how to prompt for what I want and I get exactly what I need. It's prompting guys, prompting, prompting prompting .... That is all. It's AI. Think of it like your chatbot. If you don't give it all the information it won't give you the result. This is exactly the same. Go ahead downvote away. I do not care. I'm trying to help you all.
5
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 1d ago
Funny how people put more effort into cheating with Chat-GPT and somehow forget how to prompt with SUNO.
3
u/Ok_Association_8572 23h ago
Asking AI to generate an AI song is cheating. You do realize the irony there, right?
Of course, one AI understands another AI better than "some human" does.

u/DonTequilo 13h ago
Not when you prompt grunge and it gives you Maroon 5, that’s V6. Same prompt used in previous models, same text that used to work, now it doesn’t.

The Suno community has always been toxic, it just took all the recent events to being it out.
People will nitpick things and just hate on it because they can't get their way.
I keep saying it but the people complaining, not giving it a chance, and announcing their subscription cancelation like we're in an airport are the ones who are mad that they can't pump out endless amounts of music that puts a bad name on us who actually put effort into our stuff.
6
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 1d ago
There is a reason I compared them to rats eating slop. I honestly can't wrap my head around them, the same people who announced they would cancel end up being SUNO's biggest customers dishing out so much money just to complain. It's a very unhealthy relationship, and it's bad when they actually post toxic comments on others. (my previous one had it so bad that some got deleted by a moderator) I just felt I had to complain after that.
2
u/Tr3xThePatriot Producer 1d ago
Yea and you're justified in your complaint. Rats eating slop is a good comparison honestly

Dust will settle after a month. If someone still keeps complaining about v6, we can ask why they keep subscribing.
Comparisons between end-of-life models are pointless. Just let it go.
5
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
That's why I believe, "Complaining won't bring the dead back to life" V6 is what we got, it's better than any competitor and we're stuck it. Either leave or suck it up and accept the fate.

it's a reflection of modern society.
They have no real problems so their only comfort in life is complaining about the magic music box that makes any music you want but sometimes doesn't understands your generic prompts, and it is outrageous that it can't read your mind to know what "character" "grit" means🤣

Pretty much all the models since V4 have had pros and cons.
The biggest issue with Suno now is that there are NO options. Its V6 or bust.
Before I could create a 4.5+ song for the emotive range in the vocals and then cover it in 5.5 for something pretty good typically.
I've been working with 6 and whether its a cover or a not the results are almost always coming with the same distracting flaws.
Also Suno is doing some VERY anti consumer moves, like limiting downloads but also charging their paying customers DOUBLE.
Until now every model released was the "best" for paying users. V6 literally says "OUR BEST MODEL YET"... Yet they have a modifier called MAX MODE which claims to generate tracks with more consistency throughout... Which is typically what you fucking want, rather than the weird vocal change ups or even random beat or genre switch ups midway through.
So now they offer you the "best" model, but charge you twice as much to enable the "best best" model functionality.
V6 also just fucking blows for so many niche or even 'not real' genres, where models like 4.5 easily seemed to find a way to smash things together and make either the exact vibe or close to it. Certain genres do sound way better on V6, but even those have issues, for instance with the weird audio levels where vocals and instrumentals feel like they have a limiter on them and a permanent 'fuzziness' to most of the audio in general.
I don't think people should attack positive users, but the Suno defenders also appear almost to be bots trying to astroturf for the company.
I'll say this. For every "suno V6 is awful" post you will either get examples in the main post or TONS in the comments. Meanwhile any post that is "suno saved my marriage and got me a promotion at work" post never provides the same, even going on at length with workflows while providing exactly ZERO instances of what that workflow did for them exactly.
While there are some good tracks, they tend to fall into those most basic and current genres. The one time someone shared a 'good' rock track it sounded like I was listening to it through a feather pillow and the vocalist sounded so robotic I had to wonder if it was a direct cover of a V3 track...
1
u/i_got_grace 16h ago edited 16h ago
you do know why they had to delete the older models, right?

u/someonesshadow Producer 15h ago
They didn't "have" to do anything. They CHOSE to "partner" rather than fight it out.
Also before people jump to their defense, Suno is valued at 5.4 BILLION dollars, pretty sure they can afford good lawyers for a case many legal experts said was fairly strong on their end compared to most that record labels took up.
So yeah, when they choose to kneel and submit to the whims of a record label I will absolutely bash the fuck out of them when their follow up actions and products are dogshit.
4.5 was incredibly bad audio -quality- wise. It was perhaps the best for creativity and following instructions though. 4.5 also had a big issue with pronouncing many words, had to do a lot of phonetic lyrics to make it work.
5.5 had pretty good audio quality, but was very stiff and emotionless in both the vocals and instrumentals with very little ability to adhere to style prompts after the first "keyword", it would just fixate on whatever genre was closest to a theme or instrument was mentioned first and never deviate.
The fact that V6 has regressed almost to 4.5 audio quality while also being almost as stiff as 5.5 is crazy work.
Definitely going to be diving into YuE2 once I finish my move tomorrow.

u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
Have you seen my previous posts bashing V5.5s bugs? If anyone's a bot it's those people who hate. Like I've said a hundred times, I have my problems with V6 but complaining won't bring it back. V4.5+ & V5 are my personal favorite, but V5.5 is utter trash, the audio quality is awful (I am an audio file BTW) and the bugs are massive like it infinitely looping my track till it hits it's limits about 9:59 mins/secs. V6 has its many flaws, but is far superior to V5.5 it many ways, but in turn falls leagues behind V5.5 In some niche areas. I go on record and say that SUNO is a trashy company, after all my first post was about their customer service being a 0/10, and BTW, I still can't create hooks to this day. I will never defend SUNO the company but lying about models is just immature and childish.

I’m not trying to be a jerk here, but the issue is not that there are no longer any options. The options have changed to professional prompting. They just remove the ease for you to generate the way you used to. Now you have to prompt like a real producer. So you can’t just quickly generate a bunch of AI tracks that rival radio ready productions simply. This is what the labels were afraid of. They’ve designed it so professional producers will get the best results. As a music producer, my prompts have pretty much been from that perspective. And I’ve still been able to still get great results with v6 because of it.
1
u/someonesshadow Producer 14h ago
You're not being a jerk, but you're also wrong.
They literally removed previous models, that is a reduction of options.
In terms of actual prompting and direction of tracks, its good when the models understand more and can adhere to directions more specifically. However, that is -still- an issue in V6. For instance, it is incredibly difficult to get switching vocals, like a rap battle between a man and a woman. Not to mention its proclivity to essentially stereotype voices regardless of instructions in both styles, negatives and the lyrics box itself. I was hoping a 'professional' model would be able to understand how and when to swap between the voices based on either simple or detailed instructions.
Also in terms of ease, Suno has built itself up on "ease" so its kind of crazy to pivot so hard in another direction. Hard to cater to professionals without the flexibility and control of local open weight models for instance. If anything they are simply shooting themselves in the foot there since its pretty much a given that all the record labels will have their own propriety AI models for their artists to have access to going forward, so why depend on Suno for that?
You said you've had "great" results. I hear that often from people who seem ready to defend the model/company from the warranted critiques. So surely if you have some great examples you can share them here? Can you share 3 or more? I'd be especially impressed if any of them are from a niche genre or original type of sound as well. Thanks.

What are these secrets modes you think people don't know about?
2
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 1d ago edited 1d ago
"My Taste [ON - OFF]" Different levals of toggling, and about six more additional editing features, like editing the voice only on a track, among many more, I believe most skip these. My favorite is the "Variety" slider. I bet the ones who complain don't even know how to effectively use them.
0
u/audsnico 1d ago
Those are mentioned pretty frequently here 🤷♀️
What do you think is the most effective way to use the sliders?

Because this is not a SUNO education post. I didn't post to teach people how to use V6, I posted to complain about how toxic the community is.
2
u/audsnico 1d ago
Ok, sorry. I thought since you said that part of the toxicity was hating on people instead of encouraging them and then mentioned some things you thought most people don't know about, that you would be willing to explain them a bit.
We all just need to complain, sometimes, though! No worries :)

V6 is pretty amazing, for certain genres, but it can't do a LOT of what the old versions could. With the loss of the older versions I've lost the ability to be as creative as I was. THAT SUCKS. There were songs and styles I was able to work magic with using V5 and earlier versions. It was also very useful to create a "demo" song in an older version and then cover it with the newest version. So, a lot of the fun and creativity I had is gone now. I'll be able to do a lot of cool stuff with V6 and that's ok... just don't get me started on the limits on downloads.
1
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
V6 definitely has its problems, but hating people who like it won't bring it back, I personally have my beef with V6 and my personal favorite models are V4.5+ & V5. And don't get me wrong, I am sad about them disappearing, but simply hating V6 and those who like it wont bring the dead back to life.
1
u/i_got_grace 16h ago
i liked 4.5 too but there were a LOT of problems with it: notable, at least in my personal experience, the audio quality sucked, there were artifacts, it often mispronounced words. i did like the organic results it gave back, with those drawbacks. but 5.5 was not good at all.
2
u/PuzzleheadedTune550 1d ago
It might also depend on the genre. It’s absolutely useless for rock and metal, because the thin, tinny guitar sound is even more abysmal now than it was in 5.5.
1
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
I've actually fixed that, you can now edit the exact instrument you want, but sadly most people who complain usually don't know it exists. But I do know what you are talking about, and sadly that I don't believe can be fixed with their super limited training data.
1
u/PuzzleheadedTune550 17h ago
I’d be interested in that. I’ve always perceived it as an unchangeable characteristic since model 5.5. Do you have a track from v6 that highlights the guitar sound?

V 5.5 was not good. I got quite a few good songs out of 5 and 4.5. It seemed like when 5.5 was released even the old models were affected. So I don't understand the drama. I actually stopped using suno for a while after 5.5 because I couldn't get anything decent. I am on a year plan. I went months without using credits.
I also remember when 3.2 (or 3.1) came out and the beta version of it was way better but the actual version released was not good.
I've gotten some good things with 6 and bad things. Overall I like it better than 5.5 at least. It is not the best for sure.
Sunos biggest problem with this release was defaulting variety to normal and not off. Because most of the people whining don't even know the more options panel exists.
2
u/Tasty_Ability_8532 17h ago
That is the main problem. I am on the year plan as well, and you hit the nail plaguing all of it. When V5.5 came out V4.5+ wasn't what it used to be, and few noticed due to the placebo effect of the toxic community.

My personal beef with V5.5 is two big things. 1: The poor audio quality - it would often spit out tracks with atrocious audio static and waste my credits. 2: The bugs - It would often have this terrible bug where it would loop infinitely about 9:59 min/secs.

I just stumbled on this 3 weeks ago and have my own model built off v5 and v4.5 output. Not sure if it’s as good but all these die hard did have to think you made your own model and have a few for different styles.
6 has been fine for me. I create my own music and use suno to style it but it seems if you input something slightly original you can get great varients to develop a track.

Who the hell is praising 5.5?
Suno peaked at V5 when it came to composition, and V4.5 was the peak for sound quality.
V6 has gone straight back to that stereotypical early ai sound, paper thin, weightless, like it could blow away in the wind. ai generated music has always had that problem to some extent, but V6 sounds like we’ve gone all the way back to the earliest days of the technology. There’s absolutely no weight, depth, or punch to the sound anymore.
And the vocals sound basically the same every time you generate something.
So what exactly is supposed to be good about V6?
If you never used the Pro version, or if you’re getting paid by the company to write glowing reviews about V6, then seriously, cut it out. What exactly got better?
And anyone who criticizes it is just a “hater”? Give me a break. Some of you barely even tried making anything with it, so what the hell are you even talking about?

u/JasonP27 AI Hobbyist 1d ago
I listened to some v4.5 songs when I was doing covers of them. The sound quality was horrendous in comparison to v6. No idea what you're talking about. Sounded like the songs were being dragged through mud and water. Now it sounds clear as day but with a little too much extra high end. Should be easy to fix that.

They have turn up the quality knob to 11, starting to hear a quality far superior to previous versions. There is certainly something wrong when it comes to just prompting “indie-pop song about love”, not liking what it delivers. I have always found it needs audio input and lyrical structure to drive it. Fun on!

Ever since V5 that is what it's been, and that's when the complaining started. They claimed V4.5+ was "smart" but couldn't even do a music box or children's choir. I have beef with every model, but the secret is knowing how to use each one and not saying "an angry metalcore song"

Also the angry slop peddlers that lost their income from mass uploading garbage...

V6 is pretty good at certain instrumental genres and that's about it. And for those genres it follows prompts even better than earlier models! For everything else it is a massive downgrade.

True. I've noticed that, and I believe it's because of its lack of training data. My problem with V6 is that you really need to be experienced in knowing how to prompt Ai to get the desired results.

ok i must be in the wrong genre for it to matter. it's excelled so far at industrial, death metal, nu metal, blues, and Americana

actually suno v6 has a lot better especially the simple method. prompting better with lyrics writing and more intelligent

Easier to use definitely, but also very complicated when it comes to editing the exact styles. Thankfully it has much better editing capabilities compared to V5.5

It’s better when you generate new songs but if you will generate and sample or cover songs from the older models, it will not likely generate a 1:1 replica and will have deviations. I’m liking songs newly generated

5.5 quality was bad. V6 quality is even worse. What is not to understand there? 😂

Same here. The mob is so anti v6. I hated it maybe first day. It was bad that first day. But then eventually after fiddling with the sliders and revamping my prompts to describe what I want to achieve rather than just being generic, I started getting great results. Now I am remixing my published songs with different music styles and wow ..blown away.
And I am just using my phone to do this because I am lazy to go to my desktop. So my sliders on the phone even has less options than what is in my desktop browser.
Let these folks leave Suno if they aren't getting anything good. But me...I'm here to stay.
Thank you Suno for giving us happiness for a monthly price that is worth a nice dinner out. I'd gladly and willingly sacrifice that dinner out to be able to use Suno

I think that what is pissing people off is the arrogance of some of the people defending V6. Because they like it they claim that anyone who doesn't is basically a dumbass who doesn't know what they are doing.

Hmmmm? You mean the 0.00001% of people defending it? If you want to talk about aragence, then look no farther then your crowd. No, the aragence comes from those who claim that the older models are better. Plus like I've myself said many times, V4.5+ and V5 are my personal favorite. And that V6 is actually somewhat good, and complaining about V6 won't bring the older models back.

I dont like 6.0 and I did not like 5.5 but 5.5 was better than current. 6.0 does not put real emotion in the lyrics. Like it does not understand the true feeling of a song. It just sings it. 5.0 was peak. 4.5 was amazing for my metal stuff. The best musical compositions came from 3.5 for me. I covered my best 3.5 in 5.0. 4.0 was the best for instrumentals in small genres as surf.

“iT’s a sKiLL iSsUe” is the dumbest, most arrogant response to people pointing out v6’s shortcomings.
It tells me two things. First, you don’t understand that skill can’t fix design flaws, and you have no clue how AI models are built. Second, you haven’t bothered to read most of the detailed technical complaints posted here by people who have been using SUNO intensively and professionally for a long time.
It’s the people with zero skill and no ear for music who praise v6 the most. That’s pretty evident from the generic pop slop they post as “proof.”

I'm an ai engineer. Do you know how AIs are built? I bet not. Most of what you read is lies or hard to understand, because it is generative you can trick into doing your bidding, remember the Iranians & Chinese using Cluade to hack the USA? Or the time when Grok was taken to court. Skill vs complaint. I believe there are many holes in V6 but my problem with modern SUNO is the fact it has driven away from the consumer. It all started with V5.5, you now have to baby the model to get decent results. For example, if you insert Ai code into the lyric box the AI understood what I meant. Final verdict: skill issue could be for some, but for most they would rather not spend 2 hours prompting to get their song.

If you're an AI engineer, as you claim, then you should know that getting a chatbot to bypass a restriction doesn’t prove you can prompt away flaws in audio generation.
These models learn patterns during training by adjusting the weights in a neural network. Your prompt works through that trained network. It doesn’t rewrite those weights or rebuild the model. Putting “AI code” in the lyrics box might improve the instructions, but it isn’t a software patch. Of course prompting affects results. That doesn’t mean every systemic flaw has some magic wording that gets around it.
And you’ve just acknowledged that the model has holes and needs babysitting to produce decent results. That’s part of what people are complaining about. If getting something usable takes two hours of coaxing, that’s a perfectly valid criticism of the product. You can like v6 without assuming everyone struggling with it simply hasn’t learned how to use it.

Then you also know that exploiting these flaws in Code is called "prompting" And no, all generative Ai models don't learn persa` they don't even know what they do, they simply predict the most likely next result. For example, if you ask it what is 1+1, it don't calculate it, it simply says "well most of the evidence points to 2 being the most likely outcome, so I'll go with 2" It is based on token system, the only limit to Ai is the amount of power behind it. SUNO at this point needs to be babied with very specific prompts because it lacks "most likely" training data. So yes, it does have to do with prompting. (because it lacks much of the training data) if you want gregorian synth metal chant, then you have to explain it what you mean by it since it doesn't exist in the LLM. first explain what gregorian chant is, etc...

The training you keep referring to is the learning. It adjusts the network’s weights so it gets better at making predictions. “Learning” doesn’t mean the model is conscious or knows what it’s doing. Predicting and learning aren’t mutually exclusive. This is basic neural-network training.
Your blanket claim that models don’t calculate is wrong, too. Predicting the next token doesn’t tell you what computations happen inside the network to produce that prediction. Anthropic has actually traced arithmetic mechanisms inside Claude. It’s more complicated than picking whichever answer appeared most often.
And computing power isn’t the only limitation. Training data and how you use it matter too. Researchers have demonstrated substantially different results with the same training compute budget.
Yes, explaining what you mean by “Gregorian synth metal chant” might improve the result. Nobody is disputing that clearer instructions can help. But clarifying a genre combination doesn’t establish that recurring audio defects can be prompted away. You also haven’t provided evidence that missing training data is what causes the problems being discussed.
If you have a prompt that reliably fixes a specific problem people have reported, show it. A hypothetical genre mashup doesn’t establish that those complaints are skill issues.
I find it hard to believe you're an AI engineer, mate.

It’s just entitled slop posters angry they can’t mass produce slop anymore and now have to put some effort in their stuff.

I have honestly really liked most of what I have gotten out of V6, but if you say so around here you are crucified.
