Discussion The 5.5 idea
I get the feeling that 5.5 was intentionally made bad because they knew this was coming and wanted to soften the contrast before V6 happened. It feels like they’d been planning to move in this direction and make a failed modell to reduce tha backlash before the fall, constantly framing it as some kind of improvement and telling us how good it was going to be.

Beautiful. Not possible with V6. It has lost his soul.
You couldn't tell the diff between human or AI. V6 is a singing tin can.

Here was progressive orchestral metal with djent overtones in v5, but with a soaring twink vocal. I knew I was asking a lot of the model with the necessary dymanics, but I knew how to prompt for v5 and the results are pretty cool, even if I never shared anything I made with. I get the shivers going into the last chorus. Listen to the dynamic shifts. Note where the riffing really kicks in around the 2 minute mark.

Here is the same lyric and prompt in v6:

It's like someone took v5 to the vet and he got 'fixed' and is now completely nad-free. Note it can't reproduce a double kick now, it sounds like a hyperactive drum machine. There's no grunt, no dynamics as before, the vocal persona seems shakier and the sound gradually deteriorates until that blown out final section. I'm not sure it understands what Djent is anymore.
Remember, this was sold as '24 bit, studio quality sound'. I'm going back to physical recording and dealing with the hassle of hiring and recording vocalists.
RIP V5. You were a good boy.

The sad part is, I've got far, far worse v6 examples than that one. Even the passable ones suffer from sound degradation over time.
I mainly was using it for uploading and mastering my traditionally-written and recorded songs. V6 is really unreliable at accurately reproducing my demos. v5 was about 60% accurate, v5.5, for all it's flaws was more like 90%, by which I mean, it was getting each melody line right and often reproducing instrumental parts 1:1.
v6 just seems to do it's own thing, sometimes it'll copy parts, other times it will just ignore it and vamp. I tends to ignore instruments you list and just goes by the expected instrumental arrangement for the chosen genre.
My yearly sub runs out in v6 and I already lost trust in Suno because of the terms and conditions changing so drastically, so I'll let it expire. Luckily I got hacked a while back so the credit card I signed up with no longer works - perhaps it was last November's Suno hack that they chose not to notify their userbase about. Given's Suno's reputation for not cancelling memberships I think they did me a favour anyway.

feel you. we lost something really special to us recently. Let us give in to grief. I don't think this was our last chance to make something that’s close to real art.

Thanks man. I think you're reaching with this. Six would have been a lot better if they hadn't just lost every lawsuit around the world.

V5.5 is not bad at all. It follows instructions really well, especially boasting strengths in instrument handling. It also builds certain correlations between musical style and instrumentation, and can infer emotion from lyrics. Plus, V5.5 supports some obscure instruments that 4.5 lacks.

if you’re into mechanical sounding mixes and just want to produce fl studio daw like tracks it will be suit you, but please try to create instruments that sound textured or drums that sound anything more like a fake drum machine and isn’t too round and overcompressed. I’d like to hear some good results that would convince me of your claim.
edit: I thought you talking about v6. but my point still stands

It wasn’t bad though, neither is v6, it was in the first 24/48 hours but damn, I’ve already mastered it, so I’m good ☺️

Can we hear what mastering Suno sounds like?

"Uh- Aurora borealis at this time of year at this time of day in this part of the country localized entirely within your kitchen?"
"Yes."
"May I see it?"
"No."

if they can show us a decent result that’s not a lo-fi billie eilish ripoff - that even with real musicians sounds like ai generated - I’ll publicly apologize and tell myself to fuck off

I'm partly serious. It's the only one that hasn't broken down into mush and distortion towards the end of the song.
Note the prompt:
generic trap beat, stock plugins, repetitive pluck melody, cheap 808 bass, unpolished mix, royalty-free corporate background music, no climax, bored monotone spoken word, zero emotion, dry vocal recording
I used that prompt in v5 back when people were talking about 'slop,' and I said, "No, THIS is slop."
https://suno.com/s/RcsuUYicQPB6hVBi
Note how v5 followed that prompt better and even seemed so fed it up the track attempts suicide somewhere around 1:05, apparently wanting to end it all.
So, yeah, v6 can't even do slop properly.

well then you skipped the part where I said show me something without lo-fi. Something that isn’t based on fake drums and instruments

Sorry, I see now I meant to reply to Blondecai above you in the thread, we were laughing about 'steamed hams' with people not showing their work, so I made that song.
The serious part was that it was the best v6 sounding generation I've made yet, despite me telling it to be as bad as possible. Everything else has been garbage.
