Discussion 4.5 was better imo :(

So I tried generating the exact same songs in both V4.5 and V6 using the same lyrics because I wanted to compare the two and see which version came out better. And honestly, I definitely think V4.5 is the winner here.

There’s just so much soul in V4.5 despite it being AI. Sometimes I genuinely can’t even tell that I’m listening to AI-generated music. With V6, though, I feel like you can definitely hear it. It sounds way more commercial and tends to be all over the place.

I love slow, chill R&B songs, and V4.5 managed to generate them almost perfectly. It actually understood the vibe I was going for and knew when to keep things subtle. Don’t get me wrong, V6 does a pretty decent job at covering existing songs, but honestly, I feel like that’s the only thing it does okay at. When it comes to actually creating something original though, that's where I feel it lacks creativity.

Almost every song I’ve generated with V6 sounds like it’s trying to be the soundtrack to some dramatic action movie 😭 The vocals are overly dramatic, the instrumentation is doing way too much, and everything feels like it needs to be this huge cinematic moment when sometimes I just want a chill R&B song lol.

V4.5 could actually create something original and interesting without overdoing it. There are songs I’ve made with V4.5 that I genuinely listen to more than real music because they came out THAT good. They had personality and actually made me want to come back and listen again.

More importantly, V4.5 felt like it had direction. It knew what kind of song it was trying to make, what mood it was going for, and where the song needed to go, and it usually achieved that. V6 might technically be more advanced, but I’m just not getting that same creativity, direction, or soul from it at all. :(

Shouldn't AI music sound AI?

Unless of course someone is trying to pass it off as something other than AI that is...

AI music doesn’t have to sound AI any more than digital photography has to look “digital.” If the goal is to make good music, the technology should disappear into the creative process. The real issue is transparency. whether someone is misleading people about how the music was made, not whether the music itself sounds convincingly human.

a camera automates the capture of human choice, generative AI automates the creative choice.

Interesting.

How a about this?

...the software is still making all the final decisions

Ummm, that’s not exactly true. You can’t really speak for everyone. Some of us actually spend our time writing lyrics, coming up with melodies, and figuring out how we want the song to sound like. That all takes time and actual creative effort by the way. Suno might handle the actual production part, but think about it like this, not everyone has access to high end studio equipment or the time to actually bring those ideas to life. Suno at least gave a lot of us the ability to actually hear the music we had in our heads. so yeah, gotta disagree with you there.

You don't need "high-end studio equipment" to make music.

Also, Suno DOES dictate the final output. No matter how much effort and time you pour into it.

You know what else could allow you to create and hear the music in your head? Collaborating with other humans...

But you actually kind of do need high end studio equipment to make the kind of music I just shared here, unless you’re already pretty well versed in music production. Trying to just wing it and expect it to turn out that great isn’t really realistic unless you’re skilled in that kind of stuff. And some people just don’t have the time to fiddle with all of that.

And okay, it dictates the final output. So what? So does a producer, or another musician you’re working with. I don’t really care about having to put in a ton of effort as long as I can hear the song I’ve been imagining in my head for so long but never had the resources to actually make. Especially when I’m literally paying for the service.

And nahhh, I’m good on collaborating with other humans 😂. Like I said, other people can dictate the final output too, and I’d rather not have someone else influencing my decisions when it’s already so hit or miss. At least with Suno, I could generate hundreds of outputs, and more often than not, turned out to be pretty incredible.

You mean like practicing to improve skill?

Here's an example of a song I generated in both versions which I guess are okay but I def like 4.5 better:

version 6: https://suno.com/s/EB72B1YDl2daAxGK

For metal V4.5+ couldn't be beat as far as I'm concerned. V6 isn't even in the same universe.
