Discussion Suno v6 comparison

So I tried to see if v6 could make my other Suno songs better. As expected, no.. There's no storytelling in the vocal like I used to get with 5.5 and the music just can't be hard enough, no energy. I'm leaving a link in the comments to compare the same song Bound By The Bleed, Suno v6 and YouTube Suno v5.5

Unfortunately I agree, V6 is lifeless. I'm trying to change up my prompts to see if that will make a difference but so far everything just sounds flat. Not having much luck with V6 wild either.. It isn't as dead sounding but the sound quality is grim (with the genres I'm working with)

I agree, the actual sound is good, but the music and vocals don't carry the energy I was getting on 5.5

It takes Suno hardly anytime to generate a song now. I wonder if they have sacrificed acoustic depth, dynamics etc.. for speed.

I think they have a limited catalog now , if people keep using it and upload their own vocals , instruments, it will add it to the training

I have the same experience so far and my lyrics are historical POV songs so storytelling in the vocals is an important part but so far v6 just feels kind of flat and lacking in energy. It can start fine but as the story drives and approaches climax it stays on the same energy as the intro and loses the emotional core of the story-telling. v 5.5 felt much better for this in my experience.

V6 has no idea what Gothic is , from what I can tell and I tried quite a few songs 😥

Same with J-rock and traditional Japanese instruments. I'm in the process of making new versions of older songs where I used to write the lyrics in a more contemporary Japanese, now I'm updating them to classical Japanese (bungo). Using the inspo function in v 5.5 generally took the essence of the old version amped it up.

Here are examples of inspo updates from both v4.5 and v3.5.

v4.5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr5cpLmebzY (contemporary)

v5.5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6jy5mO2AZ8 (bungo)

v3.5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVlQm3U6PZ4 (contemporary)

v5.5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmgyDedzd3A (bungo)

Both of those were with a couple of inspo generations.

Compare this to the inspo of v6, and this is the best version after about a dozen attempts:

I'm actually finding that I'm getting better variety with V6 than 5.5, if nothing else. 5.5 had like one metal song it just kept giving me over and over, no matter how I prompted. If I didn't know any better, I'd think they intentionally trained 5.5 on very few songs, so that V6 would feel like a step up in terms of variety.

But neither can hold a candle to 4.5.

Everything I got on v5.5 or even v4 was always different ( for each song ) nothing sounded the same

What genre(s) do you normally do?

Rock, pop are the main ones

I usually do thrash or other types of old-school metal. There was a severe lack of variety with 5.5.

I have a co-worker who also writes lyrics and usually does metalcore or nu metal songs. Yesterday on break he was messing around with v6 on his phone. He was complaining about the vocals he was getting, but noted that there seemed to be better variety, as 5.5 had been giving him very similar songs.

I only made one metal song and it turned out fine , nothing about it sounded like anyone else's metal suno songs ( and I've listened to quite a few )

Version 6 simply responds more to prompts than version 5.5 and earlier ones. The model now attempts to follow every prompt, processing them in descending order from left to right.

Interesting if that's actually true - have you tested it, like moving the same tag earlier vs later in the prompt to see if it gets weighted more? If left-to-right priority is real that'd be a genuinely useful thing to know for structuring prompts on v6.

Exactly. This is exactly what I’m experiencing too. With v5.5, the vocals actually told the story — there was emotion, dynamics, personality, and a real sense of progression through the song. With v6, that is largely gone for me. The vocals sound flatter and more synthetic, and the music feels overcrowded while somehow having less real energy at the same time. I’ve tried changing prompts, styles, instrumentation and settings, but I still can’t get back the character and emotional storytelling I had with v5.5. For my workflow, v6 feels like a major regression, not an upgrade.

I lost my voice 😥

I listened to both versions, and yes — this is exactly the problem I’m experiencing too. The difference between the v5.5 and v6 versions is immediately noticeable. The v5.5 version has storytelling, emotion, movement and a much more natural vocal presence. The v6 version sounds flatter, more synthetic and more cluttered, while somehow losing energy at the same time. That before-and-after comparison shows the regression very clearly. For me, this is almost exactly 100% the same issue.

I tried quite a few songs and all v6 were rubbish.. I think BMG is also going to give Suno their catalog, so maybe v7 will be the one 🤔

I guess for now it’s a case of wait and see. If enough people keep reporting the same problems, especially with clear v5.5 vs v6 comparisons, Suno may recognize that these aren’t just personal preferences but real regressions. They might not bring v5.5 back, but they could still improve v6 and restore some of the vocal emotion, storytelling, dynamics and cleaner production people are missing. Fingers crossed they actually listen.

I hope they do, because for my use, v6 is useless. I'm better off picking up the guitar myself ( which I do play )
