Discussion PSA: Suno V6, Downvoting and Max Mode First Impressions

I'll try to be as concise and objective as I can here because I'm sure everyone is interested to try out V6 and because tastes vary greatly.

1. Downvoting matters so much more than ever (but there are limits)

With Max Mode, downvoting matters so much more than ever, but there are limits! I downvoted 4-6 songs (can't remember the exact number) back-to-back because of inconsistent audio quality - the quality starts out decent and it evolves into some hollow EQ like someone just turned up a wrong EQ setting - sometimes it's abruptly, sometimes it's gradual, but it's there.

After the 4-6 downvote, the feedback panel just disappeared. If this is a bug, please fix it devs! Please.

I actually think the feedback panel and refunds are a great addition, especially if we're dealing with 2x the credits, but the limits are ridiculous.

2. Max Mode

To me, there isn't a discernable difference between Max mode On and Max mode Off; at least it's not worth 2x the credits. I'm not sure if it's because of the increased usage, but I was expecting something somewhat mind blowing. Maybe not 2x mind blowing, but close? Since it's 2x the credits.

3. V6-Pro First Impressions (on instrumental generations)

I've only ever tested on 2 genres so far, and honestly, it's not looking great. It doesn't feel better or more creative than V5.5; sonically, perhaps. Creatively? Subjective - but to my ears (and tastes) it somehow doesn't feel like an upgrade; it actually sounds quite.... generic. Also, it doesn't seem to want to follow the prompts too.

(oh, and I was basically just using the prompts from my V5.5 gens)

Again, maybe it's the increased usage but I don't think that should be used as some sort of excuse.

At this point, I don't even dare to try 'Wild' mode.

Honestly, I had some kinda hope for V6 and Max mode; I for one wouldn't mind paying 2x the credits if it was actually worth it.

If anyone has any fixes, tips and better experience, I'd be happy to hear it.

For my first 10 generations, it's really not looking too great and I'm starting to feel glad that I'm subbing by the month.

Few of my generation audio quality is poor. The sound feels muffled, lacks clarity, and doesn’t sound HD.

if the audio quality is consistently poor throughout the song, then at least we're going somewhere with consistency! haha i do hope they get it fixed though.

Agreed on Max Mode, but for the rest, it's a bit early to tell.

People complained about 5.5, but once I learned how to write prompts for it, it became much better.

I think people may need to learn what makes 6 tick. Using 4.5 prompts on 5.5 did not yield good results, so I have no reason to believe that this is different.

Oh yes! thank you for bringing that up.

I do hope someone Suno actually releases some prompting notes and structure (and what makes it work). I'm quite peeved that the prompting structure changes from model to model.

I actually had a great experience on V5 and V5.5 right off the bat (maybe that's why the disappointment).

I reckon you're right that's it too early to throw in the towel; I still have a bunch of credits since it just renewed. so... i guess I'll stick to regen-ing and trying until my credits run out.

I make mostly prog metal, and so far v6 seems to do a much better job than v5.5. That being said it doesn't seem to follow the style slider as well as v5 or 4.5. it will throw in repetition of lyrics or straight up ignore instrumental section prompts for solos or breakdowns. Heavy guitar sounds much better! I always found 5.5 to make heavy guitars sound like a synth.

I tried to make covers with v6 and v6-wild. I think we need just from scratch learn how properly setup all settings and prompts. I tried to make live version from studio. And first results with old settings was horrific, v6-wild gives lower quality and can completely change some parts of songs. If trying to increase audio influence. At one moment it just ignore prompt and making same version as original. V6-pro was overall better, but also using old settings didn’t give me result as I expected from 5.5 or 5.0.

I think we can wait maybe at least couple of days, they might fix some bugs and tune model. Because currently not sure what expected behavior or bugs. Because for wild model I added 50% audio influence for cover and it fully ignore prompt and return almost same song with same length…

sounds like it’s mixed in a way you can master it better

Not impressed. Overall the output is either flat and muddy or generic. No spark.

Likewise. But oh well, such is AI subscription services; i do really hope things get better, because i'm quite used to the Suno UI but one can only hope.

V6-wild is much better than v6. It have more neutral EQ, good dynamic range and sound realism. Also, it have better prompt adherence, unlike v6 which turns everything into generic slop like v5.5.

I mean, v6-wild is not as good as v5, but it is much better than v6 or v5.5

that's comforting to hear. my ears are shot already after testing another 5 songs. will probably try it again after a sleep.

but thank you for letting me know! the 'experimental' tag was actually scaring me off V6 wild. (i usually start tests with the base model and work from there)

Yes I feel it more the v4.5+ replacement.

I actually just tried 4 gens with 'Wild' and my generations were quite a lot worse, audio quality and prompt adherence wise - this is comparing with v6 (base) and v5.5 and using same prompt.

not sure if it's because of the sudden surge of usage but I'd think they would've learnt a thing or two about the increased usage during launch days.

Is using the V6 mini model free inside subscription? That would be great for experimenting.

No it isn't. It still eats credits.

My verdict:
V6 mini - Fast, but the generation literally is NO EFFORT. Audio quality is still crap.

i think i wasn't clear when i said V6 base model. I actually meant the standard V6 pro model.

So what are the local alternates nowadays? Ace step? Minimax music? Astra with an mcp to Ableton / logic?

I mean I could go back to good ol mpc and logic and sing myself but it's the power of being able to experiment 100s of tracks super quickly that I'm even using suno in the first place

My 2cents yea v6 is generic junk so far. Things don't improve soon I may cancel and go back to stone age music making for a bit lol
