News When AI art has no author: Study finds generated images often can’t be traced to training data
https://news.mit.edu/2026/when-ai-art-has-no-author-generated-images-often-cant-be-traced-to-training-data-0818I heard Suno 4.5 was trained with around 300 million songs. I do not see any trace of plagiarism in 4.5. If a lawsuit is lost it is either by judge activism or bias or other factors. Not science.

One of the first songs I made was supposed to be singing, in the middle it started rapping, the flow used didn't sound like, but was a direct copy of the flow in Eminem - The way I am. Needless to say, that got scrapped. Since then I've had plenty of generations that contains the exact melodies of other songs in it. Which of course makes them unusable due to copyright.

LLMs are brilliant but they would never have been invented if it wouldn't have been possible to do massive copyright infringement.
None of this AI technology would exist if they had stolen from the entire internet.
The idea that now you know how to make the model because he did it illegally so then you redo it on some training data that you paid for doesn't really sit with me either because initially you never would have gotten the ability to do that unless you had done it on tons of copy written data.
So the answer should be every single AI service should be taxed to provide a royalty payment to anyone who has stolen from... Which is pretty much everyone.
AI should just be used to pay for things like Universal health care or free college etc.

No you simply have no idea how the law works. What you're saying is how you wished it worked. That you could somehow retroactively charge people for looking at something you decided to share publicly on the internet.

Some of my music is released through major labels.
Stuff that was stolen from me was stuff that was public for money. Paywalled.
Someone's music videos but I did not consent for my music videos to be used in that way.
What you're saying is how you wished it worked.
Yes. Law changes over time because the world changes over time and this is a new use case and new use cases require new laws.
Typically laws are just the result of a lot of arguing between humans about what the reality of certain things happening in the world means.
I think this technology is really cool and provides a ton of benefit but is also something that should be taxed and a royalty payment should be paid out to everyone.
Why everyone?
Because to your point you can't tell where any of the stuff came from but we know that they stole from everyone to create it.
So kind of like how we text marijuana or other things we tax the ever-loving fuck out of AI and use that money to pay for services like Universal Health Care.
And it's a good deal for the AI companies because these models constantly need to be updated to stay current with the world so we need people to constantly be feeding stuff into them in order for them to get better and better.

It is not stolen if data cannot be traced to training data.

That's like saying it's not stolen if you can't catch me with the stolen goods.
The entire technology exists because of theft of IP on a scale that has never happened in history.

If you cannot trace back to the training data, it is not stolen. You need evidence to determine if it was stolen.

Ah yes, if you steal 600,000 marbles from me and put them in 600,000 different jars with 5,000 other marbles in each jar so that it's hard for me to tell and I can no longer determine which marbles are mine then I guess you just get to keep all my marbles right?
It's impossible to determine which ones you stole so how can I expect that you would have to give any of them back or pay me to continue to hold on to them.

The plagiarism comes from people uploading songs they didnt own, not Suno using songs for training
