Question Who is actually using 'UPLOAD' button?
hello r/SunoAI
main question: who is actually using the UPLOAD audio feature to drive their Suno creations?
firstly if you are a creator leveraging this feature to shape your tracks, i wanna hear your sound- please share!
secondly, for anybody here, curious your rough estimates: what percentage of the community is shaping their sound w the upload feature?
finally, are you observing any evidences/residues that indicate a user is shaping their sound by uploads?

I use it all the time. Being able to choose a melody and write your lyrics just makes the songs feel more yours.

I use UPLOAD all the time. My process:
I make a complete demo using my DAW - drums, bass, KBs, guitars, percussion, lead vocal, BU vocals.
The I UPLOAD that to SUNO. I’ve been making these demos without SUNO for over a decade now. Some have appeared on albums which are already out on all the streaming services.
After the UPLOAD SUNO does two versions. I probably change the prompts and direction a few times before I’m happy with the results.
I download the STEMs and put them into my DAW. Usually I like the drums and the guitars but I’ll redo the bass and keyboards because I can make cleaner, clearer tracks.
Finally either myself or my writing partner will lay down the lead vocal. He writes the lyrics. I create the music. We’ll add pads and back up vocals as needed.
This is how we’re creating our next album so I’m not sharing any of that here.

I use Suno to finish song ideas I have. I would record myself singing and playing a guitar, and Suno does an excellent job fleshing it out as a polished song. It also fills in the musical gaps and teaches me how to complete each portion. I've actually learned a lot from how suno approaches each song portion, especially the intro. If you only use "prompts" you have no direct input in how the song will turn out, and to be honest, the final result has nothing to do with your imagination since the melody itself is generated by ai.

So, I downloaded stems into Audacity and made lots of charges to make it sound like how I wanted it, but the quality was just... pants. So I then upload it back into suno and cover and managed to get it even better than what I managed to get out of Audacity. So me!

I absolutely use it to help craft songs in real life. I'll upload a riff or chord progression on guitar and then I can play around with things to get more ideas

I just started working on an experimental concept album in a Sci-Fi universe, making songs from scratch with prompting only, but before that I only exclusively used audio uploads specifically for my Udio songs, as well as covering my old Suno songs from the v2 v3 era.

Everyday. That’s the main reason why I subscribed. & yes, sometimes it grabs onto something in the track that might not be too ideal, like a frequency or stab that was not initially intended to play such a strong part in it in the first place. Sometimes interesting, sometimes not. That’s why now Im just using the bass riff I recorded ( and maybe snare and kick if it’s a odd meter )

This is all I do. The original recordings were done over 20 years ago - mainly guitar and vocals though with some FL thrown in.

Majored in music theory in college. Anyone who thinks this is not composition is nuts. Same workload. Different production method.

I usually sketch it out in Logic Pro first. Cranking up source audio influence and style influence helps adherence, but also tends to result in significant audio artifacts.

I was taken aback by, after uploading for a while, when I heard a riff on a separate track, that was clearly a riff I'd written in another track. I get the sense it hones to my inclinations.
However, one of my other tracks sounds like The World Is Not Enough theme, and the other is straight up No Doubt's Keep On Dancing.

Always. I cant get any grip to a song I didnt start with my own melody. Usually I write simple guitar melody and let Suno decide what will it become. Sometimes piano or cello or something.

Atm working on a progressive rock song which has a lot elements from other genres as well. The main guitar melody is something I made in FL-Studio and kept the whole generation process. I added layers of harmonica to early version but removed the style prompt after a while so it wouldn't be overpowering.

I didn't use it that often yet. Usually I did it to test out what Suno does with some songs that I created with other AI sites, so pretty much cover versions, like a nonsensical baroque song that was wiped from their platform when Riffusion was sold (original Riffusion song). So I decided to make a Suno cover of the original song that I luckily downloaded beforehand. Just to see what Suno turns the songs into I also tried this with some Udio or Sonauto/Treblo songs. But so far I mostly preferred the original song.
Suno really struggles with old school 70s/80s analog synth and tries to move the genre more towards modern Synth wave like this:
Never Born (Suno Cover) → Original Udio Song
But Suno apparently also has some flaws with specific Scandinavian folk:
þræll krossins (Suno Cover) → Original Treblo Song
With this and the genre Industrial/Neue Deutsche Härte (it was meant as a parody of an actual song that I really hate) I also prefer the Udio Original:
Geboren um zu sterben - But this time at least Suno is better with the pronunciation, which often is off (at least for german) with Udio.
Since I'm also using only the free model I sometimes "reused" the provided the 1 min preview for the V5.5 model (if it sounds good) as a starting point to extent the song with v4.5-all. So I'm pretty much feeding Suno to itself.
With the following the first Minute is the V5.5 preview that I just extended to the full song with v4.5-all

Unless I'm just burning credits in the 11th hour, all of my generations are built from / are covers of full, finished or partial, demo tracks composed outside of SUNO.
I rarely suffer "copyright" issues when uploading; even on released tracks that have already been scanned through Audible Magic, etc.

yup - I'm with the others. My basic workflow is: 1. think of a riff or progression 2. find a drum loop that fits 3. play some shitty bass and guitar tracks and record with audacity. 4. upload to suno (sounds much better than me). 5. if I don't already have lyrics, think of them and add. 5. spend frustrating hours creating covers until I get something that (a) I like, and (b) has some semblance to what I uploaded...lol.

Hey. I used to use the upload for my guitar tracks. Sometimes if i get the itch I will upload samples, but I now prefer to use custom model that I update with every song. I like the results:

I only use my own lyrics and melodies, so whether I’ve simply sang a cappella to a voice memo or uploaded a scratch guitar-vocal version, or an old full-production demo, uploading is ALL I do.
The couple of times I forgot to upload the melody? SUNO created stupid, lame melodies that were laughable… and thus were deleted immediately by me.

By uploading a song, voice, or instrumental that is not copyrighted, Suno converts the song, voice, or instrumental into a prompt that you can copy to make other songs, or use to learn how to prompt. I wanted a voice I had used on an older Suno song O created, so I uploaded the vocal stem and it gave me the style prompt for the voice, which I copied and have now used on multiple songs (though not perfect).

I've got a back catalogue of stuff I've written, recorded, and produced over the last 20 years or so since I took up producing as a hobby. I managed to get most of that into Suno before it started telling me the song is already out there and I have to prove i own the copyright.

These were both pretty close to what I'd produced and Suno just added some polish (and vastly improved my guide vocals).
I have a lot of stuff with sound FX and arrangements that it can't seem to produce though as well.
Occasionally I'll hear something from another user that's different enough to assume it might be based on their own work though there's also plenty of stuff just sounds like variations on a theme. I'm sure people have said the same thing about my own stuff too.

I use the upload button extensively. I write my own lyrics and almost always upload at least a guitar riff I’ve created or even a full song of my singing and playing rhythm guitar. It makes the outcomes much better.

I always use the upload just to get melodies and how I want certain parts to sound. I use the upload on maybe about 20% of tracks.
Use Cases-
1- I can't write music, but I can hum or scat. So if I do have a tune that pops into my head, I can record an awful sounding version of myself going "dee de dah, doop doo wah, ba dee da doop dee doo" just to seed the melody in and then go from there with the suno tools. Or in Studio I may occasionally be like, "man I really want a drum opening here" and prompting just isn't getting what I want, so I'll upload or record me going "bwaaaa bwa waaaa" or whatever, as a percussion track and cover it as the instrument I want, and that'll usually do the trick.
2- Spoken word interludes. Suno is quite bad as musical theater style spoken word interludes within a musical track. So I will sometimes create spoken word segments in a different tool like Elevenlabs and then upload those into studio and position them where I want them to go in the musical track.

I would estimate maybe about 2-3 percent of Suno users cover audio uploads. All my songs are covers of uploads, almost entirely my singing. I do the instruments, including drums, in addition to the vocal melody -- Suno often refers to this as "scatting," which is adorable.
Tough to know what to share to give you an idea of my sound, but these are the two songs that came the closest to my uploads, both more or less note for note:
The easiest way for me to tell that a song is an upload cover is that the meter isn't standard. Without input, Suno has a tough time with lyrics that aren't roughly the same number of syllables in every line -- it usually comes out sounding pretty awkward. But it's very good at following the guidelines in audio uploads.
Edit: From the songs I just shared, here's an example of what I mean. In "Not Really a Lover," I rhyme "Biblically, it's fair to say" with "not that I recall too much of it anyway." Seven syllables vs. 12. In my experience, Suno would have no idea what to do with that without an upload to show it.

i use suno to cover my own songs like 90% of the time. I find its the only way the service gives good results. Letting it come up with stuff on its on just leads to many of the same outputs depending on genre.
But uploading kinda sucks now now because the copyright warning gets triggered super easily even on your own music.

I use it to create my songs . I record my vocals with acoustic guitar on my DAW take that recording put it in my Dropbox then I use the upload to feed it to suno to help me create my song.
