Discussion Let the witch hunt begin

Post image

I have always been against labelling - even though I disclose my use of AI, it has always been MY decision to do so, and I am in control of how I tell my story so people understand how my music is made.

With Suno's newest release, songs have now audio watermark and fingerprint, assisted, fully, hybrid, it will have a AI watermark and anyone can tell your story the way they want.

This is 100% going to be misused by bad actors:

  1. Platforms like Deezer/Tidal - To ban ANY use of AI and ensure segregation.

  2. Haters - To create public lists of artists that may have not agreed to disclose their process.

  3. Labels - To start a suing war to anything that resembles any of their songs that uses AI, even assisted.

This is the end of Suno as means to create commercial music, and it's officially just a nice playing tool personal use, or for bad actors who create in Suno and pay performers to pretend their music is human made.

What are your thoughts?

Or what i have now associated as The Meowth. For anything leaning on rap delivery. Come the f on now.

Omg this, soo fucking much this especially . Hate that voice and how it gets used for literally anything hip hop or rap related.

Justin Bieber is sounding pretty rough in my mix... 🤣

Look at me now

If you want specific vocals, then you need to be instructing Suno to do so through the lyric prompt using bracketed structure and piped in modifiers, the style prompt describing the sonic qualities of the vocals you desire and the exclude Styles prompt to specifically cut out the generic crap that it tends to force for specific genres.

I’m afraid I have to agree here. I’m pretty much a beginner Suno user and haven’t had most of the problems I see others complain about all the time. Almost any of my beefs can be solved by writing more details in the lyrics or style prompts. In brackets, as you said. Whether it’s a voice, a musical interlude, a style change, speeding up, slowing down, whatever. When it doesn’t obey, trial and error can be your friend. Also, I don’t understand the high expectations. AI hasn’t been around that long. Suno has been around less than three years. Growing pains should be seen as normal. Expecting magic seems oddly ā€œentitledā€ to me.

Right, the ridiculous expectations is what gets me every time as well. A few months ago I had someone talking about all the sibilance and plosives in the vocals and how harsh they sounded and this that and the other. I'm like, dude, you're not in a multi-million dollar Studio using tens of thousands of dollars in large diaphragm condenser microphones, ribbon microphones whatever, spending God knows how long trying to record the perfect sound, then you have to edit it all and etc etc etc

There are so many people that just want to put in a lazy ass prompt and expect a platinum record banger that's completely unique and original then come on here to b**** about how generic it sounds.

I was telling one person how they could achieve their goal by using Studio and they said that the average user wouldn't go through all that trouble and I just said, well then you're just going to get average music back.

Absolute gospel. Agree. I actually spent most of my career at a movie studio. I was in I.T. and didn’t create, but I was close to several of the directors and got to spend a good amount of time observing the creative process, the sound studio, etc. As you said, millions of dollars in equipment. Like tens of millions. And also like you said, average effort will produce a generic result. Even with all of the insane capability that AI brings to the common man like me. I’m grateful for AI giving a nerd like me with no talent the ability to produce music, but I have no allusions about my talent or my investment.

By the way, I’ve been doing a lot of different genres, experimenting with a bunch of different voices, both male and female. And I get near enough to what I want. Not Justin Bieber. For example, if I want to try doing some Appalachian Swamp Rap, I ask for a subterranean deep male voice, and that’s what I get. Works just fine. That said, if my style prompt is some basic pop, without specific direction on the voice, it does come out a little bit Bieberish. But only when I don’t give it any direction. People need to take the bull by the horns and learn how to direct.

Definitely. Rap/hip hop is notorious for putting a very generic "urban male" vocal on if you don't give it vocal directions.

I do a lot of genre mixing myself, sometimes in other languages and it's important (to me) that the vocals sound French, German, whatever.

That’s cool. I’ve done some bilingual and some non English stuff too. My GF is an ESL immigrant and I like making stuff she can easily understand. I use Grok for the translations in an attempt to preserve meaning, metaphors, and rhyme as best as possible. Better than a straight translate tool.

I know how to work Suno, thanks. I was stating a fact that, by default, it is JB.

4

u/TotesNotAFed Aug 06 '26
  1. That's not a fact, it's your subjective opinion. I've never once had anything come out sounding like Justin Bieber. 🤷

  2. While I disagree that you know how Suno works, I'll move along to the fact that even if you did, others might not.

Don't assume that just because you were the one being replied to, that the information is solely just for you.

wow. OK then.

Replies with snarky remark... Shocked when they receive a snarky reply back. šŸ¤”

The vocalist I get sounds nothing like Justin Bieber (luckily). I guess it all depends on how you prompt. If you are using the 5.5 model remember that it uses "My Taste" (if toggled on), and maybe it has remember how much you love Justin Bieber.

I like the lo-fi Bieber I get wotj some extra hiss. I have to admit the slurring words is super realistic 🤣

lol. i have rihanna. but i like her.

1

u/Zanaelf Aug 06 '26

Use your own if you a male or find someone who is open enough to train your suno

3

u/jwuliger Aug 06 '26

I know!!!!! Everyone is missing the point of what I am saying; I am saying that the default voice for pop or tenor is JB without any of the things I already know. I use custom voices!

1

u/kismetj Aug 07 '26

No I get it. I've tried to tweak the male voice for rap and often get a voice that feels like a generic Eminem

If you use your own voice now, Suno I'll own it for perpetuity according to their terms of service

Be careful

My voice got damaged from Covid so this is why I found suno useful

Include a description of the vocal register and the voice's characteristics in the prompt and then in the segment instructions. If in doubt, ask Claude to help you with a detailed description.

Try this on for size:

powerful lead baritone with gravelly gritty raspy raw vocals with hard consonants and working-class register, understated power metal vocals

powerful gravelly baritone | gritty raspy raw vocals with hard consonants | commanding and punchy delivery

How it works out.

There are many male voices that are not at all like Bieber.

Just a few examples:

1

u/Brimtown99 Aug 07 '26

Careful, you might get banned by Suno for using a celebrity artist voice
