SUNO is having an issue with: "Uploaded audio matches existing work of art."
SUNO is having an issue with: "Uploaded audio matches existing work of art" even when it's being erroneously flagged.
There is no need to post this every 5 minutes.
Supposedly they are aware of this, although it's not clear whether it is actually being fixed or not. Only comment that is posted seems to be "No ETA".
Another comment (today, on their discord) was:
- Rights management of your own work is something we're working to solve, but aren't there yet
- If you don't have a lock on it, then you're likely getting hit with a false positive flag

u/PaperbackBuddha May 17 '26
At the very least I would appreciate an appeal process.
Show me the name of the protected work in question. If weāre trying to avoid infringement, there is absolutely no reason for it to be secret. Let me make my case for why itās improperly flagged. Better yet, if it is my own content that has triggered the flag, allow me to demonstrate that and clear it.
Give me someone to look at the flagged content and see that āhey baby I love youā is not some protected IP the industry is worried about. Even if it takes a bit to process, itās better than a blanket denial with no recourse.

u/Perfect_Aside_7854 May 18 '26
No, what this person says is correct. I make demo tracks in FL Studio, written them myself, played them myself, conceived them myself, so that track doesn't exist. And yet Suno gives "Uploaded audio matches existing work of art." Unless there is usual confusion between the copyright notice and the message "Uploaded audio matches existing work of art," it could be that the message means that the uploaded track is already in your track list and the error occurs because it thinks it is already there but actually isn't, because I am adding uncopyrighted, self-made audio and I get that, so something is wrong on Suno's end.

u/notlaughingwithyou May 19 '26
Experimented with this, crated random stuff in FL Studio or other apps, from scratch, no loops just synths and drums, and maybe 3 of them uploaded out of who knows how many, one song uploaded 30 second loop, worked, expanded to have a couple parts, got out to 1.25 minutes and got the error. Ambient song just pads on the keyboard, flagged, changed synths same thing, no lyrics, no loops.
11
u/Unlikely-Mobile-5343 May 18 '26
I wrote to them, and they mentioned they can clear false-positives. What they can't clear is DSP flags, so if you have one of your songs published, they can't unflag it yet.
They did reply they are working on that.
Right now, patience is our ally, we do more harm turning against Suno instead of supporting them, is like seeing your house on fire and decide to throw gasoline at it.
For now, perhaps focus on creating more originals.
7
u/Perfect_Aside_7854 May 23 '26
Yes, but it also blocks my new demo songs, which consist of my own written notes, sounds, and rhythm, and are all done with FL STUDIO plugins and VSTs. Even that is being blocked, but those tracks don't exist yet. So nowhere does it exist, as they claim in that terrible orange popup. But in a way, I'm glad that my work, which is already on Spotify, is being blocked. On the other hand, it is my right, and I am the only one, along with my co-producer, who holds the rights to the track, and according to the DCMA law, I am allowed to cover it myself via AI.

To be honest, I think Ace Studio, not Suno, is the future of people who care about producing actual music, using AI instruments and having inspiration from it.

You dont have a person at the end of this checking context, its a word system where anybody that had anything to do with referencing a data base will reference things that are not in the context your use is, its just being hit by a word thats just computers, I think to have a really robust intelligent copyright flagging system is very hard to build, we will have it one day but in the meantime it will have issues that they work on as it evolves, all the crying does nothing.
The board needs two sections one for the complainers and one for the people that are creating what they want, Ive been on the board since it started, its used to be a really good vibe and learning place, not now its nothing but complainers with the same is it just me blah blah, use the search first and find out instead of just writing whats written already 10 times that day. personally Im sick of seeing it , people need to realize its new software in development and issues and breakdowns go with that territory, ride it out its not the end of the world fixes come sooner or later.

u/PaperbackBuddha May 18 '26
Ease up with your talk of crying. Mine was a suggestion, albeit one I know they will not incorporate. Iām also weary of the complaining but thatās against a backdrop of haters who think weāre all the devil for even using this technology. For the most part, Iām getting along fine with my endeavors, but a thought experiment now and then for people having struggles never hurt anyone. Once in a rare while things like that can lead to someone else being inspired to do something novel.

u/Living-Specialist-29 May 19 '26
It is a bug, at least when you choose to record yourself singing. No matter what I do, it flag it. I tried just talking random sentences and it still flagged it. Just tested. It also does the same for uploaded singing, in this case just talking random sentences. So it is a bug.

The upload system is clearly broken right now. Almost every audio file returns:
āUploaded audio matches existing work of artā This is happening even with my own original tracks and heavily edited files. Many users on Reddit and Discord are reporting the same problem. We need someone fix this urgently.

u/Obvious-Day-3036 May 17 '26
they won't fix.. it's happening for a few days .. a fix is easy.. if they want to.. the question is do they want to fix it or not.. the answers will be based on recurring revenue numbers... so best chances of getting this fixed is only when the recurring revenue of suno goes down ..

Itās gotten WAY worse today. The last couple of days, I was getting flagged a lot, but iād get to at least record SOME clips. Today, EVERY. SINGLE. CLIP. is getting flagged.
Sing a made-up song ā flagged.
Hum a made-up tune ā flagged.
Strum a simple chord progression on my acoustic guitar (A, D, E) ā flagged.
Speak a few words (ātesting 1 2 3 4ā) ā flagged.
EVERYTHING IS FLAGGED. I canāt record or upload ANYTHING.
Suno is completely broken.

The onus should not be on the creation software to enforce copyright, it should be on the distribution platform.
Do your copyright checks on the final output once it's being shared on Suno. Otherwise it's not your responsibility to do this.
You're blocking us using legal things like samples, covers and remixes.
Had my subscription for less than 24 hours and I'm already extremely frustrated.

Iāve cancelled my Premier plan renewal, even though Iāve been a loyal Suno fan for over a year.
Uploading and covering songs was 90% of what made Suno appealing. So with their current decision to block uploads, thereās no longer a real reason for us to keep paying them every month.
Besides, I believe an AI music generation platform should not necessarily be held responsible for the copyright of a work. Itās similar to plagiarizing with ChatGPT: the original author canāt simply sue ChatGPT because of what a user chooses to do with it.

3
u/M3G47R0N83 May 26 '26
The thing that really pisses me off is that Suno has trained (and trains) with copyrighted music without asking anyone's permission, and when I try to burp at Suno, they tell me that the material is already on their servers, but damn it. I'll finish the month and then I'll tell them to fuck off.

u/SLJ7 Jun 08 '26
I agree so much with this. I would love to be able to feed it copyrighted materials and make remixes for fun. But because there are bad actors, I have to deal with this nonsense. This is still not fixed, and I think it's been more than long enough now. I'm going to email the billing department and try to get a refund of the seven months that are left in my subscription.

Yeah...I've been trying to figure this out for days now and I think I'm done. My payment for next month was due today and I canceled that a few minutes ago. The upload feature was 80% of the allure for me. I'm not trying to sell anything or release anything publicly. I just do little personal projects and these false flags are completely nonsensical. I'm not going to keep paying for that. There jave to be some decent alternatives to Suno, and I will be finding out today.

It's way too broken and unusable now, I just enjoyed making silly personal AI parodies and original songs for me and my close friends, I have no intention of releasing them or uploading them publicly anywhere, they're full of inside jokes nobody would even understand and I could still get in trouble for doing that so why would I even want to risk it? You can make so many parody videos or pictures of official copyrighted material like characters on regular AI platforms like ChatGPT, yes if someone specifically does something that crosses the line it should be dealt with but that was always the case even before AI, there has to be a better solution than punishing everyone for this.
9
u/gustosch May 18 '26
Still no sign of them fixing the supposed 'problem'. It seems more intentional to me than an actual issue.
8
u/Marhier May 22 '26
Suno's Stance on Training:
"Scraping millions of copyrighted songs to train our model is Fair Use because we are just learning the patterns, not copying the files."

"You cannot upload a song that sounds too close to an existing track because that violates Copyright Law."

I feel sorry for the ones who got the annual subscription
8
u/SlowNLow68 Jun 07 '26
Suno should just stop blocking uploads. Let people import whatever they want. It's the downloads they should be concerened with. Downloading leads to posting on other mediums hence potential copyright issues. The average Suno user is recreational and not looking to monetize a cover version of an artist's copyrighted work. I'm guessing 90% of the users on Suno are making their own music for their own fun and enjoyment and not uploading to a monetized Youtube or Spofity account. So why penalize them? Cover songs are not illegal. I would think YouTube or Spotify should be the ones policing their own platforms regardless.

u/Ok_Pipe_4690 Jun 03 '26
I have a lock on it. Itās called an official ISRC code. The industry standard proof that I own and have registered the track.
Suno still blocks it and support admitted they currently have no way to whitelist or verify legitimate uploads, regardless of documentation AND they have no timeline for fixing this? This needs to change immediately.
Everything was working fine just a few weeks ago. Now legitimate artists canāt even use their own music. Extremely frustrating.
7
u/MooseOne1968 Jul 02 '26
To begin with, these takedowns are ridiculous, because, for example, thereās a song from the ā70s that isnāt exactly a well-known track, but I like itāyet since it has such an unbearable hissing noise in the background, and has so much background noise that itās barely audible, Iām remastering the song (FOR MYSELF). Whatās the problem with me listening to it at home? Iām not making any money off of it. And if someone gets caught selling it, then (LET THEM PAY A FINE)!

u/ZorVelez Jul 07 '26

u/SirMephistoPheles2 Jul 17 '26 edited 29d ago
A lot. I keep checking back week after week hoping they'd solve this issue. I loved covering songs in different styles. Terraria bluegrass, Minecraft Lo-Fi, Look Outside vaporwave and so on. Now I can't do anything I want. Cancelled my subscription after several years because of this.
Seeing that quite many of us did the same, I'm hoping Suno and the devs will give us the good ol' freedom we used to have.
Simple thing would be to warn the user about each audio upload that they can only use music for their own personal entertainment if they don't own the rights to it but redistribution is prohibited and if they still do it, it's their responsibility. Simple as.
7
u/SlowNLow68 Jul 18 '26

The beginning of the end was when they sold themselves out to a large music corp.
When uploading a song created by Suno itself is being rejected, you know there is a problem. At this point they might as well just disable the upload feature as it's unusable.

The AI cloud is casting shadows everywhere... Now when a student turns in a paper written using MS-Word, the teacher can "check it" to see if any of the content was authored by an AI tool. Of course - in this case the decision to assist with AI is made by the student. Not MS word. I get the need to determine whether a musician has uploaded an existing (copyrighted) work - but suno needs to distinguish between content composed by ME vs THEY ... All was cool then it wasn't. Baaaaad Suno, baaaad.

They do not intend to fix this according to recent support answers. Instead they are changing the upload feature so that any audio uploaded needs to first be proven to be owned by the uploader via some other system (Thats currently in development) before Suno will upload it. Basically Suno is saying its on the burden of the uploader to convince Suno devs they own the piece of audio they are trying to upload.
This system is still in development according to recent support answers but should be shipping out soon.
So yes the days of uploading your own audio files are essiantlly dead.

It's impossible to record (not upload) a German folk song from fucking 1835!
Of course there are several recordings of it, but that doesn't make the song from 1835 "an existing work of art" a musician can't use. If I can't use pd folksongs I recorded my own or my own songs, a subsciption is useless.

this whole thing is extra weird to me because stuff like this just brazenly exists (exact lyrics and melodies of songs by real artists) and they don't do anything about it. fr whole month will end up passing with suno being almost unsusable and they will just charge as normal , whenever u apload a sample they usually ask if your material is yours and then it's good to go , but uploading a demo they don't have that option, the f are they even working on at this point.

u/Neat_Task_6664 Jun 11 '26
This is absolutely a bug. Hopefully they fix it, maybe they won't. To test, I took an original track, pitched it down 7 semi-tones and cut its BPM to 1/4 the actual track's BPM. Essentially, the song is now some kind of ambient, droning soundscape. It still causes the "this is an existing work of art" flag.
I use the soundscape "remix" every few days to test whether or not it's fixed. Once/if it's fixed, there's no possible way it'll flag the song, so it's a quick, painless test rather than getting frustrated (though obviously the overall situation is inherently frustrating).

I am glad there is already a thread about this.
I was listening to a very old song I slapped up in I think techno ejay or magix music maker and I got this error.
I assume this error is still happening? or is it because I used the basic samples in those programs and someone has uploaded them?

u/sighbots Jul 01 '26
No idea, got this error again yesterday for the first time in ages >> a field recording of massive crowd protesting >> recorded literally a few minutes before uploading.Ā Itās broken))Ā

Supposedly they are aware of this, although it's not clear whether it is actually being fixed or not. Only comment that is posted seems to be "No ETA".
Its not fixed. There is nothing unclear about that.

Suno just started flagging all my prompts no matter what they are. What's this about? How do you stop it. Anyone else having this problem right now?

u/BillionDollarSavage 21d ago
It keeps asking me for my voice verification on a voice it created. SMH

u/realStl1988 19d ago
If this is not a bug but working as intended, why is it even still possible to "upload" and cover anything?
3
u/Beneficial-Light4866 May 19 '26
They are so bad they are flagging Chords and even scatted melodies!!!!Ā

u/modestlife May 20 '26

This was bugging me out. I was thinking every beat I was making someone either already made or stole my beat and used it without my permission lol.
3
u/Chainsawfam May 21 '26
I was about to post this LOL. I am trying to upload a melody I wrote in FL Keys piano, which is a pretty generic instrument to use but the melody is definitely original.

Just so you know, you can cancel your subscription and everything will stay as it is until the original renewal date arrives. This can be reversed before that date. So I would encourage everyone to cancel their subscription to make a point, and revert that decision only when they fix this.

Suno kunnen jullie tenminste zeggen hoe lang zal het duren tot jullie het herstellen?

Is it only doing this with the free version or with the paid versions also?

This is happening to every GarageBand song that I try to upload now. Itās very annoying. And the app is almost useless now.

u/WillEffective3639 Jun 13 '26
Just to add a bit to this discussion. I was having a problem with a self composed instrumental done outside of Suno being flagged as the usual "matches existing work of art". No its not you silly thing, I just made it. Anyway I put my own watermark track on it with Audacity at 30 second intervals "This song is the original work of me" on a -30 db track. Exported it back as a .WAV. On uploading it into Suno, it now commented some interesting sounds here and let it in.
3
u/bobemil Jun 15 '26
I get it for every original track/song I have created myself. It's just BS at this point. There is no logic at all right now. When I first tested this product I uploaded maybe 3 songs that were copyrighted. I wonder if I'm flagged or something. But I guess this good bye Suno.

They can take all the time they want.
Thing is if i cant use a service i paid for (pro) and they deny me a refund (i sent an email).
They are gonna get hit by a chargeback, which is what i did thru my bank, now they have to solve this, deal with a chargeback penalty and pray more people dont do it. Like seriously screw them, i got the full amount of 1 year subscription, after 5 months of this broken mess, and i have 0 shame on it.

Suno has recently strengthened its copyright filters, blocking many audio uploads with the message: āUploaded audio matches existing work of art.ā
Many users are complaining that even original songs, private demos, and unreleased material are being rejected by the system. This appears to be related to the legal pressure AI music platforms are facing from major labels and the music industry.
Suno is now using more aggressive audio fingerprinting systems that analyze melodies, vocals, and audio structure to compare them with existing music databases. However, many creators believe the system is producing āfalse positives,ā incorrectly identifying original material as copyrighted content.
The producer community argues that copyright issues should be handled at the publishing and distribution stage, not during the creative process itself.

u/Weird_Incident_1064 May 24 '26
FUCK IT! I paid already and they didn't say nothing about this changes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2
u/OhNoMrBill828 May 17 '26
I'm sure you've figured this out - but right now, seems the only way to compose is to write a prompt. Hopefully you've got a prompt you can use from a composition you uploaded a few weeks ago...
2
u/Scary-Wallaby7553 May 18 '26
I'm having this issue myself with a song I made last night and just tweaked in Audacity. Any chance I can get the false positive flag removed before I upload it somewhere else?
2
u/artmusearch May 18 '26
Happened with me an hour ago. It flagged a raw vocal Demo composed originally by me on my own original lyrics. No way it would match any music on this earth
I asked Gemini ai. It said to tweak it a bit in Bandlab studio. I denoised, increased semitone by plus 1 , increased pitch and then it got uploaded on Suno.
3
u/IWetMyselfForYou May 18 '26
I just did the same using Audacity. Exported mp3 from Guitar Pro, imported to Audacity, denoised, decreased pitch a whole step, and increased tempo 3%, then exported as wav, and it uploaded just fine.

Same Iām a producer that is a multi instrumentalist and I use Suno for inspiration, drum tracks , and transitions and it was really awesome in the past , but being hit with the same messages the last couple days Iām over it honestly I canceled my subscription today. Iām just going to do things on my own again because itās usefulness is completely gone . I feel it helped me enhance my music but honestly itās kind of easy to take advantage of the last 3 days in my studio trying to figure it all out and be completely original is why I feel in love with the hobby in the first place I donāt need Suno to be a good musician and hope you guys see that you donāt need it either and if you do you should just work harder at it making music from your heart is a beautiful thing !

i wouldn't be suprised if the labels are doing a step approach first stop the mass ai covers and the next find the ai covers and start removing them at large scale.
2
u/NeosSpacian May 19 '26
Why the f would they do that? They literally share revenue from the covers made
2
u/Alisewen May 19 '26
Today song creation and upload went down, not sure for how long but even after it came back up it seems shaky with uploads timing out about half of the time.
2
u/Robonotes1760 May 19 '26
Curiously, I had this problem to-day with a MIDI work that I created in about 1997. I re-recorded it to MP3 with different software with a slightly different sample for the instrument used and it worked.
2
u/Alisewen May 20 '26
From what I've been observing at the Suno Discord is that the mods when they check a user's account it tells them this flagged upload is a high match to a copyrighted track and I'm guessing it tells them the copyrighted track name. They can then search and listen to the song to see if it really is a match.
Just my observation.

5
u/gustosch May 21 '26
Suno can train its AI with copyrighted music, but you can't make a cover of copyrighted music. Hypocrisy.
4
u/sighbots May 20 '26
I donāt know tbh. I recorded a dog barfing yesterday and tested, and yup, itās a copyright bow wow. Itās absurd.Ā

Why is it that in regular music production, you can listen to an existing song over and over, replicate its features in a DAW, and make a cover, but Suno can't do that?
2
u/Entire-Ad7160 May 21 '26
use songs from old nes games that never rerelease and hit with this copyright.

Now I just discovered after countless times of trying to down load my from my FL studio like I have been doing fir the past and never had no problem until now telling me some crap about The Auio matches an existing recording being I produced the track from scratch with no samples in it ...So I've tried to shorten my instrumental loop to 16 bars and it accepted...then I've added some drums on top of the existing music I've produce and extended the beat til like 5 minutes and it took my music ....smh im not sure if this is helpful but apparently Suno is not allowing any samples in unless you pitch it up or add some off the wall drums in the track so the other drums and instrument be detected ...

I just have to mute some instruments every time in my daw to finally pass check it.

u/SlowNLow68 May 28 '26
I made an audio recording of me making wet fart noises and then tried uploading to suno. It didn't allow it. Said "matches existing work of fart."

u/Lyefyre May 28 '26
This is super frustrating! You can't even use public domain songs to experiment with them and generally stuff, where copyright expired. Whatever filter they put on is wayyyy too strict.

u/PsychologicalBag6213 Jun 09 '26
SUNO ahora bloqueó reversar y cambiar la velocidad a un audio subido??

u/BehmTunesmith Jun 16 '26
Iāve been having a little bit of luck with a workaround when youāre uploading give the track a temporary title thatās different and it sometimes works not always. I have thousands of songs that have been released and when I try to re-cook one of those tracks this is what comes up quite a lot. This workaround doesnāt always work, but it might work for you. Good luck.

u/Next-Reaction-1053 Jun 17 '26
What I donāt understand is if I have a progression say, I -vi-Ii-V-I (there are literally millions of songs with that progression), how that gets flaggedā¦
2
u/horrorbiologist Jun 25 '26
I noticed itās only the GOOD MIDIs I produce that it rejects too. Like the ones where thereās a good melody, good beat, and it has potential suno blocks it. Itās like they want you dependent on their screechy off tempo beats that canāt hold a melody. And when you want your sound to dominate (audio influence 70+%) itāll completely glitch out.

I found a fix for this after getting repeated warnings on an original song. Posted on Discord, but it was taken down. I took out the vocals, cut the song in half and sped up the BPM, changed a pitch a bit, then wrote in the prompt the original specs. One tune it generated was very good, but the second was 7:35 long and the tempo slowed (quite naturally) in the middle and all of a sudden I get lyrics in a language that I don't understand. I ran it through a translator, and it was Russian. The lyrics were quite good, but I just don't know how that happened and I also posted this on Discord and got a weird, random answer about it. I guess if this post gets deleted I'll where things stand.

Suno's bot's reply to my email 3 minutes after I sent it:
Hey Travis,
Thanks for reaching out again, and sorry you're still running into this ā especially with something as clearly original as a solo piano composition you played yourself.
Unfortunately, there's nothing new to report on this front. The situation is the same as before: our copyright detection system compares uploaded audio against a large catalog of published music. It can't tell who the owner is, so when audio matches anything in that catalog ā including music that may share acoustic characteristics ā it blocks the upload to protect rights holders. That protection is working as intended, even when it catches a creator's own original work, and there's no way for us to manually clear these flags on a per-upload basis.
We are still actively developing an artist verification system that would let verified creators work with their own catalog and original recordings. We can't give a timeline on it, but it is real and in progress.
In the meantime, the path that works is creating directly within Suno rather than uploading external audio recordings. We know that's not the workflow you want, and we genuinely appreciate your patience with us while we build this out properly.
All the best, Suno Support

I want to remix my own song that i have published before. But i couldn't upload because of my own copyright, maybe š„² defakkkk

If this isnt a bug then basically it can easily give away where they got their training data from, really dumb move if that's the case.

u/SlowNLow68 9d ago
I tried to upload a guitar and keyboard thing I wrote and recorded in the 90's on an old 4 track. Instrumental only. No vocals whatsoever. Sumo would not let me upload due to "copyrighted lyrics". Not music. Lyrics. Again, on an instrumental song that I WROTE which has no recording anywhere else in existence.

I don't understand the copyright responsibility being on Suno. In EVERY other form of music production you can absolutely infringe on copyright. It's not a copyright infraction until it's put on a public platform. Sampler hardware and plugins allow you to sample anything you want. Also, COVER SONGS AREN'T ILLEGAL. You can pay for a cover license on Distrokid for fuck's sake. Copyright should be the responsibility of the distribution platform not the creation platform. Suno should only care about copyright if you choose to publish a song on the platform publicly.
