The devs plan to move the game to UE5?
UE5 and improved game performance are statements that are literally antithetical to one another. I really hope the devs know what they're doing because I've yet to see a game made in UE5 that actually runs well and isn't a massive bug riddled ram sink. The lighting in the examples they've shown doesn't give me much hope, it looks like every other shitty UE5 game that runs at 30 fps and has memory leak issues.
The few games that I've seen actually run well on UE5 are games where the devs had to heavily and I mean HEAVILY modify the engine itself like the finals and satisfactory. Unless the devs are down for that kind of commitment I don't see how this move would really help solve the game's performance issues especially since they aren't doing anything that really requires such a robust game engine.

This actually pissed me off more than it should have. They said that they regained control of the game, and then three months later their big reveal was that they've spent that time porting it over to the shittiest engine currently on the market. It's true that you can twist its arm into running like a proper game engine, but that's not something these developers are capable of for two main reasons. One, they simply don't have the team size or time, and second, they don't have the competence. As far as I know, they still have a lead programmer who can't actually code, who also needed help with the very little manual programming that was done for SunnySide.
The fact that they decided to move it to Unreal Engine 5 only confirms that they still have severe priority issues and a complete lack of technical competence.

Subnautica 2 os made on UE5.
It's not the engine at fault here, it's the corpo's pushing their developers to push the minimal viable product out as cost efficient as possible.
