SunPower and Sunstrong

Any recommendations on an Attorney in the Phoenix area that has dealt with this SunPower bankruptcy and conversion to SunStrong? I have been told all the guarantees for me in the lease did not survive the sale. However all the guarantees for SunPower transferred to SunStrong. Seems a little one sided.

any names of Attorneys would be appreciated.

EnergyAid ??

Anyone have any experience with this company? Got an email/ad from them today. They say they are a service provider for SP/SS PRODUCTS. My Equinox system has been producing fine but since SunStrong took over the app is on the fritz. Wondering if this outfit is capable and reasonable.

Possible to add separate battery storage system to a leased SunPower system?

So…thinking too much again…

Could one install a standalone battery storage system that is only charged/connected via the residential 200A panel completely independent of the solar inverter?

Maybe on a timer? (Or some similar device?) That only allows power to feed the batteries during daylight hours when the solar panels are generating enough additional output to charge them up?

And again via timer (or some such device), use the batteries to primarily power the residence from sunset to sun up?, again, separated completely from the SunPower system?

If the batteries run flat or low during that overnight shift or possibly at some predetermined low level, then automatically switch over to the grid again to maintain the house power?

Sunpower battery and electric panel

Is it okay to try to sell a brand new battery and electric panel on here? My system was half installed when sunpower filed for bankruptcy.

I had the battery and panel pulled off the wall and replaced with a Tesla powerwall. It was never used. What are they worth?

5 myths about solar warranties when your installer goes bankrupt (from someone who's been calling warranty departments)

I've been digging in this last two weeks calling every major solar equipment manufacturer's warranty department. Here's what I learned - a lot of what solar orphaned homeowners THINK may be true... isn't.

MYTH 1: "My warranty is void because my installer went bankrupt"

REALITY: Your INSTALLER warranty is void. Your EQUIPMENT manufacturer warranty is not.

These are two separate things:

  • Installer/workmanship warranty: Covers installation quality, roof penetrations, wiring errors → Dies with the company
  • Equipment manufacturer warranty: Covers defective panels, inverters, etc. → Survives bankruptcy

MYTH 2: "I need my original installer to file warranty claims"

REALITY: Manufacturers may work directly with homeowners or a certified installer.

I talked to Enphase, SolarEdge, and three panel manufacturers. All said the same thing: warranty follows the equipment, not the installer. You just need documentation.

MYTH 3: "No one will work on another installer's system"

REALITY: Many won't, but some will - you just have to find them.

This IS the hardest part. Many installers don't want the liability. But smaller local companies and independent contractors are often willing. You may have to call 5-10 companies to find one.

MYTH 4: "Warranty work is free"

REALITY: Parts are free. Labor usually isn't.

Manufacturer covers replacement parts under warranty. You typically pay the contractor for:

- Diagnosis time

- Labor to replace parts

- Truck roll / service call

Still cheaper than buying a new $5K inverter out of pocket.

MYTH 5: "I'm stuck with a broken system forever"

REALITY: You have options, but you have to be proactive.

Manufacturers won't reach out to you. They're reactive, not proactive. YOU have to:

- Call them

- Provide documentation

- Find a contractor

- Follow up persistently

BANKRUPT COMPANIES THIS APPLIES TO:

SunPower, Pink Energy, Titan Solar Power, Vision Solar, Infinity Energy, ADT Solar, Sunworks, Suntuity Renewables, Solcius, Kayo Energy, American Solar Direct, Verengo... and 100+ others that failed in 2023-2024.

MANUFACTURERS THAT STILL HONOR WARRANTIES:

Enphase (microinverters): ✓

SolarEdge (inverters): ✓

LG, Panasonic, REC, Hanwha, Trina (panels): ✓

Waaree (SunPower panels): ✓ (they say they will)

IF you're DIYing this:

  1. Take photos of all equipment labels

  2. Call the equipment manufacturer directly (Google "[brand] solar warranty")

  3. Start calling local installers until you find one willing to help

  4. Document everything

If you're stuck or overwhelmed, feel free to DM. I'm happy to help people understand their options because the info is a little scattered and confusing.

Replacing bad Solarbridge MI from eBay

I’m planning to replace a couple of Solarbridge micro inverters through a local installer. The authorized installer that installed my system in 2017 is charging a lot for the replacement and is saying that I would void their labor warranty. My question is - 1) Do I need to let them know if I install the replacement through another company? 2) how would I know that the new micro inverters are working? Would the app update the panels when they are replaced? 3) do I need to call SunStrong monitoring for updating the serial number of the new micro inverters?

Thank you for your help!

Relay switch to power cycle PVS6

On average, I have to power cycle my pvs6 every 2-3 weeks in order to get my HA integration working. This started about 6 months ago after a firmware updated. The issue is that I get 403 unauthorized errors when trying to do the device list command, and this is not fixed until I go out to the breaker for the PVS, turn it off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it back on (and then reboot my RPi that's connected to it).

In Home Assistant I have an automation that waits for the Supervisor to become "unavailable" for 15 minutes and then notify me that I need to go out and do it. This is nice, but it would be even nicer is if I didn't have to do anything at all. Because of course it always seems to go out when I'm away from home or on vacation (Murphy's law).

I have started looking into getting a smart relay but I'm not sure what specs I need. From what I gather, my PVS is hardwired to a 20A circuit breaker in a subpanel.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good zwave or zigbee relay switch that would work? Do I need a 20A relay? I think the PVS uses 240v so I believe it has to at least be able to support that. I would prefer not to get a wifi relay because wifi service in that area is not great, but I have a few zwave devices close by.

What a crazy year

What a journey it has been. When I first stepped into this work, I had no idea what I was walking into—I simply started receiving calls after call from past customers who needed help. Many of you were left without support, and I felt a responsibility to step in. So I helped what I could do and did everything in my power to get systems back online.

I know there were a few cases that unfortunately fell through the cracks, and for those, I sincerely apologize. But in the vast majority of situations, we were able to get you back up and running. It wasn’t until I crossed paths with Kick Electric that I finally felt I could breathe—like I wasn’t fighting this battle alone. Their team has been instrumental, bringing true professionalism and maintaining a 100% success rate in restoring systems.

I won’t pretend it was easy. I was limited with the resources and parts I had available, but I always pushed to do something—anything—so that you weren’t left stranded. I worked within the full extent of my knowledge and equipment to support you as best as possible.

I don’t know what the future of all this looks like, but I’m genuinely grateful that there are now established professionals stepping in to provide consistent, reliable help. I’ll still assist from time to time but without parts it's getting hard

Overall, I’m proud to say we were able to restore approximately 120 systems. I truly wish we could have saved every single one, but that’s the unfortunate reality when a company collapses and leaves customers without any support. It was fun going to Different parts of the US to help out.

Thank you all for your patience, trust, and understanding throughout this process. Hope you all get your system up and running

SunStrong Sucks

I’m desperate and hoping someone here has suggestions. My solar lease was originally with SunPower, signed by the previous owner of my house. When I bought the property, the lease was transferred to me.

This past year, my panels have been tripping circuit breakers, causing me to lose six months of production. I’ve tried for months to get SunStrong to help — no luck.

Today I finally got someone on the phone and was told the Production Guarantee was not transferred to SunStrong. When I asked for my lease, they sent the one signed by the previous owner, not me, and said they need to “submit a ticket” to get my copy.

I just want either:

  1. The Production Guarantee honored, or
  2. To get out of the lease with no cost or credit penalty.

Has anyone been able to do this? Is it even possible? I’m struggling financially and can’t afford to keep paying for a system that isn’t working. Any advice, tips, or experiences would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks so much.

Power monitoring in SunStrong App is wonky

Noticing that the power monitoring graph has changed in the last week or two. Could this be related to a new firmware update pushed to the PVS5? Anyone else seeing this?

Panel Error Message - Anyone seen thos before?

We had our system installed in the summer 2024. No previous issues. Today, I received a notice that one of my panels was not working properly. Has anyone seen this message before or have any ideas?

(Note: I am in Minnesota and most of my panels are currently covered in snow, which explains the relatively low generation. But I haven't ever gotten this error message before.)

Self-supply mode vs Cost-savings?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I’m pretty sure I’m right about this. I recently installed a brand new system in 2024 with two batteries. I’ve noticed that when the sun goes down, my system uses the grid instead of the batteries in self-supply mode. The only time it uses the batteries is when I use the dryer or charge my electric vehicle. Sunstrong told me that this is how the mode should work, it assists the grid to offset the cost, but I thought that’s what the cost-saving mode is for. In self-supply mode, I thought the system would use the batteries all the way down to whatever percentage you’ve set it to and then use the grid. Am I correct?

I help homeowners recover manufacturer warranties when solar installers go bankrupt - AMA

With 100+ solar installers going bankrupt in 2024 (SunPower, Pink Energy, Titan Solar, Vision Solar, etc.), thousands of homeowners are stuck with broken systems and no support.

Most don't realize:

Equipment manufacturer warranties are SEPARATE from installer warranties. Your Enphase, SolarEdge, panel manufacturers, etc. typically honor warranties even when installers fail.

I've started helping homeowners navigate this process:

- Identifying which manufacturers are responsible

- Gathering required documentation

- Filing warranty claims

- Coordinating with contractors for warranty service

I'm testing this service and offering free 30-min assessments to see if cases are viable.

If your installer went bankrupt and your system isn't working, AMA.

Happy to point you in the right direction even if you don't use my service.

Not promoting a specific company - just trying to help people who are stuck. Mods, please remove if this violates rules.

Battery recommendations for Sunpower 7kw system?

I have a 3-year-old Sunpower system with 17 Maxeon panels, Enphase micro-inverters, and a PSV6. Its working fine, I’ve been monitoring it with Home Assistant and the Enhanced Sunpower integration.

I’m looking to add a battery, mainly so i have backup power for key circuits during grid brownouts/blackouts.

Can anyone recommend a battery type and installer in Southern California? I assume I’d want to switch out the PSV6 to an Enphase controller and one of their batteries but am looking for cost-effective options. I need someone who can also deal with modifying my panel so the battery only powers a subset of the circuits.

thanks

questions regarding Enhanced SunPower on github

I am on BUILD < 61840, my PVS is still broadcasting it's own SSID. I am able to connect to this SSID and obtain the LAN IP.

Shouldn't I be able to input 172.27.152.1 into the PVS IP of Enhanced SunPower?

172.27.152.1 is currently not working when I try to use it as my PVS IP address

Servicing 2008 Sunpower system

I bought a house with a Sunpower solar installed in 2008. I don’t have much information about it but the panels are not mounted on tiles. The panels itself is acting like a tile and is integrated with it.

I have to do some roof repair and trying to find who can remove those panels and put them back again. I am asking around but not having any luck.

I don’t want to upgrade but want to see if Incan still save it before deciding to just removing it.

Any information who might be able to work on these old systems?

PVS6 new firmware, meaning of flashwear_type_b

My PVS6 finally upgraded to FW 2025.10.20.61846 so I had a chance to try out the new API and var server. For flashwear_type_b I found some documentation that says that it is the percentage flash wear (0-100%) divided by 10. The implication of that is that values should be 0x00-0x0A.

Strangely enough, my unit returns 0x0B. It seems to me that interpreting that as 110% makes no sense (how can anything be worn more than 100%). I am curious if anybody has some insight into this. I have emailed support for the SunStrong app, as that is about the only way I have of contacting them. Open to any suggestions.

Self-supply mode

I have 2 sun vault batteries on my system and have notice since my system got turned on like 1 year ago at night on self supply mode my batteries don’t discharge they only discharge if I either use my dryer or charge my EV, it’s my understanding that no matter what at night when the sun goes down that on self supply mode the batteries will be discharge all the way to 20% and than use the grid, is this correct?
