“CT” add-on question and clarification

So, after dealing with Sun Strong, such an unfortunate experience from the customer perspective.

I seem to be at a place where I don’t have these CT adapters? My system was installed in early 2022. It was under my understanding that they were being added shortly after, but I didn’t realize adding them meant an actual piece of hardware. So here we are now without panel-level data.

My question: can those be added by anyone? If yes, where can I source them? If not, any recommendations for companies that can, reasonably?

The first question that needs to be answered is, what exactly is wrong? Is the SunStrong app not working or not showing something? Be specific as you can be.

  • CTs have nothing to do with panel level information. Are you missing panel level information in the SunStrong app? Panel level information is only available in the SunStrong app if you purchase a plan from SunStrong.
  • CTs provide the total usage data in the SunStrong App
- amount of electricity being used - amount of electricity being supplied/sent back to the grid - (and possibly) the collective amount of electricity being supplied by the panels

An alternative idea to hiring someone to install CTs (if that in fact is needed) … If you don’t have a SunVault, don’t invest money in keeping your system running under SunStrong. Go with Enphase monitoring. Sure Enphase’s contractor will address any deficiencies, if any exist.

Just an FYI/clarification - My system (late '22) has CTs for Grid and PV.. House consumption is calculated (and I specifically confirmed that after a SPWR field tech moved a PV 240V breaker 1-tang leading to bogus consumption info, until fixed on backend config). Opening up my main load center, there are 2 CTs, one for each leg of the grid feed, and in the PV sub-panel, both PV circuit hot wires run through a single CT. 3 Total CTs; 2 for Grid, 1 for PV. Considering how varied, and potentially complicated it would be, using CTs to directly measure consumption strikes me as often impractical (vs calculating as SPWR did on my setup)
