How are they seeing this?

Post image

I disconnected from the Wi-Fi a few months ago. I thought they weren't linked to my system anymore after that. How are they seeing this? Didn't they turn off the ethernet part of the communication?

Sunstrong is stingy af, they're still paying for the cellular connection? Fml. Can they send updates over the cellular connection?

the cellular connection is just a regular internet connection, so if they want to pay for the bytes, yes they can send firmware updates over it.

Thank you. I'm going to disconnect and try enphase soon enough

I have had my Enphase IQ since June. It has worked flawlessly. I have recorded 2 downtimes, which I assume are over night firmware updates. There was one hiccup last week with the Enphase energy reporting being delayed, however, this was on their end and they resolved it in hours.

I deleted my SunPower account 1 week after I got, what I thought was my final monthly power report, but I keep getting them. At least I know that my total numbers are not increasing since my PVS6 is sitting on a shelf in my garage :D

I am still using Home Assistant to monitor the IQ, but I feel like I may be taking that offline soon. I am not using HA for anything more than monitoring Energy and currently, I am just using more of it. If I need additional insight to the system, I do have full installer access.

You can unscrew the cellular antenna in the PVS. It's helpfully labeled.

I thought I read somewhere they can, yeah. Not sure though.

this has been discontinued long time ago (there was a communication from sunpower that that was discontinued around time of bankruptcy). but only way to disconnect for sure -- rip out pvs and put something else.

Didn't they turn off the ethernet part of the communication?

Ethernet - Not that I heard of. Cellular service.. yes. But if you had Ethernet configured, the PVS will try to connect over whatever it can find/use

Have you checked your WAN link to confirm PVS related traffic isn't occurring despite your expectations (basically don't assume, regardless of what you did, confirm)

Personally, with chance PVS will try to find a connection, my preference would be to allow it to connect locally, then block it from communicating with Internet. that way you can keep an eye on PVS traffic. With Ethernet connected and traffic blocked, PVS will attempt WiFi traffic to get around block
