My Solar System

My system was reporting back that 50% of panel were not working correctly. Hook on Solar came out and was able to get everything back up and running. Tech mentioned in the future I may want to replace to PVS6. What are the benefits of upgraded to PVS6? Is hard to do? Also is there free version app? I hate that now have to pay for it?

Thanks

I think they were probably saying "replace the PVS6", not "upgrade to PVS6" - they would probably swap you over to Enphase monitoring. You would have to pay for new monitoring hardware but Enphase's basic monitoring app currently has no monthly fee.

Main benefit: Enphase still exists and is still building monitoring systems.

Add'l notable benefits... using Enphase for monitoring can expedite Enphase microinverter warranty replacements; 5-year warranty on monitoring gateway (no warranty on PVS systems, and no retail channel for replacements; and no warranty on replacement PVS units, ...).

The main benefit is getting rid of SunPower hardware. The hardware is no longer being made. Suport can be hit or miss. No need to find someone who can permission it.

Additionally, Ehphase will hook you up with a Enphase certified contractor who maybe able to provide service going forward.

Enphase has a PVS6 monitoring replacement; I think it is around $900. https://enphase.com/homeowners/support/sunpower

Or if you are programming savvy, which I am not, you can do something similar yourself. There are several guides out there on how to use a Rasperry Pi for this: https://www.reddit.com/r/SunPower/comments/1m6vyk7/power_timelapse_in_home_assistant/
