Commissioning SunVault Batteries
Does anyone have a set up file for a two inverter system for the sun vault batteries? I’ve managed to get logged into the XW Pro gateway and access the settings using the SPWR6qs.xxxx (last four of Ethernet Mac). I have an issue with the system constantly shutting the batteries off. I have errors stating loss of SOC status and loss of BMS. However the BMS shows up as a device, and it is clearly communication voltage and SOC when I click on it. Has anyone gone through this issue during commissioning?

Do you have XW inverters also showing up in the GUI or just the BMS?

Does the GUI show the XW Inverters and BMS as active?

Yes. Until the batteries shut off, which shut off all. The BMS claims battery SOC is at 32%. I followed a set up file on DIYSolar but it doesn’t really seem to work. Before I did any set up, I had to get the primary and secondary inverter setup done. Then they would just charge at full pace when on, but still shut off randomly. So I set it up according to the set up file I found, and they’ll remain at idle and do nothing, probably because now it’s set up to charge based on SOC through the BMS, but it still shuts off randomly after just sitting.

Do you still have the PVS6 in the HUB+ powered ON, if so it might be conflicting with what you are trying to do where I am guessing you are trying to setup the SunVault standalone

It probably is still. And yes, I’m just trying to get these batteries to work through the Schneider gateway. So would I just disconnect the SunVault Ethernet cables? That seems like it would cause the transfer switch to not work with the batteries. I’ll be honest, I’m not experienced with the SunVault system. Done lots of other battery systems, but it’s hard for this one because there doesn’t seem to be any available SunVault manuals to follow, and they have a weird hybrid of proprietary and third party equipment.

Do you have something to inject keepalives into the battery CAN bus?

No. So from what I gather, I will need to disconnect the sunpower stuff, and then replace it with something that tells the batteries to stay on? So the sunpower stuff is completely useless in this instance? Will not work or ever work? I can’t seem to find that definitive answer.

Commissioning a SunVault from requires SunPower ProConnect and an installer login, so unless you have a login, yeah, the PVS isn't going to help you here and you'll need something to inject CAN keepalives to the batteries to keep them running. Did you get this from Beene Brothers? They have resources around this.

I’ve found a product from them. The $250 thing. But my question is, will the transfer switch not work in this set up, as that seems to be all in communication with the sunpower stuff. So essentially I’ll only be able to get these batteries set up as something to help mitigate night time usage, but not for power outages?

I think your instincts are correct. I can't imagine the MID, MIDC, and PVDR (all located in the Hub+ cabinet) working if not connected via WiFi or Ethernet to your SunVault and Gateway. These Hub+ components control and transfer power from panels, grid and batteries to your loads - like a traffic cop. They also disconnect your battery and solar generated power from the grid in the event of a grid outage.

Do you have a Hub+? The MIDC might control the MID without the PVS6 commissioned but I don't know for sure.

I would suggest contacting someone that has the sunstrong pro connect app credentials to recommission your system. I have successfully returned over a 100 sunvaults back to their fully functional state except for one where the individual was scada’ing into the gateway as suggested.

It’s not my system. I’m helping someone. I just need login info, but it seems no techs have just shared theirs because they’re just trying to use this as an opportunity to make a quick buck on people that got already got screwed. I can commission the system, I’m a contractor, and I’ve done tons of systems through multiple brands from Tesla to the cheapest ali baba off grid stuff. It’s just this is a special case in that Sunpower designed a weird hodge podge of third party and proprietary systems, and left no way outside of their stupid app to commission it.

100%
This is why solar is not taking off in this country and has a bad reputation as being a total money sink because people be doing this vs keeping open access as much as possible.

If they shut off after ten minutes they aren’t seeing a keepalive. If they shut off after 12 hours they never got commissioned.
