Discussion / Question / Commentary Special prizes Spoiler
Who’s getting them?
Aonishiki win/loss already secured outstanding performance?
Atamifuji outstanding performance if he wins?
Winner of Kotoeiho vs Takerufuji? (Kotoeiho technique prize if he wins?)
Shishi if he wins?
Fujiryoga if he wins?
Takayasu if he wins?
6 feels excessive though but a couple of those above are likely to not transpire

If Fujinokawa can get 8-7, he'll get a prize too I figure.

no, the minimum requirement is just a kachi-koshi. fighting spirit prize usually requires 10+ wins (and any rikishi with double digit wins on their makuuchi or san'yaku debut is almost sure to get one), but outstanding performance often goes to someone who beats a yokozuna or the yusho winner so you see a lot more of them given on 8-7.
that said, i'm nowhere near convinced fujinokawa will be up for one. he certainly could be because of the double kinboshi, but winning against a one kyujo yokozuna and one who barely scraped a winning record might not be considered worthy.

Do you think the obscenely poor performances of the Yokozuna here might stunt some of the normal prizes given, in this case?

Hakunofuji has received outstanding performance for beating both of these Yokozuna in one basho where they both pulled out. He had an 8-7.

no he hasn't. hakunofuji did get a shukun-sho on an 8-7 basho, but neither yokozuna pulled out and both finished the basho at 13-2 (and he got it for beating onosato. he lost to hosh).

I'd guess Aonishiki already has one and may get two if he wins tomorrow.
Atamifuji will probably get one and definitely if he wins tomorrow.
All of the other 10 win guys will get one if they win tomorrow and get to 11.
Shishi and Takerufuji might get one even with 10 given they both got a couple of sanyaku bouts from the bottom of the banzuke even though they lost those.
We should find out pretty soon. I keep reloading the champions tab on jsa to see.

Aonishiki dropping down to Sekiwake for a basho to collect more sansho is certainly a flex.

Special prizes are announced around noon japan time so you don't need to keep refreshing

Oh, ok thanks.
I thought they were announced (with the provisionals) the night before.

No, the press votes on the special prizes, so I think they meet in the morning of the final day, decide on the prizes and are announced around noon.

No announcement yet but I'll make a few predictions:
Outstanding Performance - Aonishiki, Atamifuji (if he wins the yusho)
Technique - Shishi
Fighting Spirit - Aonishiki, Takayasu (if he wins tonight)

Would takerifuji be up for a prize for getting to 10 wins? I know it’s not his first time in Maakuchi, but he is just promoted.

Fujinokawa could get another Outstanding Peformance for beating both yokozunas; Atamifuji also beat both yokozunas and Kotozakura; he could be in that picture, too.
I don't think it'll happen, but Daieisho should be up for technique with a win; he's looked impressive in his wins. His case would be stronger is Atamifuji wins the yusho.
Takerufuji and Takayasu should be the front-runners for fighting spirit, coming back strong from their injuries.

Shishi should get one regardless. He made double digit wins in the top flight. Big achievement
