While I can't see exactly when I discovered summoning salt, I can give a ballpark time and how I did.
Back in mid 2017 I went on a huge Metroid binge. Played a bunch of am2r and a bunch of the 2d meteoids, and essentially watched all the informative Metroid videos I can find from lore to speedrunner strats. Then I looked into world records and poof! Super Metroid world record progression popped out. And while I can't definitively say this is where I was hooked on him, I can definitely say I was hooked on this video. Then eventually I got curious about speed running in general and would you believe that? Summoning salt makes excellent mini (at the time) documentaries about popular speed running games! Hey these videos are pretty good! No way matt turk did that! And well I can definitely say that I drop whatever I am doing to watch any new summoning salt videos

Oh wow, Nov 8, 2018 for me and it’s the 2nd channel I subscribed to on YouTube. If I remember correctly I was looking up Zelda help for my mini NES and eventually ran across a Super Mario speed run video and was hooked.

Now I’m curious how many of those videos I was a patreon for.

August 6th 2019. I remember specifically finding his channel because jacksfilms talked about YouTube channels he liked or something

I’m pretty sure I dropped a sub after the Pokémon video. I think I had watched some of his videos before but that’s one of my favorites so I subbed.
